Hi Don, I do have some additional information. I'm sorry it's taking me so long to get it together. And I didn't want to write back with anything that's misleading. The John Bishop who was in Clarendon, VT in about 1783/84 was John Bishop, Jr. and he did later move to Monkton, Addison County, then to Canada, in about 1800 I think.

John and some of his brothers served in the Revolutionary War, and there is some good pension information about them. One brother, Elijah, eventually moved to Essex County, NY, which is where my ancestor John Fitch Bishop lived. I haven't found any cemetery records for any of these Bishops, but have found some information from the town in Canada they moved to. Do you have that info? I'll get the details I have found together and post that as soon as I can.

John Bishop sr. must have been the one who homesteaded in Monkton in 1773 as a John Bishop is listed as living there on Monkton Ridge. John Bishop jr. came to Canada in 1794 and settled on a land grant called Bishop's crossing, now called Bishopton. It is known that he was in Canada prior to this date as he was a prisoner in Quebec City.

Information that I have is from several sources. One is the work called "Bishop Families in America" by Ira Bishop. John Bishop, born Dec. 31, 1730 (birth recorded in New Haven, CT). Probably died after 1800 in Monkton, VT. Married Jan. 1, 1751 (New Haven) to Rachel RUGGLES, daughter of Joseph and Rachel (TOLLES) RUGGLES. Rachel was born July 7, 1732.
Their children: Rachel, b. Oct. 22, 1752, married Ephraim CURTIS; Sarah, b. Dec. 17, 1754; John, b. Feb. 27, 1757, died Aug. 20, 1801, Dudswell, Quebec, married Esther ANDREWS in about 1784-85; Ruby, born June 17, 1759, married Henry SPAULDING on May 7, 1778; Timothy, born about 1761, died at age 25 about 1785-6, (death attributed to sordid living conditions while a prisoner of war in Quebec); Elijah, b. Nov. 2, 1763, died Mar. 11, 1839, Essex County, NY, married Tabith HOLCOMB about 1788; Samuel, born about 1765, died July 16, 1842, Lewis, Essex County, NY, married Boadicia GIBBONS before 1800; Sally, born about 1867; Urania, born about 1768, died Mar. 3, 1785, married Capt. Wm. KELLOGG; Napthali, born May 15, 1770, died Feb. 15, 1849, Dudswell, Quebec, married Rebecca ANDREWS in Monkton, VT.
Another source is a history of Dudswell. Do you already have that information? Is this the kind of information you're looking for on this family?

i am looking for the Bishop that married the daughter of Abner Moor from Addison County Vermont.

2 Bishop sons are listed in Abner Moor's will. Daughter must be dead and it does not mention the father's name.

Abner Moor was the Great, Great, Great Grandfather of my husband Ev Pettey. Abner's wife's name is Barsheba and they are both buried in Salisbury Addison County Vermont
