Claude Ashton was born May 5, 1930
in The Plains Fauquier County Virginia

(Notes from Claude about growing up in Virginia)

For the record, I was born in Archie's parents house in
The Plains, VA (across the road from the then Public School.)

In 1937 we relocated from The Plains and lived above the Burke Bros Ford and Mercury Dealership where my Father worked as a mechanic... which was on Rt 50 and also had gas pumps in front at 18 cents a gallon. When we lived there the Safeway was the Sanatery (??spelling) originally on the corner across Rt 50 from the Colonial Inn and later moved east a half block and became the Safeway.

About 1939 we moved to a stone house on a street near the Methodist Church about one block from Burke Bros on a side street off of Rt 50.

A short time after 1940 we moved to a house about one mile west of Middleburg.

Claude was a freshman in Aldie High School

Sometime during 1945 we moved to Leesburg and lived on
the main street (Rt 15) one block from Leesburgh High School.
Where I was a sophomore, a junior and graduated in 1947.

During the summer of 1946 I attended a World War II Veterans
Auto Mechanic School and worked/lived at the Manassas Hotel
