Descendants of Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald - Reunion Sept 8, 2012

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pioneer Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

Chuck, Her name is Florence Dinkle Foster. She was married to James Douglas Foster. They lived and died in Mesa, Arizona as far as I can tell. However, they were both buried in the Blanding, Utah cemetary. James's Father was George Steven Foster and his Mother was Annie E. Cole according to the cemetery records.I don't have the names of Florence's parents. I know her maiden name is Dinkle or Dunkle. The cemetery records list her as Dinkle. The reason I know this information because my Mother-in-law is named Florence and people doing geneology have mixed her up with Florence Dinkle and have her listed as James Foster's wife in the geneological records. I am trying to straighten out the mess. I hope finding Florence's maiden name will help you.

Joan Wasden

I have been researching my family tree and found that Lelon, Theran, Bradley, Garth, Gregory, & Kyle Hill all died on 21 Dec 1981, in Montecello, San Juan Co., Utah. I was wondering if anyone would have the time to look-up an obituary(s) or newspaper article that would explain how father and sons all died on the same day. Thank you for your time.

When I first met him and his wife (Carol) they lived in Moab, Utah with their 1st son (James)--they had eight more children. And was living in Mobticello, Utah at the time of James W. Sallee's death in 1993. His wife Carol and some of the children are still living there.
Am in hopes I can reach some of the family as I have some pictures and information I think they might like to have.
Thank you again for your response.
I was from Cedar Point Utah and James and his family were liveing across the canyon at Eastland Utah. I was a Sawmill foreman at a Lumber Mill at Recapture Canyon. James worked at the Mill several summers. We kept chickens at our farm and I would take fresh eggs to work and The Auracana chickens layed colored eggs. James was takeing the colored eggs and hatching chicks and had a steel grainery that he used as a brooder house.

Hi,
I called my dad and told him that I had gotten a response on the post. He did tell me that your grandmother was my grandmother's half sister also. My dad said that your grandmother moved from Monticello before he was old enough to remember, but he knew of her, his name is Louis, but when he was a kid they called him Gunny. He also said that he had a copy of the article celebrating Jose Gonzales's 100th birthday. It has some interesting family history in it. I went to church a few times with Patricia when I was a little girl. The last time I saw her was about a month before my grandmother passed away, which was two years ago today. Most of the family that I am aware of has moved away from Monticello. I visit the area once a year, my aunt Virginia lives near Monticello in Dove Creek, Colorado. I do have pictures of my grandmother Sulema and and of our great grandfather. My aunt Virginia actually has a wedding picture of great grandfather Gonzales's parents. Anyway, maybe you could tell me more of that side of the family - I don't know a lot about the family so it would be great to hear about - I am really excited to have found a relative. Talk to you soon.

I have been back to Monticello when our great-grandfather was still alive, but have not been back since. Patricia is my grandothers sister, Sulema was her half-sister. Do you have any pictures of him?

John,
Thanks for replying to my post. I think we have the same great grandfather. He was born on October 24, 1884. I found out what year after I posted the message. My grandmother was Sulema Delara, she passed away 2 years ago this week. I think maybe your grandmother may be my grandmother's sister. I know she had sisters, but the only one I can remember the name of is Patricia. Just out of curiosity... I know almost all of family left the Monticello area - where did your part of the family end up? Please contact me, Thanks again, Leah

I know he passed away on May 5 so you might want to try the newspapers after that date. He was born I believe in October 1884, so check those dates also.

1933: When my youngest son, Frank, was 3 1/2 years old, We lived about twenty miles south of a town called Dove creek, Colorado.
The place where we lived was very thinly populated and there were lots of trees and canyons.
One October afternoon when the days were warm and the nights were cool, Frank which we called (Junior) left the house with his father and his older brother, Earl, who was home from school with a sore foot.
They went out and Junior watched them hitch a team of horses to a load of logs that they were going to take about two miles south of there to build a house where we were going to live.
After watching the team being hitched up Junior was told to go back to the house and stay with his mother.
Instead of doing that he decided to follor his Father and brother. He must of lost sight of them and took the wrong road and started the wrong way.
(My note: as told to me by others.) A bear crossed the horse tracks after my dad and brother went by. I didn't know the difference between bear tracts and horse tracts.
He wandered a long the edge of the canyon for about three and a half to four miles. A girl by the name of Genevieve Rose came across him on the way home from school. She put him on her horse and took him on to her home. Her brother, Glen, then put him on the horse and took him to his own home, getting tere about dark.
Junior was avery tired and the next day didn't feel like doing anything but sit in a rocking chair.
Meanwhile when Junior didn't come back with his father and brother I started looking all over the ranch yard to see if he was around.
After not finding him, I came to the conclusion that he had went with his father. His father and brother came back and it was then we realized that he was gone somewhere. The first thing the people did down there when they found out he was gone, started looking for tracks.
They found his tracks and followed them down the road for about a mile then he left the road and went into the woods.
additional information by me. in oct 1933 my dad was building a log cabin, about 2 miles from where we were living. we were living in a tent at a place called "bug point". my dad hitched up the horses, i asked if i could go with him,he told me no. i didn't think this was fair, as he let one of my older brother's earl go with him. earl had hit his foot with an axe the night before. i didn't think that was fair, so i decided to follow them anyway. i was following their horse tracts, pretty good for a 3 year old. the only bad thing is that, a bear went across the horse tracks, and i didn't know the differance. my mother came out to look for me, right after my dad left, and when she find me, thought i had gone with my dad. it wasn't until he came home, that they found out, that i was missing. my mother said she didn't know how they did it, as very few people had telephones in those days; but in just a short time almost everone around the area was looking for me. they found my tracks and said i had gone about 5 or 6 miles, and had walked along the edge of some canyons. i was in the sagebrush when i was found

You can try contacting his son, Hardy Redd. He's listed in the phone book as C. Hardy & Sonny Redd. You might also want to contact the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monticello, UT.
Im' searching for my fathers
brothers. They would be gentlemen in their 70's. Their father was Fermin R. Lopez and their mother was Adelina Lopez. They could be in the Monticello area. That's where my father,grand-parents and several uncles are buried.
