Surnames: Eaglin, Hawkins, Hardey, Hardy
Researching David and Julie Eaglin born in Maryland who were enslaved at the Convent of the Sacred Heart along with his sister Jane Eaglin married to Frank Hawkins both born in Maryland in Grand Coteau Louisiana and still resided there in 1880. They appear frequently in sacramental registers as godparents to other slaves. Also resident in town a white slaveholder Hardey family from Maryland. Some of the enslaved persons at the Convent may have originated with this family whose daughter attended the school there and later entered the order. They may have been holders of Wilson Jacobs and wife Marie Louise Phillips who were in 1849 at the Convent. Two persons surnamed Hardy are witnesses to son's marriage. Not sure if they have any connection with Hardy families you cite.
