Hi Cherlyn,

This is Hazel and I haven't talked to you for years; infact, I think you were moving from Cal. to the Midwest. A long time. I was wondering what happened to the Sheries Tales website? That was such a good site and I was wondering how to get the information that was on there. I hope you can help me out. Thanks!!!!

Hazel Myers

I have an unidentified photograph with the same moniker on the back. In searching for info which might help me figure out the time period and the identity, I found a website (link below) discussing the history of Ephraim. It says M. Jensen was the first photography in Ephraim. The way I read it, he had set up shop by 1880.

http://files.usgwarchives.net/ut/sanpete/history/ephraim.txt

Talk about a shot in the dark...I'd like to find someone who is related to the above two men. Their father's name was Christian. They were in the Wisconsin area probably not too far from Appleton, Shiocten, Bovina area. My Curtis family/Tabor family settled in that area and my grandmother Mildred Curtis had boxes of photographs and amongst them there is a photo of the two young men and a fancy new looking car. Very nice photo and I'd love for someone to be able to use it. Morgan was born in Dec 1891 and Howard was born April 1895. Would be happy to find a home for this photograph.
Janet

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

Hi!

I've been looking for a long time to find information on George W. Robinson who married Jane Woolsey. Apparently he was not a Mormon pioneer, but was born in California and wound up in Utah as part of a Union army detachment in the Civil War. Do you know more about him?

Jane's father Thomas Woolsey was my great-grandfather. My great grandmother Julia Ann Mitchell Woolsey is buried in Manti near Jane and the Axelsons.

If I had this right her father was Rasmus Peter Christensen. She married Niels Erastus Nielson. I do have a photo of her home, grave and a picture of her and Niels when they were younger.

I just stumbled on to your post. Although I realize you posted it several years ago, I thought I would add what I know. My grandmother was Elnora Christina Anderson. (One of the children listed in one of the other posts.) She married James Averett and lived in Clear Creek for several years and then Price. She died in 1969. Her brother Virgil lived in Sunnyside, Utah and died in the late 1960's.

Nora and James had 5 children: May Averett Snow, Ruth Averett Seever, Zella Averett Wiseman, Ida Averett Llewelyn, Frank Averett and Doris Averett Llewelyn. Doris was my mother. Unfortunately all of these people have died.

I apologize for forgetting to post it:

http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=12&Z=12&X=55...

I see you are new to posting inquiries on the Rootsweb message boards, at least under this user name. When you post, it is important to fully identify who you seek and specifically what you actually want. Volunteers will find information you already have, which I "believed" to be the case from your posting. But, when you say "Any other information I can find" that gives volunteers a free for all.

I'm assuming the topographic map you are referring to is from the site http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx#searchTabI.... If it is, right now the mapping is not available but I'll check later. I'm not sure it makes sense that the property is in Ephraim when they lived in Fountain Green?? Every thing I've read refers to living and working in Fountain Green.
I appreciate the information you provided including the web sites that will help in other research. Thanks

Thanks but I already have this information. I'm really trying to find out exactly where they lived. I've been to the County Recorder and found where Niels quit claimed some property to Else in 1889 which wasn't filed until 1920 and she in turn transferred it to their daughter Maggie Frandsen. The recorders office wasn't very helpful.

As far as a farm, the below identifies a farm obtained by Niels in 1889. But, the 1900 Census shows him in Fountain Green, working as a laborer. The 1910 census identifies him as a Farmer/Home Farm; as a "W"/Worker, meaning he was probably working as a farmer on his own account. BUT, that doesn't mean he ownd the land where he was working. He could have been renting land area. Since Antone Frandsen and his wife Maggie (Sorensen) is the family listed just above him, he might have been share cropping with his son-in-law. The question, was this the same farm as the one obtained by Niels in 1889? I'd "GUESS" no, but only the county property records could provide that answer. Under the Homestead Act requirements, a land patent required a five year ownership with improvements made to the land. This land "appears" to be a patent issued under the April 24, 1820 Congressional law.

The Bureau of Land Management has a database of land patents issued:
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx#searchTabI...
under the Homestead Act and other Congressional Land Acts:
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/ah-homestead.html

It shows Niels Sorensen obtaining 120 acres of land on Feb 6, 1889 (06.02.1889) in Sanpete County, UT, located at Township 16 South, Range 3 East, in Section 29, in the parts of:
a. The West half the NW Quarter (section)
b. The South East quarter of the NW Quarter (section)

Here is a topographic map of that area. You will see red colored squares, those are Sections. (in this map there are other red lines in dashes those are not the Section lines. A Section is one of our miles square. A Section contains 640 acres. You will see a red colored "29" on this scale. That is section 29. Mentally or on paper, divide this square into quarters. A quarter Section is 160 acres. Looking at the top left quarter (the Northwest Quarter), his land was the left half of that quarter section (80 acres). Looking at the bottom right quarter of that quarter, his land was that bottom right quarter/the SE Quarter of the NW Quarter Section.

Now that you've found the exact location, you can zoom out using the Out/In-Plus/Minus scale at the top left side of the map. Zoom out to the 4th block up from the + sign. You can see the red colored "31" for Section 31, his land in Section 29 was in the red square just above. You can see the town of Ephraim.

Open another Internet Window and go to Mapquest (the Classic version is much better):
http://classic.mapquest.com/
Enter the town of Ephraim and UT for Utah.
At the first map you'll see the area. You can zoom into this area also. Then switch at the top right corner of the map to Aerial Map. Using the topomap and this one, you can see just where that land was located and what it looks like today.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

My husband is a descendant of Soren Pedersen (Samuel Petersen) who was one of Margarethe's sons from her first marriage, but until we were in Denmark and found information on them all emigrating we didn't know anything about her and Jens Marcher, we knew they had married, but didnt know they had lived in Manti.
We have been interested in any information on her after coming here, or any pictures that anyone might have.
Would be glad to share any information we have, but it would be on the Pedersen's not the Marchers.
Thank you for any help you may be able to give us.

familysearch.org has information on Annie. It states she was born 2 Mar 1867 in Mount Pleasant, Sanpete, Utah and died on 31 Aug 1940 in St. Anthonly, Fremont, Idaho. Her burial was 3 Sep 1940 in Wilford Fremont, Idaho. Her name and pic of her headstone is also on findagrave.com. She had seven children between 1889 and 1904. You can contact the public library in Fremont County, Idaho and ask if they can look up her obituary.

Manti City Hall's address is 50 South Main, Manti, UT 84642. I am not sure who you would address it to since David hasn't left his last name. You can probably contact them at 435-835-2401. I used to live in Manti.
