About 40 years ago my mother had a woman (SEMPLE/DAVIDSON) who worked at William & Mary send her a family history. It has been lost to us. From what my mother remembers the family were founding members of St. Peters Parish and the name was SWINNEY. I can go back to Vaiden Sweeney B.1857 in Virginia (from 1880 Census.) The story goes that after the war he was sent to General Lee for advice on his future. Lee told him to forget the war and the hatred and leave the south to make a new life for himself. He left and ended up in New York. I am trying to make the connection between him and St. Peters???
