Classification: Obituary
Surnames: Balls, Seamons
LuDean Balls, 82, passed away peacefully after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.
Born April 28, 1923, in Hyde Park, he was the seventh son of eight children born to Maida Maria Seamons and Wilford Balls.
LuDean lived his entire life in Hyde Park. He had many fond memories of moving the cows to and from the pastures down the highway west of town, and many World Series were played with LuDean, his six brothers and the neighbor boys.
During World War II, LuDean served in the Navy Air Corps, from April 1944 until June of 1946. He then returned home to help his mother with the farm, take care of the cattle and play baseball.
In June of 1949, LuDean married the girl that finally melted him down, Wanda Larsen of Newton. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 3, 1949.
LuDean was a lifelong dairy farmer. He worked at Cache Valley Dairy, Cache Meadow Farm and the Utah State University Dairy while he continued to raise his family and to build up his own dairy herd. He owned one of the better registered dairy herds in Utah and built a grade-A dairy where he produced, processed, bottled and sold the raw milk at the dairy in Hyde Park.
LuDean loved to exhibit his cattle at the Richmond Black and White Days, and at the Utah State Fair. His cattle won many awards and he was especially proud of his grand champion bull at the state fair. It was a sad day when he sold his cows and retired. He so loved the animals.
LuDean has served in many church positions over the years and is currently a high priest. He and Mom also served a mission at the Logan Family History Center from 1989 to 1990.
LuDean and Wanda were blessed with four children, Susan (Richard) Hildreth of Green River, Wyo., Larry (Carol) Balls of Jerome, Idaho, Sharon (Gary) Larsen of Millville and Lisa (Jim) Kunsman of Logan. They have 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
Dad, we are so proud of you and the way that you have conducted your life. We will miss you and will celebrate your example of the wonderful life you have lived. We honor you this day.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the many hours of service provided by Dodie LeMieux and the staff from Hospice.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, at the Hyde Park Stake Center, 535 E. 200 South, Hyde Park. Funeral services will begin at noon. Interment will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery.
