I am looking to see if there are cemetery stones for
the following people. Louis and Sophia (Ather) Merchant,
Augustus and Nellie (Ather) Turner and children Merlin Paul,
Glenard Mark and Everett Bernard Turner, William and Lillian (Ather) Shontell and daughter Evelyn (Shontell)
Barden. I know that on findagrave there is a picture for
Joseph and Sophia Ather. These are all in the same family
line. I would love to be able to get pictures of these if
there are stones.

Thanking you in advance,

Susan Audy
White River Jct., Vt

I know it has been a long time since you posted, but I do have information about your George Walton. My husband was a Walton, so I researched his line when I was doing my own tree.

George Walton was the first child of John Walton (age 30) and Eliza Clark (age 22), born in 1762 in Newmarket, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States. He married Mary Parker in 1788 in his hometown when he was 26 and had eight children, a daughter and seven sons, with her. George died on October 11, 1834 in Peacham, Caledonia, Vermont, United States when he was 72.

I have more information should you require it, or you can look up my tree here on ancestry, since it is public. It is under Gagne Family Tree.

I am working on my ATHER family line and connect through Ella E. Demas that married William Ather, 28 Feb 1897, believe in Waterbury, Vt. They had 5 children, Hazel, Merton Jesse, Merlin Guy, Marion and Margaret. I noticed on ancestry.com there were some family photos, etc. under DEMAS, but they were listed as private. I am interested in the photos with Merton and Merlin Ather, twins, and parents, Merlin Guy Ather and Hazel Howard. Would love to hear back on this request. I grew up in Morrisville, Vt and now live in White River Jct., Vt.

Newell's mother Marion would be my second cousin. Her mother Flora was my grandmothers sister. From what I have been about to find was it might have been possible that Nellie Lavarnway my grandmother raised her after Flora died.
I know very little about the family, my father was born to Nellie her first husband was Percy Clifford. My father did talk a little about having a sister Marion.

William Stacy (farmer) b 31 Jul 1716, was the son of William Stac(e)y and Mary Hunt of Salem MA. William Stacy and Mary Hunt were married 10 Aug 1715 (SVR) and William died in 30 Nov 1715 (SVR). Mary Hunt was the daughter of mariner Captain Lewis Hunt. The Essex Institute Historical Collection Vol 42 p 348 records show that the brigantine Adventure set sail from Barbados to New Engalnd 6 Sep 1713 with Captain Lewis Hunt, master and William Stacey, mate. Perhaps the family story of a mariner refer to the grandfather William, rather than the father William.

After I posted, I think I did find them in 1910, with their name mis-transcribed - the original is very faded, and I think Ancestry has them as Blough.

I found this on Heritage Quest

Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont

William Clough, age ?, born Vermont, parents born Vermont
Elizabeth J. Clough, married 2 years, has one child
Agnes Clough, daughter, age 1

The index has his age as 38, but it doesn't look like that to me, it is really not legible. Also, I can't read his occupation.

Daniel Lawrence/Mercy Pollard 1825-1850 Family Info Request

I am looking for any information I can find on the surnames, Lawrence and Pollard, who may have been living in the general vicinity of Waterbury, Washington, Vermont. The two married there according to the Vermont, Vital Records, 1760-1954. They are in the 1850 United States Federal Census living in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont. That is the only census record I can find for either of them and there's no information on either of their parents with the exception of Daniel's mother being name Mary. Mercy dies in 1855 in Burnett, Dodge, Wisconsin. Her youngest child was born c. 1853 in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont. Therefore, the move to Wisconsin took place sometime after the birth of this child and prior to her death. Daniel appears with his children on one more census, the 1860 United States Federal Census in Burnett, Dodge, Wisconsin. He dies in there in 1869. The children are Mary, Harriet, Ellen, Charles, Daniel, George, Frances, Drucilla and Fredrick. Thanks.

So, chasing the Merton Dickinson family down through his brother-in-law, Homer D. Chase, who died at 31 years of age on 6 May 1912, of Typhoid Fever and pneumonia in Roxbury, Washington, Vermont:

From the Northfield News, May 7, 1912, front page:

Homer Chase aged 32 years, died last night at 11:45 o'clock at the home of his parents in Roxbury village, after a long and painful illness of typhoid fever and pneumonia.

Homer D. Chase was born August 19, 1880, in Roxbury the only son of Melvin E. and Emma Roys Chase. He received his education in the schools, and grew to manhood in his native town. He was a frail child from boyhood, which prevented him from entering into any profession, and he had always remained at the home of his parents.

He was taken ill seven weeks ago with typhoid fever, and after several weeks recovered from that and began to convalesce, but later he was taken with convulsions, and still later, pneumonia developed, which was the immediate cause of his death. He was a great sufferer but bore his pain with much patience.

Mr. Chase is survived by his father and mother, and by one sister, Mrs. Lena Dickinson of Keene, N. H., who has been at home assisting in his care. Everything possible was done to save life, that medical skill could devise, but of no avail and he gradually sank to his death.

The funeral will be held from his home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. A. H. Webb officiating and burial will be in the family lot in Roxbury cemetery. The bearers will be some of his associates.

Bagley is in his place on the section.

...

A pretty home wedding was solemnized Wednesday at two p. m. at the home of the bride, when Merton Dickinson and Lena R. Chase were united in marriage by Rev. Walter Dole of Northfield. No guests were invited and the happy couple left on the mail train for a wedding trip, returning Saturday noon; at present they will board at the Columbian. Their many friends wish them a fair voyage and smooth sailing on the sea of matrimony.

They can probably find a burial certificate for Louis E. Ather. The certificate may be able to provide a death date and location.

I may/ may not have the parents, but offer a clue.

I found an obituary for Philo Kiser, Wednesday, March 26, 1890
Paper: Argus and Patriot ** Montpelier, VT

News was received on Monday of the death of Philo Kiser, of Quincy, Cal., on March 6th. Mr. Kiser was a native of Plainfield (Vt.) where he resided 30 years.

He started for the west where he remained there for the rest of his life. At the time of his death, he was 74 years
old, and unmarried.
He was the brother of H. O. Kiser (possibly Harvey O. Kiser)
of Plainfield, and Dexter Kiser, who now resides in Kansas.

If it is Harvey O Kiser, his parents listed on the death are :	Orrin Kiser, Fanny Olds.
There are possibly two other brothers of Harvey:
--
Levi P. Kiser

Vermont, Vital Records, 1760-1954

birth:	1824	Morristown, Vermont
death:	16 Jun 1873	, , Vermont, United States
residence: Plainfield,Vt.
parents:	Orrin Kiser, Fanny Olds
--
Otis Gilbert Kiser

Vermont, Vital Records, 1760-1954

birth:	1815	Lowell, Vermont
death:	13 Mar 1882	, , Vermont, United States

parents:	Orin Kiser
I too am looking for a Childs male with an unknown first name, born in VT. I am guessing that he may have been born between 1795 and 1800. His son, Ervin or Irvin Childs was born in 1820 in NY and died in IA after 1880. The mother of Ervin/Irvin is not known, but she was born in NY according to census info.

Wareham Stacy may have been living in Barre Vt near his brother Mahlon Stacy but both of them were born in Wilbraham MA to William Stacy and his 2nd wife, Anna Chaffee ( She was married before and her maiden name was Torrey). Mahlon had served during the end of the Revolutionary War and had recieved bounty land and a pension. One of his descendants used the information to join the Sons of the American Revoultion. Mahlon served in the 4th Mass and 1st American reg. from Mar 3, 1783 to Jun 30,1784 enlisted from Wilbraham. William Stacy, his father was born in Salem, MA and moved to Greenwich, MA and then to South Wilbraham which became Hampden,Ma in 1878. He was a farmer not a sailor.

Robert R. Howieson was also the father of James B. Howieson (John Wadleigh Howieson's brother). James B. is my GG grandfather. Robert B. Howieson was born in 1774 and died 4/6/1855. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetary, Drummond County, Quebec. Nancy Wadleigh Howieson was born either in Danville, Vt. or Danville, Que on 4/2/1792. She died 9/19/1863. I believe they had at least 4 children: your John Wadleigh Howieson, born 1822 Kingsey Falls, Que., Robert ?, Margaret ? and James B. born 10/30/1820 in Shipton, Quebec, died July 13, 1901 Elmore, Vermont. James B. married and had at least 4 children who all remained in and around the Elmore and Worcester, Vt. area. These towns are about 15 miles north of Montpelier, Vermont.
One of Elgin's son's, Fred Blaisdell Howieson, made his way out to British Columbia in the early part of the 20th Century. He was a lumberman. Nancy Wadleigh's mother's maiden name was Blaisdell.

Sorry to be late - storms most of the day and just got my computer going again. I don't like lightening! We did have strong winds and lots of rain but no lightening. My sister in Waterbury just sent me an e-mail - she has her son, daughter-in-law and two little ones there and she said she would call me tomorrow or I will get ahold of her and be in touch. It is sad but I have heard that Waterbury was not the only one who lost loads of things like records. They had their told ones in the basement - I think that is what Penny (sister) told me last year. A good friend of hers was the Town Clerk but think she retired not too long ago. I will see what I might be able to find. Penny will know the cemetery well to and she will know who is in charge of that. Middlesex should have a copy of the death and maybe a burial card. I certainly would try them. Be back tomorrow sometime.

Susan-I could not find Louis Ather. Do you know if he died in Vermont? He should be listed if he died in the state. I thought about calling the Waterbury Town Clerk but had heard that they lost all their records during Hurricane Irene last summer. I did see the Find-A-Grave with just the year date for the death. My sister lives in Waterbury and I can call her to ask who might be in charge of Hope Cemetery in Waterbury.
