Hi Gerald - I know this is a long shot, as you posted so long ago. But I am also a descendant of Leland Johnson. I was researching my gg-grandfather, Orange Johnson, who was born in Danby, VT in 1835, but lived with another family in his childhood (Reuben & Fidelia Morse). I had narrowed his father down to a few suspects, then finally came across a marriage application which stated that his father was Leland Johnson, and his mother was unknown. That matched with Leland listing young sons in the 1840 Danby census. I'm guessing that Leland and Pheobe left Orange behind when they moved West. Have you found any information that would mesh with this? Thanks for any help!!
