Do you have any information regarding Willliam's sister, Susannah. She went by Susan who married Simon Mathew. She is buried in Hillsboro, VA. Simon was a son of Levi Mathew and Levi's father Simon Mathew, Jr. from Bucks, PA. I am a descendant of Simon Mathew, Jr's brother Benjamin who settled in Fauquier County, VA along with his brother Edward around 1775. Simon Mathew died before the 1850 Loudoun County, VA census as Susan was living in William's household along with some of her children. I have a record of Susan and Simon Mathews marriage in Loudoun County, VA. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Dear Mr. Harrison:

I believe that Geo. W. Harrison was probably my great, great grandmother's (Martha Ann Harrison) brother and that their parents were James Harrison and Eleanor (Ellender) Legg who were married in the District of Columbia on 15 February 1827. I believe that the family broke apart for some reason in the 1840s because Eleanor can be found on both the 1850 census (as Nelly, age 43) and on the 1860 census (as Ellender, age 60?) living in the household of Phebe Gregg.

James Harrison's parents were almost certainly James Harrison (b. ca. 1773) and Cecilia UNK. (b. ca. 1780). This elder James can be found on the 1860 census living in the household of his son-in-law, Thomas Hensey. This family relationship is confirmed by the death record of his wife Cecilia in 1859/60.

If you wish to explore this family further, please contact me by email at ram@dem.com.

Ray Mann

There exists a genforum.genealogy.com Lum Family Genealogy Forum (I'm not a member) that connects "Lum" to "Lom" and "Lombe". See http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/lumm#ixzz15WNHdS5L . I've also done a lot of research on this name. My family is a Jewish family from the shtetl's of E. Europe which immigrated to Chicago starting in the 1880's. However, it was connected to a family of the same name that immigrated here earlier from Baden-Wurttemburg. The name appears as a location name throughout the Germanic world, in Norway, Silesia, and the Low Countries. In addition, there are hundreds of entries for Lome / Lum / Lom in UK records going back centuries--the earliest I've found are in the 12th century. I believe there exists a connection between these names and "Lombard" and "Lambert". In Yiddish, "Lom" is a Low German form of "Lamm", meaning "lamb". "Lamb" is not Indo-European in origin--it only exists in Germanic languages but not in any other branch, so like many German words came from some older language family that merged with an Indo-European dialect to form proto-Germanic. The original referents of "Lom" all I think pertained to an Old European pastoral population that spoke such an older language. Somehow, we should integrate our efforts. Evidently, genforum is now part of Ancestry also.

Also no mention in the deed books for that period.

To appear on the 1831 Personal Property Tax lists, Lorenzo had to be at least 16 years old, so he would have been born before 1816.

It appears that Lorenzo married Amanda M.
You posted a message about Nichols a long time ago.... I am researching Lorenzo Down Nichols who hails from Loudoun County Virginia, born 1816 - But I cannot find anything out about his parents. He was residing with a man named Herod Nichols in Loudoun in 1831 I believe, so I am wondering if he was an apprentice to him. No research so far shows any Lorenzo among the entire Nichols clan, but surely, he must have come from somewhere! Can you offer any help?

Greetings! I have been reading these posts about the Fouch family. What are the proof of kinship you have for Isaac Fouch and Sally Violette and their supposed son James. I am finding scant information, and nothing that actually proves a Isaac Fouch/ Sally Violette marriage ,nor that they had a son James. I would love all of this to be proven also, but we have to have the proof even if indirect. This would be my line as well. Teresa Mills

Phillip R. Colston, born about 1832 in Virginia and perhaps Loudoun County, died in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. At times it may appear that he lived in Putnam, Ohio, which was annexed into the city of Zanesville. His wife was Jane. Seeking any further information about these Colstons.

Thanks in advance for any information

The information you have given indicates that your grandmother Bettie’s maiden name was Vincell and you believe her parents were William and Rachel Vincell. She apparently got married and had a son Charles. She and her husband died when Charles was young and Charles was raised by his Vincell grandparents.

Another source leads you to believe that a William James Vincell, son of Lewis Vincell, was your GGGrandfather. Did that source give any information as to where these people lived and what time period?

You still need to supply more information which I think you already know. What was your grandmother Bettie’s married name? Do you know the name of the man (Charles’ father) she married? About when was Charles born? Did the marriage of Bettie and her husband, the birth of their son Charles, and the death of Bettie and her husband all occur in Loudoun County, Virginia?

Please verify that these events occurred in Loudoun County, Virginia (as this is the Loudoun County message board) and give some know dates for the events you have stated, or at least a general time period.

Pat Duncan
GenNutLdn@msn.com

Hello,
It's been a while since you've posted this notice, but if possible, I would be interested in a copy of this letter. My 2x and 3x great grandfathers are both James Fields born in Loudoun. The elder James was born in Loudoun 1830. In doing the math, he would have been only 19 years old in 1849,so he would not have had 102 year old mother, nor had children old enough to live in Ohio. However, I'm wondering if he was somehow related to the James in your letter.
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks!
My family and I have been trying to track Elisha Lockhart (or Lockard), who we believe narried Elizabeth Ellison about 1784 in Adams, Ohio. They had six children between 1785 and 1795. We understand Elisha was born in 1759, and had thought it was in Ohio. If you have information to the contrary, please advise. Also, we are seeking information concerning Thomas Lockhart, whom we believe to have been Elisha's father, who may have emigrated to the colonies, presumably before Elisha's birth. Any info on that would be appreciated as well. My name is Tom Lockhart, and you can reach me at tglaw@earthlink.net.

>So GeorgeAnna's maiden name was Harper and her married name was Harper?<

Correct. I am not sure if they were cousins, as I do not have parents or siblings of Charles Jonathan Harper. I know he d. between 1870-1880: he is in the 1870 Census, Stumptown, Loudoun Co., and his wife, Mary Jane, is a widow in the 1880; she is living with her sons Robert F. & Braden F. in Washington, Carroll Co., IN
I'm glad I found that old picture to put up.
You said "Robert Edwin Lee Harper's mother, GeorgeAnna was the dau. of William H. Harper and Nancy A. Munday" So GeorgeAnna's maiden name was Harper and her married name was Harper? Am I understanding that?
Also, thanks for the info on the name Weedord, I didn't know that.

Don't know if this will help.

From the Loudoun County Personal Property Tax Lists, it appears that Andrew was the son of Robert Ogden.
I'm looking for info for war of 1812 veteran Andrew Ogden. he's buried w/ other Ogden's in Arnold Grove Cemetery in Loudoun County, but i cannot fund much on him or many descendants looking for him. My son's eagle scout project is renovating his and 21 other veterans from rev, 1812 and civil war and we'd like descendents to come. His war of 1812 marker will be dedicated too. you can see more about the project and see the list of everyone who is buried at this cemetery at www.arnoldgrove.weebly.com.
Sorry to reply so late - haven't been active on ancestory.com in a while. If your Lawrence came to America around 1817, then he is not the same Lawrence Shepherd that I am referring to. My Lawrence wasn't born until 1837, POB and parents unknown. He lived for 105 yrs. and died in 1842 in Frankfort, Ross Co. Ohio. Sorry - hope you find what you are looking for.
