Searching for more information regarding John CHAPMAN (c.1730-c.1790s) of Cumberland County, VA. Known issue at this time: Elizabeth (b.1756-d.1839) who married Elisha Bowles (also of Cumberland County), Thomas (b.?-d.1827/8) and Nathaniel H. (1761-1829) who married Elizabeth Coleman in Franklin County, VA in 1791.
I am a direct descendant of Nathaniel who was a private and POW in the Revolutionary War from 1778-1781 (he enlisted and served with Elisha Bowles, Jeremiah Basham, and a "Mr. James"). Nathaniel returned to Cumberland County, VA and is recorded as buying his father's property in 1783. Nathaniel moved to Bedford County, VA with the Basham family in 1784.
I would appreciate any further information on Nathan and the rest of his family. Other than the sale of the family farm in 1783, not much else is known of Nathan's father, John. I am willing to share any information concerning the above mentioned families if anyone is interested.
