War and the Roane family who had served in the Rev. War and remembered the trying years. "The Roane family, however, was still bitter, and Beverley and Roane continued to insult each other in the newspapers" "...Spencer's father and a leader in Essex during the Revolution." "Spencer's brother Thomas, met Beverely on the road from King and Queen Court House to Tappahannock. Thomas demanded an apology" This book has a picture of Spencer on page 147 and two columns about him. 147 and 148 and writes "perhaps the greatest mind in Essex history, gave America a superb judicial interpretation of Jeffersonian democracy."
