I am tracing the Blighton line and have been working on making a connection between the Virginia Blightons and our line that started in Vermont. I believe there is a connection. I do not have any information on you John H. Blayton but he is probably in the same family that I am researching. I am interested in any information you can help me with. Thanks.....

Hello!

I am a descendant of John H. Blayton! Actually I am in search of the Blayton line as well in respects to my great grandfather. A jolly pleasure to meet you! The foremost person to contact regarding John H. Blayton would be LaVonne Allen at LAllen3081@aol.com. She is the foremost person that has studied that family line. She is a cousin of mine. We've had cursory discussions regarding the Blaytons. Another major asset for you would also be the Blayton Family line. However I would have to research the Author of that genealogical line.

John H. Blayton lived in New Kent County. Part of the homestead is now called Lanexa, Virginia. In years gone by, the land ownership of John H. Blayton was West Point, Virginia. John Blayton was also a confederate soldier in the civil war. A Private of the 3rd Calvary in the Virginia Militia. He also had one eye. Oddly, I saw a picture of John Blayton about 20 years ago. He had a glass eye and was called "one-eye Jack", a common nickname as the locals named you by your infirmities in that community. :)

It is also my understanding that the Patriarch of this family goes back to Thomas Blayton, Attorney at law to the first Governor appointed to Virginia, Sir Wm. Berkeley. This may be of interest to you since your family is located in Vermont. Governor Berkeley was originally commissioned in Canada by King Charles(?) After a brief period in England, he then was appointed to the Virginia Colony while his brother was appointed to New Jersey:

also see this website:

Thomas Blayton as an attorney was instrumental in quite of few things. But he's best known for his support and writing insurrection speeches of Nathaniel Bacon of the infamous, Bacon's Rebellion: A scourge to Sir Wm. Berkeley. 23 out of 37 persons were killed by Berkeley's orders for that event. Thomas Blayton was spared, though. It is said that Thomas Blayton is the bastard son of William Berkeley and thus was spared his life. Bacon was also a close cousin to Berkeley as well. If you have anymore information to connect to this, I'd gladly receive it!!!

If you'd like anymore information, please do contact me at the above email address. Have a good day!!!

No, this John H. Blayton that we are talking about never lived at 30 Queens Rd. He was born about 1828 in Charles City County, Virginia, and lived in Lanexa, New Kent County until his death. The only time that he lived outside of New Kent County was during his service in the Confederacy.

Are you a descendant of John H. Blayton?

LaVonne
