He is trying to find the connection between the descendents of Caroline Amelia Owens Webb and Edward Milo Webb and the Udall family in Arizona.
In a letter 1879) from Mary Jane Stockdale to George, her brother, she tells that William, their oldest brother, is receiving a pension from the police force and does a bit of painting. In a later letter, (1884) Wm. asks George for a bit of money as he unable to work and is living in Fulham Union Workhouse in London. He has a daughter Ellen (Copeland?) living in Hammersmith, London at that time, and his 18 yr old son (Stephen ?) is living in Canada. Does this info jive with yours? What else can you share?

We will have to exchange adresses, then send the information to each other.
I have a very early printout (1828) where Hannah has been appealing on behalf of her Brother in Law - Joseph. He was trying to claim poor relief and Hannah went in front of the magistrates on his behalf. It is only a very short paragraph but there is much information. I think that she may have been able to read and right. I could identify with her straight away, I could just see her rolling up her sleeves and saying that "she would sort it out!. Just like many women in the family today.

Thanks, it was great to hear from you. I am just trying to sort out all the paperwork, how do we manage to accumulate so much paper?!!
Stephen was George's nephew. It would be marvelous to have more information,we have quite a story to tell between us.
When my Grandfather sent an equiry to the newpaper in Filmore, I think that he would be trying to tell his brother that Grandfather was now married and had just become a Father for the first time.
I am awaiting Stephen's birth certificate, it may not have the correct Mother's name on it, I will have to wait and see.I hold a copy of the death certificate of Jemima Greenaway in London and the informant was my Granfather then living in Thornaby on Tees.
Stephen's Father - William, was a Victorian Policeman in the metropolitan district of London. We can trace decendants in the family who are also policeofficers. One being present day in London.

I am not sure why I haven't been alerted to these responses before, but am so excited to learn more about these families! How is the best way to share your info with me? I have been transcribing letters written to George from his sister, Mary Jane, in England, as well as a few from Stephen, his nephew in Ontario, and Maggie, a niece. Dates range from 1884 to 1914. Info on Hannah has been extremely hard to verify, so I am sincerely pleased to read of your success.

I was going through one of grandma's trunks & found an old family bible Which has my grandpa James D Chapman & his 1st wife Lydia Ellis Thompson (dau of Daniel & Lydia A (Ivie) Thompson) in it. I would like to share it with some Thompson researchers:
http://picasaweb.google.com/quartzsite.gen/Chapman/photo#509...

I am hoping this might be the San Luis Stake Academy in Manassa Colorado which Lydia taught at & maybe one of the lady's in the back could be her:
http://picasaweb.google.com/quartzsite.gen/GrandmaSTrunk/pho...

Dennis

We were just thrilled to run across your biography of Alexander Phillip Chesley. Almost everything that you wrote corresponds with what we know of his life. He is my great-great grandfather on my mother's side. The only major discrepency is the name of his son who was born to Emily in Potowatomy, Iowa. My mother says that his name was George Briscar or Brisker and you have him listed as George Alexander. The George Chesley I know married Mary Anne George and one of their children was my grandmother Fay Cautra Chesley born on April 23, 1895 in Petersburg, Utah.

Look forward to any additional information you might have.

Vance Wood

My wife's family is from Kanosh and the old newspapaers have considerable information about who did what and in some cases made the police blotter. Some of these old newspapers are even better than any vital records that you may be able to find. Hope this helps.

My thread is not exactly what you asked for but maybe I could fill in a few gaps.
My grandmother was Elsie May Steele. She was born 7 Jun 1895 and lived to be 96 years old. I lived with her much of my life and she talked often of family history. She was the eldest child of Thomas Steele and Emeline Taylor and was the grand daughter of Ephraim and Fanny Steele, Elizabeth's brother. One of Elsie's younger sister's was named Emily Annette after her father's Aunts. If anyone would be interested in filling in my part in this tree I would be glad to elaborate.
I was also told various family stories which may be true but may just be a bit fanciful. The stories come from Fanny Steele nee Cope who knew the whole family and so have a good chance of some basis of fact.

After much research, I have at last manged to connect Stephen Greenway of Filmore to George Greenway. From a Utah digital newspaper date October 23rd 1898, there is a small paragraph asking for the whereabouts of Stephen Greenway and George Greenway. The enquirer was my Grandfather, George Greenway in Thornaby on Tees, England. The address given is correct. George Greenway in Filmors was his Uncle and Stephen was his brother.
From Uk 1881 census, Stephen was in an industrial school on the "Special" register. He was being educated purposely to be sent to Canada. Stepehn was discharged from the school on his 16th birthday and the next day he sailed from Liverpool to Canada. The school records show he was working in Toronto for a little while. I lost track of him until he turned up in Filmore amrried to Jane Wade. I always felt that there was a connection, as my Grandfather had named one of his sons Stephen.
I have only managed to trace four "Greenaway" brothers, all born in London. The other three settled in Teeside earning a living in the steel industry.
They were, Joseph William,George,Albert.
I would love to forward Stephen's early years story and a copy of what few records I hold, onto his decendants, it is an interesting story. It would be wonderful if there was a photo, I have one of the other three.

I can help you with your enquiries re William Greenaway & Hannah Knowles.
William & Hannah married in May 1825 (may have been 1824, I will look this up) at Hull in Yorkshire England.
William was a foot soldier in the 66th Regiment and the regigiment moved to Ireland after they were married. Hannah went with him and their first son (William) was born there.
From Ireland, William was discharged through illness and they returned to Newbury in Berkshire where George was born.
The discharge papers give a description of William and where he served.
There is a lot of information available to you, but difficult to tell all in one go.
I would be most interested in copies of your info on George Greenway, my great grandfather. Please let me know if this is possible. Georgia was George's only child and Georgia, my grandmother, has considerable posterity of whom I have info.

I would be most gratified to receive anything you have regarding these family members. I have a few letters from Stephen to my great grandfather, George, written in 1885 when he was in Ontario, I believe it indicates Oakville, difficult to read in pencil. Stephen mentions his brother Bill is married and sending Mrs. Copeland a letter. I don't know anything about these two individuals other than that. Stephen mentions working on a farm, familiar with horses, etc. as was George.
