I know that Garfield County was created in 1882. My question is; was it a part of Iron County before that? Thanks for any help.

I recently went thru an Antique Store in Springville, Utah and bought a little book called: 'Land and Leaders of Israel' by Ezra C. Dalby. This book has Mamie Foy's, Escalante, Utah - signature, and some figuring and writing of hers inside the cover. I am really enjoying reading the book, but feel that it belongs to one of her descendants.

Kenneth Dwight, age 5/12/Oregon. The Census was enumerated on 23/24 April, so Kenneth would have been born about Nov/Dec 1939.

Sopha Schurtz, 12/1/1892 to 10/20/1968, buried in the Escalante Cemetery, with Don Carlos. I see daughter Beulah married Loren Blood and you have the cemetery information. Posting for others research:

Nothing showing on this person, but you might be able to go around a search on her by looking at her siblings:

Adren Wayne Blood, born 20 Mar 1922 in Richfield, UT. Enlisted into the Navy on 7/13/1942 at Salt Lake. He ended service on 12/7/1945 in Shoemaker, California. He was discharged under honorable conditions, served on the USS Allen and USS Rowan. Attended West Coast Sound School; Sonar Operators refresher. Received medals of the American Area Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Overseas from 9/6/1942 to 8/17/1944.
He died on 16 Sep 1970. His burial tribute (your information):

If you have not already, obtain his obit to see if there is any mention of his sister. His wife Elsie Mae (Rhodes) died 18 Sep 2009 in South Jordan, UT. Her obit probably doesn't show Anna, but it might.

Sister Venna Cleo Blood, born 1 May 1924, died 1 Feb 2002 (location not identified).

Venna B (Blood) Nash, born 1 May 1924, died 11 Feb 2002, "last residence:" Salt Lake City, Utah. (The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT always where a person lived or died).
--Obituary Daily Times identified there were obits for Venna on 2/1/2002 in the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune.
Names associated to Venna were: Duane J. Nash, Russell Lynn Nash, Sherrie Goff Nash.
www.zabasearch.com shows contact information for Russell. He might know information about his aunt.

The 1940 Census is the most recent Census.

I tried to find Anna's death date but couldn't find it. Maybe she married and then the date would be under her married name. Successful Searching!

In 1940 Viola was living in Ontario, Malheur, oregon with the Hill family.
Viola Shurtz, b. UT, 20, lodger, single, educ=high school 4, housekeeper private home, in 1935 she was living in Rural Garfield Co., UT.
Kenneth Dwight Shurtz, b. OR, 5/12th, lodger's son.

Viola probably married after 1940 and you'll need her married name to find her death info. Successful Searching!

Hi,

IF Aaron was Don and Sophia's child, he was born after the 1940 Census. He doesn't appear on that or any other Census.

I don't think the State of Utah will release a birth certificate until 100 years has passed but you'll find the details at archives.ststae.ut.us/research/guides/birth.htm.

Most Utah marriages aren't published on-line either. Successful Searching!

Believe Sarah Maraboots died some time before Ira Hatch went to Sunset, Arizona with his 3 younger children. We have visited Sunset Cemetery and did not find her.

Descendants of Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald - Reunion Sept 8, 2012

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pionner Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

I am not aware that it is on a CD. My reference to a "digital" copy is that someone on this "thread" had/has a .pdf version. It may be on "Google Books" or "Heritage Quest" thru your local library system--if they have HQ. I no longer have the book.

This (original) is an old post, but I feel the need to respond.

1) My great-great grandfather is Charles Wellington Snyder. I don't have a lot of family history, though, but I do have a little bit.

2) My great-grandmother is Annice Bea Snyder. Her name is not Beatrice, nor was it ever. The story I have is that her mother wanted to just put the letter B, but they wouldn't accept it, so she spelled it B-E-A. FYI.

3) Anyone have a birth certificate for Caroline Luce? I didn't have the middle name "Little" in my records, but I find it that way about half the time.

4) Any info on how Caroline got to Utah? I know she came in 1850 (DUP records), but no info on which company.

I also have a PDF version of "The Genealogy of the Descendants of George Washington Sevey." I saved it when I found it at the online family history archive through Brigham Young University. (Note: I have not been able to access the online version through BYU for a couple months now, though.) Let me know if you want me to send you my saved PDF copy.

My great-grandma was Pearl Sevey, a daughter of George Washington Sevey and Pheobe Melinda Butler.

I have an Enoch Reynolds married to Mary Elizabeth Shakespear. They are 2nd or 3rd cousins. My grandma is Emma Rosella Reynolds born in Panguitch, Utah. Josiah Anderson Reynolds is her father and John Wesley Reynolds and John Wesley Norton are her grandfathers. I also have a nancy Ann Norton married to an Ira Judd. I have a lot of reynolds and Nortons, etc. All Mormon pioneers, etc,. If this all fits, please contact me.

You should check out the following website to be able to view death certificates, and some birth certificates on the archives website for Utah.

Go to http://www.historyresearch.utah.gov/
Then click on the menu option called "Subject Guides"
Select "Death Records"
Then click on the link for Death Records from 1905-1955
Then click on the index link.
Run a search on that page with last name first, first name.
A good majority of these records have a link back to the image of the death certificate.

Her death certificate is listed there(that is of course if this ancestor died January 8 1906) , and yes she was buried in the Cannonville Cemetery. Then I'd reccomend visiting findagrave.com to post her name in the index for this cemetery and request a volunteer to take a picture of her headstone on findagrave.com

I have family (I think) buried in the Antimony Cemetery. It's a long story, but there is some descrepancy on the husbands date of death and where he is buried. There is a headstone for him in Antimony along side his wife, and then there is another headstone for him (alone) back in Indiana where they are from. The death dates are different for him by a few years. Anyone from the area that might be able to shed some light or help me know where to look for information on Jonathan and Jane Brooks Small, I would so appreciate the help. I'm new at this and I'm really not sure where to go from here. Thank you.

Sarah Maraboots is my great-great-great grandmother. My grandfather (her greatgrandson) loves our family history. He sent me a book he put together about Sarah and her husband. In it is says we think (we're not sure) she's buried in Panguitch, in the "Hatch" section, but her grave is not marked. It also says her daughter, Sarah Rhoana, was buried next to her when she died 3 months later. I've checked the utah burial database relentlessly for either Sarah's and had no luck, so they both probably don't have headstones. That would be cool if someone got one for both of them.

She was born 21 Oct 1904, in Widstoe, Utah, to John Richard and Janette Devel Campbell. She married Irving Ammon Johnson, 5 Sep 1923, in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saints Temple. He died 9 May 1978.
Daisie was an active member of the LDS Church and held many positions in her ward. She loved music and handiwork.
Surviving famiy members include three sons, five daughters and a daughter-in-law; Ven D. Johnson, Yerington, NV; Dean I Johnson, Lakeview, OR; Mrs. Robert (Ardis)Evans, Hatch, Utah; Mrs. Horace C. (Jan) Larsen, Renton, WA; Mrs. Donald (Dixie) Munson,, Kerns, Utah; Golden D. Johnson, Cannonville, Utah; Mrs. Edward (Colette) Liddell, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs Gary L.
