Thanks, Sheila

I remember Johnny's death. If I'm not mistaken he was buried on Nealy Ridge. That was one of the few times that I was able to go to Clincho. My grandmother in Ann, Tommy's younger sister. Gus and Wilma lived in Bristol, Virginia and are both buried in Mountain View Cemetary. Bea, Tommy's other sister, now lives in Flordia

You know what's interesting ... every man seems to be on a horse or mule and holding a gun. I almost thought it to be a posse but there wouldn't be women and children involved. I also note that the mountain behind has all the trees cut down.
You don't suppose this was Ritter's Lumber?

1880 Dickenson census pages mixed with Lipps Dist Wise Co

In the 1880 census, the pages for Lipps District, Wise County, VA, appear to have been bound out of order because interspersed among them are four pages labeled "Dickenson Twp., new county." These pages have a different set of visitation numbers than the ones for Lipps District. These pages are (Image #'s are at Ancestry.com):

p. 319C, Image #7, Visitation Nos. 1/1 thru 13/13
p. 319D, Image #8, Visitation Nos. 14/14 thru 20/20
p. 321D, Image #12, Visitation Nos. 21/21 thru 27/27
p. 328A, Image #25, Visitation Nos. 28/28 thru 30/30

The most serious consequence of the pages being out of order is that families spanning a page break may be split up, and it may not be obvious that it has happened because the surname is not repeated on the next page.

Dickenson County was, indeed, created in 1880, from Wise, Russell, and Buchanan Counties.

I've been searching for about 15 years now for a picture of Jeremiah and Martha McGee Compton, I have pictures of all of their children. I also have an extended amount of pictures of Bart Compton's family, his brother, I have pictures of quite most of his children as well save about 4.

I have a firm belief that an unidentified picture I indeed saw back in 2004 was indeed of Jerry and Martha however the party that has the picture is uncooperative and unwilling to share to say the least so I'm back at square one hoping that there is someone out there somewhere who has one and are willing to share.

Your descendant lineage for Esau & Louisa (Phipps) Mullins agrees with my data with a few exceptions....Esau & Louisa's children were:
1. Emory A. Mullins (Dec 1880-) - Never Married
2. Stephen Mullins (no record of marriage)
3. Florence Mullins ((9 Nov 1883 m. James Trivett, 7 Nov 1904 - died before 1910)
4. Thomsas Mullins (I have no record of him)
5. Caroline Mullins (bc Nov 1885) m. Charles Freeman, 2 Jun 1919, Dickenson Co, VA
6. Mayday 'Madie'/Mattie Mullins
7. Felisha Mullins (15 eb 1894) m.Charles Whitfield (bc 1875 Franklin Co, OH - died bef 1930

If I remember correctly, Louisa (Phipps) Mullins was listed on the 1900 Dickenson Co census as being the mother of 8 children, 7 living. Thomas MAY have been the one that was deceased. 1910 Louisa was listed as the mother of 8 children, 5 living. The 3 deceased were most probably Thomas, Emery, & Florence

Hope this may help.

Sorry, guess I misread your original message. Buren Lambert was actually named Martin Van Buren bc 1839 Lee Co, VA, son of 'Big Jake' & Elizabeth (Wampler) Lambert. 1 May 1863 he enrolled in Co E, 21VA - was killed in action. Henry W. 'Hence' Lambert, bro to Martin Van Buren Lambert, was bc 1838 Lee Co, Va - d. before 1910; he m. Nancy Catherine Neece (bc 1857 VA), dau of Henry & Nancy Neece. Hence and Nancy had 10 children, 7 living in 1900.

As for Lydia Deel m. Kenas Ferrell Fleming, they had 11 children ranging in dobs between 1897 and 1922. I personally know of one granddaughter whose husband is still living. You may contact me privately - pastseeker@comcast.net.

Rose,
According to the Dickenson Co, VA marriage register, on 8 Apr 1919, Charles Whitfield, age 34, Single, b. Franklin Co, OH, parents: Charlie & Ann Whitfield married Felicia Mullins, age 24, Single, b. Dickenson Co, VA, parents: Esau & Louisa Mullins. (At least they were issued a marriage license on that date.)

Charles Whitfield must have died between 1922 and 1930 as Felicia was living w/her brother, Stephen in 1930 Dickenson Co, VA. She was listed as being a widow and her two children, Bruce and Syble Whitfield (bc 1920 and 1922 respectively) were listed in Stephen Mullins' household as well.

Sorry but that's all the info I have on this couple. It should give you a lead to Charles Whitfield's people, tho. If I can be of further help, let me know. Good Luck!
