I am the grandson of Jane Hopla James. I have been working on the Family Group Sheet for John and Catherine using PAF with the intent of making certain that all of the necessary ordinance work has been done. I have completed the search and would be happy to share any information that I have. I have the family history records found in the Rees David James family Bible which has information on the Hopla family. My intent is to check out all of the families in my direct line relative to ordinance work being completed. Feel free to contact me directly using my e-mail address, mljames@info2000.net. I would be interested in obtaining any information on the line, for example, do you know if their son John was ever married.

This is what I have - hope it helps

Daughter of John Hopla, born June21, 1820 at Prollchrom, Wallaston Cross, Pembrokeshire, South Wales, and second wife Harriet Green Scatchard Hopla. In 1861 they left Salt Lake to make their home in Spanish Fork.

When sixteen years of age, Catherine went to work cooking for the men who worked on the first railroad in Spanish Fork Canyon. Later she was employed as a cook for men working on a canal at the Point of the Mountain near Salt Lake City.
Novermber 3, 1881, she married Ephrain George Davis in the St George Tempe.

Catherine and Ephraim were the parents of seven children and they had lived at several different places until the death of Ephraim, July 7, 1894. Left a widow at the age of thirty-two, and with small children to provide for, Catherine did sewing and dressmaking and was a practical nurse in the community. Her mother, by then a widow also, was still living in the family hame. Catherine and her family moved in with her and Harriet was a help looking after the children and overseeing things as Catherine worked.

Catherine lived to be ninety-one years old. She died June 2, 1952, at Salt Lake City. -- Hannah Bowen Rowe, granddaughter

Catherine G. Hopla Davis

Linda,

As your name is Linda Hopla, and John Hopla (1820-1892) was your gg grandfather. The info you have on his life would be of great interest, even if I already have some of it already.
