Surnames: Waughop, Maund, Jarvis, Machen, Green
I am a descendant of the Waughop Family of Portsmouth Va. My mothers maiden name was Waughop. Eliza Jarvis daughter of
William Jarvis and Mary Maund married James Fryer Waughop in Portsmouth in 1820 and from there is my line.

Eliza's surety was signed by John Jarvis however family records show that William was her father. John Jarvis also left land to
James Fryer Waughop and his wife.

The only explanation for lack of a better one is William Jarvis and his wife Mary Maund were no longer alive by 1820 this can
also be reflected in the fact that they do not appear anywhere in 1810 or 1820 or on any tax rolls.

I do feel that because of the surety of John that they must be related somehow.

In The Heritage of Portsmouth Vol I it states John V. Jarvis who died in Portsmouth in Sep 9 1822 was married first to Ann
Green of Mathews (Gloucester county) and also that John V. Jarvis was born in Mathews (Gloucester) too.
The book mentions that John's mother was Elizabeth Machen
Jarvis who was born in Mathews (Gloucester) county and died in Portsmouth age 81 in 1809. John names one of his son's
Machen Jarvis too!.

What the book does not state is who was John V's father??

Secondly a Machen family book I found talks about the branch that lived in Gloucester (Mathews) County and that one of the
Daughters married a Jarvis and had a son Machen Jarvis who stayed in Mathews county.

Any help on these families is greatly appreciated
