His mother was: Mary Rebecca Boshears-Mitchell. One of his brothers worked in the store as well. His name was William Jefferson Mitchell but he died in the mid 1960's.

I do not know how to get this information. I am learning as I go on ancestry.com
My eamil is theduchessofdining@comcast.net

I thank you for reading my email!!

I think it was only the McCaleb family who was in Alabama. The Huffmans were in Garrard Co., Ky before going to Clinton, Ill. where Riley was born. I would love to have a copy of your picture of Riley. Mine was taken from his big portrait. I gave copies from it to several of his grandchildren. I am wondering if it is the same one. My e-mail address is lllight@aol.com. Please contact me.

La Verl Light
I am the great, great granddaughter of Riley Huffman & Rebecca Ellis. My great grandmother, Mary Ann Huffman, was 4 or 5 years old when she watched him leave on a black horse with his black hair bouncing off his shoulders. She said all he left her was his portrait. I have a picture copied from that portrait. I wonder if it is the same one you have. I gave copies to several of his grandchildren years ago. When I visited them they did not know about Rebecca and were shocked when I showed them the picture and marriage record. My e-mail is lllight@aol.com. Contact me.

Texas Historical Crop, Livestock, Ag statistics books -offer

Saved from being tossed in the garbage several Texas reference books left over from an estate sale at a retirement village in Illinois. I personally have no need for these and would donate them to a collection or individual. They are the following, all large format paperback reports:
-1866 - 1984 Texas Historic Crops Statistics Texas Dept of Ag & USDA 108 pg
- 1867- 1985 Texas Historic Livestock Statistics, TDA, USDA 92 pg
includes cattle, sheep, hogs, goats, poultry. Info not by county.
- 1989 Texas Ag statistics TDA USDA, 202 pg with many maps
If an individual wants any, would appreciate reimbursement for postage.
Susan Hopkins

Thank you so much for replying. I am still not sure it is the same person or not. I have been told my ggrandfather Walter Willie Haynes (or Willie Walter)'s father was named Thomas Jefferson Haynes and that W. W. was born in Belton, Bell Co., Texas. That is all I know. I know his birthday was listed as 27 Jun 1881 on his Draft Registration Card.

I have heard that the court house in Belton burned and all the records with it.

I am sorry I don't have more info. This one has had me stumped for years.

Any other information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for replying.

Kim

Hi Kim, I don't know if we are researching the same person, but here is the info on my grandfather. Thomas Jefferson Haynes was born Feb 23, 1882 in Bell County, Ding Dong, Texas, located between Killeen and Florence, Texas, on the family farm. His father was Wm. Parmenas Haynes and his mother was Sara Elizabeth "Sallie" Gould Haynes. Supposedly, Thomas Jefferson fathered a child by a black lady and I am not sure of the date, probably around early 1900's. He was married and began his white family in 1904 or 1905. If this is the same person you are searching for, pleas let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Zoanna Curry

Well, this will most likely be of little help, but here goes.
Prairie Dell is between Austin and Waco. It is only a small spot in the road about 45 miles north of Austin directly on IH35 (the main throughway). If you are going south from Waco, you will find Prairie Dell just south of the small town of Salado. If you are going north from Austin, you will find it just north of the tiny town of Jarrell. It is located on the west side of the highway. There is a small church there. And just recently a pizza placed opened. Someone there may have some info for you.
Good Luck!
V

Old post so not sure there will be any response. My great-great grandmother was Mary Jane McCaleb from Alabama whose father was from Scotland. She married Eli Riley Huffman and had one son Henry Huffman. Family lore has it that Eli Riley was an indian fighter and then a Texas Ranger. Left Alabama in an oxcart after Civil War (not sure if this was both or only Mary Jane's family??) I do have a good picture of Eli Riley Huffman and may have one of Mary Jane. My grandmother, Winnie Wilson, passed away at the age of 88 6 years ago and I am sorry to say I did not write down the stories she passed down.
Andie

That child's family lived near Prarie Dell, Texas. I have been tryin to locate some of the family. I do not know if the child was a male or femaale, only that my grandfather was white and the child's mother was said black. Maybe this information will help with the search.

Is anyone kin to John Northington who was living in Bell County during the 1880 census? He and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Goode, also took care of a couple of children with the name Wright (They were Mary's sister's kids).
I have been looking for the graves of John W. Northington and Mary Elizabeth, as well as her father
Hezekiah Goode. Hezekiah died June 25, 1881 in Bell County. I have not been able to find any of the graves, or a document for their deaths. I am especially interested in finding out about Hezekiah.
The Northington family might have inherited the Goode bible, which would have his death documented. If a bible is found somewhere, I would like to get a photocopy of the family page if possible. Thanks.

I had been told Willie Walter Haynes was born in Bell Co., so yes, that is why I posted it to this list. I have since been told he was born in Polk Co., but have nothing on which to base that other than a cousin's word.

Where ever he was born he moved to Walker Co., by 1900. Yes, I know Willie Walter and Rosa's death dates and burial places. I am sure the death certificate can give me that information, but I am not sure I can obtain the death certificate without going to look for it myself and that is not possible as I live in Virginia.

Yes, I would like a look up for WW birth, death and marriage information if anyone can do that for me.

Thanks
Kim

I did check the census records and found him as you said in Walker Co. as early as 1900. Found that he and wife Rosa are buried at Farris Cemetery in southern Walker Co. He died in 1933 and she in 1955. I noticed you have requested a volunteer to look up their marriage license which should be in 1901.
I would like to ask why you posted a query for Bell county? Do you have information that Walter was born in Bell? I did pull up his WW I draft registration card and it only gives his birthday as June 27, 1881 but not the place.
It is possible that his death certificate might yield the place in Texas where he was born and also the parents' names. If you wish, I can put you on my list to look it up next time I'm at my local library.
