I am trying to find more on John David and his wife Beatrice. Maybe we can help each other. It seems to be a well hidden family line. Our family stories claim it is Native and Freedmen(Slaves who were freed)
Scott Collin

I want to say THANK YOU!! I was positive that this Mary did not belong to my family, even though I would welcome cousins searching the same line. It looks like Mary L. has found the right connections. Now if I could get more information on my Mary (who I think is really Mary E), it would be wonderful. My father said that thought that she died young and did not marry. My grandmother was Emma (Emily) of the family in Missouri. Thanks again.

James Frederick GREEN, d. 5 July 1892 (Donley Co Constable-Former Ranger)

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 5 July 1892 Donley County Constable James F. GREEN and Cattle Inspector G.B. (Bingham) GRISSOM were killed in a shootout with Bob BELL in Clarendon, Donley County. While the newspaper reported all three men were buried locally, the place of burial has not been located. GRISSOM was buried in the Bolivar Cemetery in Denton County. I am searching for GREEN's place of burial and any surviving family members.

James Frederick GREEN was elected Constable for Precinct 2 in Donley County on November 4, 1890. The newspaper reported that GREEN had been a lawman in Clarendon for 5 years and a ranger and lawmen for a total of 16 years. It was also reported that he had killed a black man six weeks earlier in Clarendon while attempting to arrest him. He was reportedly born in Georgia. The newspaper reported age 36 at death which makes year of birth 1856 but ranger service records show age 22 in 1881 which means year of birth as 1859. The 1880 U.S. Federal Census reported Fred J. Green; Precinct 1, Callahan, Texas,; Age: 21; Estimated Birth Year: about 1859

The Texas State Archives reported records consisting of payment for service records from 1882-1887, under both Capt. G. W. Arrington and Capt. S. H. McMurry. He was in Co. G with Arrington and Co. B with McMurry. In addition a muster record was located:

Name: J. F. Green
Rank: Private
Comm. Off: Capt. G. W. Arrington
Organ: Front. Bat. Co. C
Date enlist: Mar 1, 1881
Date disch: Aug 31, 1882
Age: 22 Height: 6'
Descrip: Dark Hair, Brown Eyes, Dark Complexion
Place Birth: Georgia
Occup: Farmer
Remarks: 1 year, 6 months service
Inform Source: Photostat: Orig in A.G. office
Hi There, According to what I have been told Walter Alvin Belk is probably the son of Noble Ellis Belk and Mary Etta
Whitney Holcomb. She was my great Grandmother. She was married first to my great grandfather. Next she married Belk and apparently had 4 children by him to add to the 4 she had by my g-Grandfather. Next she married a W.H. Morris and had 4 more sons by him. she must have been a busy lady! Walter Alvin was born 11 Apr 1886 Cornhill, Tx and died 3 Feb 1950 Tom Green Co. Tx. One sorce lists his siblings as Lucy Belk....Etta Belk b: 1892 Tx ....Myrtle Lucille Belk b: 1894 Tx..... There is other info if interested email me a cnjm@juno.com

I tried finding Francis Centers on the Soc Sec Dth Idx. Nothing for 2002. Do you know where she died and where she was living when she died?

Are you sure her first name was spelled Francis? Usually the female version of the name is spelled Frances. I tried it both ways, still nothing. If we can find a record of her Soc Sec you can obtain a copy of her application and back when she filled out that application she may have remembered more about when and where she was born, or names of her parents.

Do you have any idea of about when she was born? There are a couple of James Hulletts on the SSDI and one might be the one you want. One was born 1895, the other in 1907.

Happy Hunting (^_^)

She did not remember the town she was from so I could not find out about my great grandparents or rest of family. James Hullett is my wife's fatheer but he laeft when she was born actually he was inprison in texas at birth and when her mom put her for adoption he was notified. He wanted to stop it but could not since he was in prison at least that is what we were told. He might have been from Mississippi and a native american but we dont know for sure

Not yet. I am having a problem with Sarah's maiden name. On her marriage cert from Nacogdoches, Texas 7 March 1897 she is Miss. Sallie Roberts and with her son's Milton amended birth cert she is Sarah Hancock. Sarah had several children prior to marrying my great-grandfather Will Alexander (Otto, Amanda, Annie, Louise and their father is listed as Simon Linthecum). Attended a genealogy lock-in at the Waco Library on 10/30/2009 and I was told that Simon Linthicum could be the father of Sarah and that I should be looking in the Rusk Area and Nacogdoches, Texas for records. At this time, I am not sure. Sarah stated on the 1930 census that she was married at the age of 20 for the first time. With his information on Sarah, I would appreicate if someone would check if any marriage licenses for sarah (except William Alexander) are available in the Rusk and Nacogdoches, Texas. I can be reached at the following email plt@hot.rr.com Thanks!

I found her!!!
She and her family lived in Anderson County texas from the 1850 till 1870's where they moved close to the dallas area.

Her mother name is Lurena from Tennessee (1822) and her fathers name is Samuel S Green from Alabama (1828). Samuel drops off the census in 1870 and I suspected that he may have died in the Civil War. However Lurena only states she is single on the census following his "disappearance" and not widowed...how odd!

Confirmed family link finding her son WS Henlee and her brother William H Green living in the same household in Oklahoma in 1900.

Any one linking themselves with this family?

I am still looking for confirmation of marriage Della Green (1855). Texas and William Henslee(1858) b. AR in the dallas area approx 1865-1870.

My Great Grandmother is Emma Nora White Johanson who was born in Bastrop county back around 1890. My grandmother wont speak of her family and my father doesnt remember much of the dates of her birth or death. when she was about ten or so she moved to Eckert in Gillispie County. Does anyone know anything more of a White family who has been historically from Bastrop county since the 1800s?

I have quite a bit of info on Wheeler's line, let me know if I can help you.
As far as the McClendon's, do this, google T.B. McClendon, then go to Thomas Burton " Tom " McClendon by Arnold and Moberly Family Genealogy. It should be on the first page.
There are pics of him and Malinda and a pretty good history,or you can e-mail me at rummy@ptd.net,and I will send a link
Vern

What is the best way to find records on African Americans prior to the civil war? I have Nelson Levias who was born in 1843 and his father who was born in 1820. The census on his father Levi Levias says that he was from Mississippi, his mother was from Georgia (I think) and his dad was from Virginia. What is the best way to find his father in records? Or is there a best way?

You are correct about his parents. What are you referring to when you mention the informant was mrs. Gertrude Minatra-wife. What was she the informant on? Anna Minatra was my grandmother. I think one of here sisters was George E Colliers mother. That is where I am stuck. Thank you so much for responding to me.

It's very confusing! There are several letters on Mr. Williams' tree from Odie Minatra to George Collier. Best "guesstimate": Clarence Odie Minatra (9 Oct 1887 - 10 Apr 1949). Parents were James David Minatra and Betty Jane Garrett of Giles, TN. The informant was Mrs. Gertrude Minatra-wife. Surname "Garrett", again! In addition to Ellis and Victoria Counties, the Minatra/Minatre/Minatree/Minatrea/Menatree/Minitree family was also in Navarro County. The surname has so many variations, DNA is needed to prove kinship?

Looking for information on the family of William G. WALKER b: 17 Aug 1813 in TN. d: 20 Oct 1873 in Collin Co., TX. Parents are unknown at this time. m: abt 1834 (place unknown at this time) to Mary Polly (McALISTER) dau. of David and Mary Molly (NALL) McALISTER. Mary Polly (McAlister) WALKER was b: abt 1819 in TN. William and Mary WALKER had nine children: Elizabeth A., Asa W., John Franklin, Julia E., George A., Harriett J., James D., Joseph H. and Martha D. WALKER. William G. WALKER was my gr-gr-grandfather. I have no information on William G. WALKER’s siblings or parents. This family has become my brickwall. Some researchers feel that William WALKER might be connected to the WALKER’s in Mississippi. Specifically to Isaac Newton WALKER b: 1780 NC and Jeremiah W. WALKER b: 1794 GA. Some say that William G. WALKER's fathers name might have been James Asa WALKER. I wish to correspond with others researching this WALKER line. It was a corporate owned ranch. Later they started selling off the land. The XIT no longer exists.

I'm sorry, I mistakenly said Mary Louise Lunsford was found in 1860 census. It is the 1870 district 5, Tunica, MS census which shows Caroline "Lumford", Margaret, "Louisa" age 7, John "Russell Davis age 17, and a Sarah Fox (unknown)

I have been communicating with the granddaughter (Elizabeth) of John Russell Davis who has been very helpful with this info. She has traveled to Mississippi several times looking up records. She resides in Texas. Her family records show Edward Franklin Davis died 1854, the same year son John Russel Davis was born (1854)
Edward F. Davis married Jane Caroline Glasscock 28 Sept. 1839 Phillips Co Arkansas, so she it seems was quite young.
Caroline, married Augustin R. Lunsford in 1855. Yes, you are correct, Augustin was previously married to a Rebecca, with child Nancy. Don't know what happened to them.
Record of Lunsford descendants show that Mary Lou's mom died when she was 12, she then went to live with a "Dora Vandever (Vandiver). Dora was born Madora Gillock. The "Gillock" family was supposedly well known for taking in orphans and strays! Madora's mother was Nancy "Applegate" Gillock. Madora was wife #2 of John Vandiver!
Dora Vandiver was in Delta Co, Texas by 1887 and Mary Louise was in next county (Lamar) by 1889, and then Delta Co where she married Hugh Arthur West 18 oct 1893. Hugh Died in Hopkins Co Tx 12-12-1904. Mary Louise ended up in Oklahoma. I wish we knew more about Hugh, all I know is he was born 1853 illinois. Their daughter Eva Louise West was my grandma! Hugh West married Martha E. Tucker in Saline Co Arkansas in 1874. 1870 census shows Hugh in Texas. Family story is Martha Tucker West died in a tornado near Norman, Ok. It's said Hugh had a sister named Emy Snyder who lived near Norman! Thanks for all the information, I hope I have helped. Bobby

This is the wrong lunsford family I believe! The Mary Louise Lunsford who married Adolphus Groves, & Hugh Arthur West, was born in Mississippi, not Missouri! We have recently found out her father was Augustin R. Lunsford who married Jane "Caroline" Glasscock Aug 30th, 1855 Coahoma Co, MS, marriage book A #98. Her parents split up when she was 9 months old. Mary Louise is found in 1860 Coahoma Co MS census as "Louisa" age 7, with sister Margaret "Mattie" & mother Caroline!
Caroline's #1 marriage was to Edward Franklin Davis. Their son "Rus" or John Russell Davis was Mary L's 1/2 brother. I hope this helps!
