Searching for living relatives of Samuel Otterway

Born 1831 in England and died 1914 in Bountiful. He lived most of his adult life in Bountiful and had several daughters; Annie Otterway Ashby Aeschleman, Elizabeth Otterway Brown, Lucy Otterway McDevitt OGrain, Emily Otterway Thoms Sutherland (my great-great grandmother) and Nellie Otterway Heusted.

I have a good deal of info about each of the sisters, but I am attempting to compile research to write a history of the family and I'm hoping to find living relatives that may have additional documentation about the family and that may be able to help solve a few mysteries. I'd love to share all that I have too!

Hi my name is Teri Valdivia, I am the great great granddaughter of Ida Ann Rice Wilcox. I was just going on the net trying to find more information about my grandma and came across your messages. I would really love to find out more from you if I could.... Years back I had been in touch with my cousin Wallace Wilcox up until his death and he informed me about my grandma history.... I don't know who you are in relations to him but I would be interested in talking to you. please contact me at my email (easnuggles@gmail.com) thank you....

Hi,

This is going to be a more difficult question to answer. I found the following:

Dollie Wilson
Born: 24 oct 1901
MAYBe Last Residence: Clearfield, Davis, UT
Died: 1987
Her social sec. # was assigned in California before 1951.
Source: Social Security Death Index

I marked her Last Residence with a MAYBE because the soc. sec. uses that field for multiple purposes. It is not always their last residence.

Her death is too recent to show up in the on-line Utah Death Index.

There isn't an obituary volunteer in Davis Co. at this time.

You can order a copy of her death certificate from Utah Dept. of Health, https://silver.health.utah.gov/deathinfo.html.

This year is the 150th anniversary of LDS Pionner Elizabeth Russell Archibald's immigration to Utah.

Many people in Utah and Idaho are descended from Thomas and Elizabeth (Russell) Archibald. Thomas Archibald died in Scotland but Elizabeth Russell Archibald came to Wellsville with several of her children. Some went to Idaho and some went to Canada.

A family reunion for all descendants of Elizabeth Russell Archibald is being planned for Saturday, Sept 8, 2012 at the Wellsville, Utah bowery by cousin Brandon Sundeen. He is planning games for the younger children, sharing of family history info for the adults, followed by a memorial service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Food is POT LUCK. Bring your own lunch and all will share what they bring.

If you have any family heirlooms, photos, letters, etc.. pertaining to Elizabeth Russell Archibald or her immediate family, please bring them for viewing.

For more details contact Brandon Sundeen. Phone: 503-396-2178 OR email: brandonsundeen@gmail.com

Please help us get the word out. Pass this information on to all of your extended family so that they may attend if they are interested.

It might be hard to locate a volunteer to go to the court to make the original request.

Those records would be maintained by the Clerk of the Court:

Alyson Brown
Davis County - Farmington District Court
800 West State Street
P.O. Box 769
Farmington, UT 84025

Voice: 801-447-3820.

A Divorce is a civil case. They would have a record by the name of the Petitioner (person who instigates the case) against the Respondent (the other party), for EXAMPLE: Frances LaFon (Petitioner) versus George Lafon (Respondent), Dissolution of Marriage, Case Number 27-02345-rbg (only as example).
BUT, neither party had to be in Davis County. The Petitioner could have filed in another County/State where they were living, against the other party, or in absentia.
If you are looking to obtain records, they first have to find the case. Then, due to the age of this one, depending on the manner of record keeping, it could be in hard copy documents, or on microfilm. The clerk would ask what documents you would want or the whole case. Depending on the case, there could be a few filings, or a great deal of them (simple versus fought divorce), there could be documents pertaining to children and their care. The clerk could tell you approximately how many pages and the cost per page. Some Counties do not do the work, most do, almost all charge. Uncertified copies run from a cents to a dollar per page. Certified (you don't need) are more.

I would suggest obtaining the original Petition and the final decree of dissolution. That would probably satisfy your needs.

I wasn't able to find your family on the 1870 census either, but I located some information you may be interested in. I found a death certificate on line through the Family History Library of the LDS Church. The death certificate is for William Varley, and the similarities will amaze you. He was born in England on 11 June 1837, and died on 23 November 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The informant on the death certificate was John Varley. However, the parents of William Varley were not the names you had listed. The parents listed for this William Varley were Abraham Varley, and Maria Baker. The date of burial was also different, the date listed was 25 November 1908. The 1880 census for William Varley lists a son John, age 16, which could be the same person as the informant. John would have been 44 years old at the time of his father's death. The John Varley on the death certificate was living in Woods Cross, Utah at the time. I hope this is helpful. The family were originally silk manufacurers in Aldermanbury London, but became manufacturers of Chlorides up north in the late 1850s.I have information from local papers of a shooting outside the Links Saloon in Salt Lake in which one of the Maddick's sons (BAD BILLY)was arrested on a charge of shooting two soldiers from the neighbouring fort.Father Frederick who was the bartender of the saloon and past the gun to his son whilst he went to get the law, died after a 3 weeks drinking spree in the Commercial Hotel. He left a wife Emma and 8 children at 349 west first south street

thank you

I keep running into these two names and would like some help figuring out whether they're the same person or not. Both are born in 1808, and lived in Plumb Hollow, Iowa. Both are often said to have been born in Virginia or West Virginia. Sometimes James Wesley is said to have been born in Indiana.
If you have either or both in your tree, take a look at the the research that got you to him and reply.

Here are the last clippings I found. They are about the Hardings. There are a couple that are possibly about Gladys when she was still married to Joseph Daniel/Daniels. One is about William S. Harding accidentally shooting a friend. His parents and some cousins are mentioned. Another is about the passing of William Hardings mother.

Here are more clippings from the Pelton family. One article mentions Milo Pelton at a Parrish family reunion. A genealogy commitee for the family was organized and the names of the officers are listed.

I found this marriage record, it was the closest match I could find for Reva's parents. After looking over your data, I am pretty sure this is them. The only thing that doesn't match is the marriage date which is off by one month:

Marriage ID: 614495
Groom's Surname Name: DANIELS
Groom's First Name: Joseph (21)
Bride's Surname Name: BAUM
Bride's First Name: Glady B (16)
Place: Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
Marriage Date: 11 May 1918
County: Salt Lake
State: Utah
Bride's Residence: Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
Groom's Residence: Phillips, Wisconsin
Volume: 75
Page:
Partial Date:
Comment: Certificate # A029655
http://abish.byui.edu/specialCollections/westernStates/Searc...

Re: 1870 census of Allen Frost

thanks for searching for a census of Allen Frost. I know about family search. I see he was married in Bontiful, Utah in 1861, so I thought he would be in the 1860 census from Bontiful, Utah, but he wasn't. I think maybe he had a different first name, and he was apart of the 1860 census in Utah,or he imigrated in 1852, maybe to Illinois where most of the Mormans settled and was apart of that census. Thanks anyway.

JIm

I can't find any Alan/Allan/Allen in the 1860 census in any state who was born in England 1835-1845, whose surname is Frost or anything close.

There is more information on him at http://www.familysearch.org/. Type in his name, birth year of 1838 EXACT and birthplace England. Then click on "Details" for the names of other people researching him.
Hi, that was some good information I wanted. I wonder if Allen Frost was in the 1860 census of Bountiful, Utah. I think if he came to the US in 1852, he would possibly be from the original Morman pioneers from Navoo, Ill., or he would be in the 1860 Utah US Census. What do you think? Thanks again!

Jim

The 1900 census is the earliest census in which you will find an immigration date but you can estimate the year by the age of his first U.S.-born child, in the 1870 census.

1870 Bountiful, Davis, UT, FROST household:
Allen 30 England, Anna 28 England, Alice J. 1 UT, Harrison 4 UT, Allen 6 UT.

In the 1900 census he is in Snowflake, Navajo, Arizona Territory and he said he immigrated in 1852.
