My great-grandfather, John C. Reynolds, owned land in Yoakum Co. at the time he died in 1947. Don't know when purchased, but it was jointly owned with others. He retained mineral rights, which have passed on through the REYNOLDS, then BENHAM family to me. Anyone out there in Yoakum Co. have any idea how to research that?

Robert Luico Fillingim (1903-1988) was the son of Adolphus Theodore Fillingim and Mary Elizabeth Dyess Fillingim. He was the youngest of their children. He was married to Ruth Cotten, daughter of Arthur L. Cotten. At last report some of the Fillingim descendants were living in Burleson, Texas. Robert was the younger brother of my aunt by marriage, Rosa May Fillingim Anderson (1900-1999) of Levelland, Tx. From personal interview and included in the book Yoakum County from Sod to 1986, p 102.

Who was Cora Fillingim to your brother in law?? Who was Roberts parents names if you don't mind finding out. Most Fillingims in this country are related as we all came from the same Grandfather as he was an early settler. Cora was a name past down to our family...Cora/Cornia. My Great Grandmother was Lilly Viola Fillingim-Hoover. Ask him if the family lived in Alabama before moving to Texas. There are many Fillingims in Texas and all over the USA!

My brother-in-law is Carel Jesse Fillingim, he resides in Burleson Texas. I believe his parents were Robert and Ruth Fillingim. Ruth's maiden name was Cotten. They lived in Iredell Texas until Roberts death and then Ruth moved to Burleson until her recent death. Carel has two daughters, Tammi and Deana. Deana has a son named Colt. Carel had six brothers and sisters. Buck, Doris, Mickey, Darrell and I am not sure of the other names.

J.B., Isaac H., Pauline, Harold R, Hildred & Mildred. They are in the 1930 Yoakum Co. Sensus. They were originally from Comanche Co., TX. Frederick Newby's parents are William Harris Newby & Mary Jane "Mollie" Carter. 4 of his siblings are buried in the Proctor Cemetery, Comanche Co., TX

Bekah, here's a list of the children of Arthur and Annie Leslie Cotten, listed in order of their birth:
Pearl Frances; W.B.; Lorena; Martha Belle (Mattie); Lucile; Paul; Cora; Arthur Lowell "Bud"; Ruth; Kathleen; Annie Dell; and James Donald. Their birth years range from 1898 to 1919. I believe Ruth, Kathleen, Annie Dell, and James Donald are the ones still living. They had a family reunion in Midland earlier this year, and are planning another next year I hear.

My grandmother Cora Cotten was the first non-Native American baby to be born in Yoakum Co. Her parents were Arthur Cotten and Annie Leslie Poland (she grew up in Coleman Co.). Arthur brought a teacher out to their ranch to teach his kids. My grandmother was too young but cried enough that she got to go to the school. Her siblings include Mattie, Ruth, Cathleen (Tina), Donald, Pearl, W.B.. Seems like there's one other.

As I remember the story, they first lived in a dug-out home.

I am looking for any information on the death of my great-grandfather Archie Lee Hix. Some say he was murdered some say he committed suicied. He died Sept 11, 1952. He was married to Tina Faye Patterson. She later married George Sorrell. Anyways, I am also wandering on how to get a hold of an old news paper from the time Archie died. I just want to read about it if there was anything written or hear someones story. Anything will help. My grandma was only in the 8th grade when it happened and doesn't remember much about since it was a traumatic time in her life. Thanks for any response. Annie

I`m looking for the burial site of James Polk Long and any information I can find about him and his wife, Betty (Hunter). Some time before 1905, they moved to Plains, Yoakum Co. He is listed in the 1910 census of Yoakum Co. He was a farmer, a teacher and a politician, serving as county treasurer of Yoakum Co. My records show that he died in Yoakum Co. and was buried there. That would indicate that he was probably buried in the cemetery at Plains but I can`t find a list of burials in the cemetery there. Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking to further my information on my Cousin Walter V. Bowden & Cousin-in-Law Hattie Pearl -?- Bowden. For their youngest children I have gotten to the point where Ancestry is not a lot of help for they are with their parents in the 1930 census, so please excuse my lack of information in this area.

Walter V. Bowden was born August 1869 DeKalb County, Georgia to Walter T. & Amanda SPRAYBERRY South Bowden & died 10 November 1938 he married Hattie Pearl -?- sometime before 1893. Hattie Pearl was born February 1875 in Georgia & died 22 July 1949, both died in Terry County, Texas.

Walter & Pearl's children were:
Annie J. Bowden born February 1893 DeKalb County, Georgia
Mandey Lou B. Bowden born November 1894 DeKalb County, Georgia
Walter T. Bowden born April 1897 DeKalb County, Georgia
M. E. O. Bowden born December 1898 DeKalb County, Georgia
Bessie born about 1907 Hopkins County, Texas
Faugh Bowden born about 1908 Hopkins County, Texas
Charley Bowden born about 1910 Hopkins County, Texas
Cleburn Lewis Bowden born 1913 Hopkins County, Texas died 1962
J. E. Bowden born about 1918 (believe J. E. is for Walter Sr.'s brother James England Bowden)

All the daughters are out of the house by 1930 but I cannot find marriage records for them, Faugh, Cleburn & J. E. are still living with Walter & Pearl in 1930 Yoakum County, Texas now.

I also have not been able to find any information on the male cousins as far censuses unless they were with their parents or death records.

Any help with Cousin Walter & Cousin-in-Law Pearl's family will be greatly appreciated & I will gladly share the information I have gathered thus far.

Seek information on descendants of Mollie Mary D. White Beal (b. abt 1855 in Texas - d/o Elijah and Juliet Jones White), originally of Milam County, Texas. Mollie married Alsey A. (Allen ?) Beal (Beall ?) - born in Texas abt 1852- he likely being the son of John F. Beal and Mary A. Beal.

After leaving Milam County, Alsey A. Beal and Mary Mollie Beal apparently lived in Falls County, Texas, Mitchell County, Texas, and Yoakum County, Texas. Some of their children may have later moved to Dona Ana County, New Mexico.

Alsey A. Beal and Mary Mollie Beal may have had a son named Roy Beal. Census records show that they had at least the following six children:
1- Elijah L. Beal (b. abt 1875)
2- Joseph Beal (b. abt 1877)
3- Pearl Beal (b. March of 1879)
4- D. R. Beal (b. July of 1888)
5- Berniece Beal (b. December of 1890)
6- Zelma Beal (b. May of 1892)

Boarding House in Yoakum Co. c. 1908

Is anyone aware of a boarding house called "W.L. Hardin's Boarding House" located anywhere in Yoakum Co. c. 1908? A photo of my grandfather, Rex McCrary, was taken at this boarding house in 1908 which could have been shot in Plains, Yoakum Co., while visiting his brother, Joe McCrary, who was enumerated on the 1910 Yoakum Co. census, Precinct 2.

There are a number of other unidentified individuals in this photo which I would be happy to share with other researchers.
