Surnames: Robertson, Maxey, Winfrey, Tapscott
I have been feverishly working on my family tree for a few years now. A considerable part of my paternal ancestors lived in the Slate River area. My Winfreys were situated in and around Sharon Church / Well Water and my Tapscotts around the Sharp's Creek area. Through multiple trips, I have thoroughly documented and recorded the Winfrey cemetery and homesteads (as well as other local cemeteries) and now I am moving forward with the next generation. My Tapscott work has stalled in an area along Rock Island Creek and 'Howard's Rd.' I have three old land deeds, but no further information.

Although there is a large amount of work done towards Buckingham cemeteries, I have yet to find ANY information concerning the Robertson and Maxey lines from the Muddy Creek area of the Slate River District. I have searched many a family cemetery, but have drawn a blank concerning these surnames. I am looking for the Elisha Robertson family - he and his wife died in the 1870s. I am also looking for Maxeys from the same era. I even noted a Maxey Creek in the immediate area. Maybe there is someone who could help in these areas. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Since you've been to that area have you heard or seen anything about the Gough family living in the same area. Trying to find my GGrandmother who gave birth to my Grandfather near Slate River in 1891.

I have some information on some GOUGHs but I would need at least a first name and if possible a date or and estimate of a date to help you.

There are two Gough Families. Actually one black and one white living across the road from each other. I'm searching for information on Paralee Gough, from the Black side of the family. She married James H. Sampson and had a son, Jacob Milton Sampson in 1890 in the Slate River area. She also had a brother, Robert Gough

Hi. I have an ancestor, black, named Robert, who was born in 1820. I have other info on the black side of the Gough/Goff family. A "Peggy Gough" in Buckingham has done alot on the white side. My family branch of the family moved to Charleston, WV between 1890 - 1910. Let's talk more.
