This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pionner Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

lost my account info, is there anyone out there who has done family history from the cox line to the Morris/risenmay lines. just wondering. My grandfather is Orin J. Cox who was married to Sybil Morris Cox, and what is showing up at the LDS website is all over the board due to the new program. Also, if anyone has any pictures of the Cox family they have scanned in I would love to have copies, if your willing to share, we have nothing of Orin or his brothers or sisters. I do have one of Orville and Pamela Elvira Mills, my grandmother's pics are gone. My e-mail address is Dal_lover1961@yahoo.com. thanks

It is 1882, not 1883.

I got reply from Utah State History department. They said the border kept changing from 1864 to 1882 when the legislative set the fixed border.

They said for all practicial puprose, list the area as in Washington County because the record keeping was in St. George rather than Toquerville during that time period.

Found the answer to my question. When Kane County was created in 1864 Toquerville was the County Seat. The change lasted until 1883 when Toquerville was moved back into Washington County. Still the date of the change back.

You have a good question and I believe the census taker goofed on Toquerville because it is too far west and north of Hurricane.

I called Utah State History office (Dept of Archives and History) and posed 2 questions.
1. Was there ever any change in boundary between Washington and Kane counties?
2. If there were changes, what towns were involved?

I'm still confused. The 1870 and 1880 Censuses lists Duncan's Retreat as being in Kane County. Also Toquerville in 1870 and 1880 was in Kane County - they should have both been in the same county until that county line changed, sometime around 1882, wondered if anyone had the date of that change.

always in Washington County.

Boundary didn't change.

Duncan's Retreat was abandoned in 1866 after 2nd Virgin River flood. Eventually by 1891 due to constant high water flood from Virgin River, the town was finally completely deserted.

I am looking for an obit for Joseph Thomas Gonzales which I have been told appeared in The Southern Utah News.
Joe b. 1-14-1940 d. 3-16-1999 Phoenix, AZ. Joe was my ex husband and I am researching this side of my children's family history. Joe served as a Sheriff in Kanab. There is a unique connection. My cousin 4x removed was Levi Stewart b. 4-28-1812 in IL d. 6-14-1878 Johnson, Kane County, Utah. Levi was insttructed by President Young to go and colonize Kanab with his cousin Lyman Porter, for whom Porterville, Morgan County, Utah.

Also interested in anyone related to Porter/Stewart line

Thank you
Jan Porter Ahola
jlahola@jamadots

Anyone know of a book (articles/stories) relevant to this particular wagon train? My ancestors travelled with these folks, and I'm looking for more information about them. I've secured a few stories from the DUP & list of names from the LDS website, but am also looking for other sources. Thank you.
BLISS

Elliza BLISS in 1870 was living with her father Norman BLISS in Toquerville - which I believe was in Kane Co. at the time. By 1880 she is gone and in 1883 a will indicates she is married [not married name listed] and living in San Juan Arizona. Would there possibly be marriage records somewhere in Kane County that might not be posted on the Western State Marriage Index?

Karen,

I have just finished indexing all of the Kane County Marriages up through 2006 and they are now part of the Western State Marriage Index. You may want to put a link to this index for searching Kane County Marriages. The URL is

http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/westernStates/searc...

I have also indexed 7 other counties and I am currently working on two more.

If you can't get into Digital newspapers with this try going into to Google -Utah's Digital newspapers. Good luck.
Mickey

Hi Jack,
It seems you are right about the first baby boy. Checking the dates, Lorenzo Dow Young (son of Lorenzo and Harriet Young) was born September 20, 1847, thirteen days before Levi Brinkerhoff (son of James and Sally Ann) who was born November 3, 1847. It seems Ms. Fish was just a hair off.

John-

Thank you for the history of James Brinkerhoff. One note:
Patty Sessions, who was in the same wagon train with James,
writes in her journal that the first baby boy born in the Salt Lake
Valley was that of Lorenzo and Harriet Young's. Since Patty was also Sally Ann's midwife I am assuming her record is correct and that Levi Brinkerhoff was not the first boy born there.
