Harriet Green Scatchard
Hopla. In 1861 they left Salt Lake to make their home in
Spanish Fork.
When sixteen years of age, Catherine went to work cooking for the men who worked on the first railroad in
Spanish Fork Canyon. Later she was employed as a cook for men working on a canal at the Point of the Mountain near Salt Lake City.
Novermber 3, 1881, she married Ephrain George
Davis in the St George Tempe.
Catherine and
Ephraim were the parents of seven children and they had lived at several different places until the death of
Ephraim, July 7, 1894. Left a widow at the age of thirty-two, and with small children to provide for, Catherine did sewing and dressmaking and was a practical nurse in the community. Her mother, by then a widow also, was still living in the family hame. Catherine and her family moved in with her and
Harriet was a help looking after the children and overseeing things as Catherine worked.
Catherine lived to be ninety-one years old. She died June 2, 1952, at Salt Lake City. -- Hannah
