Hello. I came across Kathleen Booth Williams' book, "Marriages of Amelia County, Virginia," at a book sale. Although I don't know of any of my family originating in Amelia County, VA, I figured I'd grab it for my collection.

I am offering FREE look-ups from this book. If you would like me to check for your ancestors, please feel free to ask. The book is arranged in alphabetical order according to the groom. There is an index; however, that includes the brides' names.

Vivian, There are not any Fannin marriages (including the variant spellings) listed.

Ironically, I am also researching the Fannin family. I have had a heck of a time finding information. I am descended from Joseph & Nancy Fannin. Joseph Fannin was born about 1869 in Illinois. Their son, Thomas Fannin, married Priscilla Ussery. Joseph & Nancy also had a son named Joseph.

There seems to be some ties to Chicago.

I would love to compare notes with you. I could use any help I can get with my Fannin line.

I have just started researching Bryan Fannin and his daughter Mary.
Some Burchett family trees state that Mary Fannin born 1746, married Burwell Burchett in 1771.
I have found a Land Patent for Bryan Fanning 1748 in Amelia County VA and I was hoping to find some marriage records. Sorry I can’t help you with your Fannin’s.

Michelle, I am searching for any marriage connection for Solomon Hougham/Huffham/Huffam. I have him in Amelia County, of Raleigh Parish, "above Flatt Creek" purchasing a deed of lease from James Gates. Date recorded was August 1, 1734. Soloman stayed on this property until after harvest 1738, moving to Edgecombe County NC.

FYI: The foreword for "Marriages of Amelia County, Virginia, 1735-1815" provides some history of the formatio of Amelia County.

Amelia County "was formed from Prince George and Brunswick in 1735 (1734)." "At the meeting of the General Assembly on August 8, 1734, an Act was passed for the formation of Amelia County and reads in part: That from and immediately after the twenty fifth day of March, now next ensuing...."

There is a possiblity that records of Solomon exist in Prince George County and/or Brunswick County.

I know this isn't exactly the information you requested, but I hope some of it is helpful. I will keep my eye out for Solomon.

I didn't have the Cohabitation Bond records. Looks like my Solomon married between 1721 when he was transported to Port Rappahannock and 1734 when he showed up in Amelia County. Just have to keep lookiing!
