Seeking information concerning the family of John W. Strawn Sr. b. 1824 in TN and wife Olive b.1842 in IL (m. 1878 in IL) were reportedly in Wise Co, TX sometime between 1880 and 1900. He and wife had probably moved to Wise Co. from Erath Co. but I have no documentation. His son John W. Jr. b. 1849 in GA. moved to Erath Co and married Mary M. Butchee b. 1865 in MS in/around Chalk Mtn TX in 1896. John Sr. had moved his family to TX from Elk Co KS sometime after the 1880 Census. John Jr. moved his family to Beckham Co. OK in 1900. John Sr evidently moved to Beckham Co, OK as his death is reported there in 1904.

I have obtained funeral records for Sarah Ann (Howard Teague d.1931, her husband Oscar Fitzallen Teague d.1925, & their son Martin Frank Teague d.1926, all buried in Minerly or Minerely Cemetery, as it was spelled at least these two ways on the records. They lived in Decatur, but I am unable to find any mention of this cemetery on the Wise County site or by Google. It is a mystery. Oscar's record states Minerly near the Drop, so maybe this describes a drop in the land that was called the Drop?
If anyone has any information as to at least the location of this cemetery &/or a list of names interred there, please email me at:
jeffsouthall@cox.net
I am searching for family information on my great, great grandfather JOHN TEAGUE (b.30 JAN 1823, North Carolina; d.18 JAN 1904, Crowell, Foard Co., Texas). He married Mary Polly Anderson on 4 JAN 1844, in Atlanta, GA; moved to MO shortly after the marriage, where five children were born:
William Logan (b.16 AUG 1847, d.31 MAY 1916); George Washington (b.1850, d.1926); Sallie Ann (b.1851, d.1915); Henry Groten (b.26 DEC 1854, d.6 FEB 1920); and Mary Jane (b.1855, d.1933). The TEAGUE Family lived in Wise County from approximately 1860 until 1885, when they moved to Foard County, Texas. There is apparently a Teague Cemetary in Wise Co., located between Rhome and Newark. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
I cannot locate him in the TXDI, nor in any of Wise County early death records, though he is in Funeral Home Records listing. They lived in Decatur. They married abt. 1861, either in TX or MO, as they were in TX early Civil War, went back to MO between 1869-1870, then returned by 1900, settling in Decatur bet. 1900-1910. Their children (some b.MO) were Florence, Mary B., William T., Charles E., Robert, Martin Frank (also cannot locate in TXDI but is in Funeral home record listing), Missouri, Ann, Peter O., George Harrison, James Monroe, & Joseph Walter. Records from Martin on down are in Wise County, extending to Tarrant County for death info.
If anyone has any info on this family, including obits, birth info, tree info, pics, etc., would very much like to share. The Wise County, TXGenWeb site is one of THE best I have seen for online records so far, & I've been researching for years. It couldn't have found this much without it!

I am seeking information on Katie Belle Blevins. She is buried in the Paradise Cemetary and passed away 1974. I am trying to find out if she was the second wife of my ggrandfather Steve Decatur Blevins of Bridgeport. He passed away 1959. I don't have access to 1940 or 1950 census for Wise County and I think that she would be living with him in Bridgeport during these years. His first wife, Rebecca passed away 1933. Any help would be appreciated.

Wayne Blevins
Austin, Texas

After which Ann Married Mr. Easley they had one son George Easley. Mr. Easley later married Ida Fischer. I am looking for any and all information on the Cox North family. Would love to find someone who might have photos of this family. I'm thinking someone in the Easley family might have photos or information on the Cox family. I do know that at time before living in Paradise. The TF Cox family also lived in Balasora. TF Cox and Anemiarh (Ann) are both buried in Paradise.
Thanks for your help!
Judy

Daniel BOONE Family Photographs

I have been working to identify a BOONE family picture since about 1990 and have finally made some progress. It came because I received a picture from a descendant of Josephine BOONE b.1876, TX.

The new picture is the one identified as Daniel and Margaret BOONE Family about 1900. Identfied are Back Row: Ida Ann, Victoria, Daniel Webster, William Penn Front Row: Josphine Adusta, Daniel, Margaret and Sunset.

Comparing the other picture Boone Family, I can now identify:
Back Row first on left: Daniel Webster BOONE b.1869, TX
Back Row Third from Right: Margaret (PAINE) BOONE b.1845, IL
Middle Row first from left: Sunset BOONE b.1883, TX
Middle Row first on Right: Daniel BOONE b.1841, IN

I'm guessing that the older lady in the center with the hat might be Julia Ann (BOONE) PACE b.1843, IN. She is a sister of Daniel BOONE and married Thomas D. PACE. My wife is a g.g.granddaughter of Julia Ann BOONE and this would explain why her family had the photograph.

Daniel BOONE and Julia Ann BOONE were children of John BOON b.1806, VA and Abigail LESH b.1811, OH.

Daniel BOONE and his family are listed in the 1870 census of Denton Co, TX and the 1880 and 1910 censuses of Wise Co, TX. John BOON and his family are listed in the 1840 and 1850 censuses of Wabash Co, IN.

Appreciate any assistance in identifying the others in this photograph.

Burkburnett Cemetery and Owens and Brumley Funeral Records for Burk are now online!

I am posting this on this board because many people moved from Wise Co. to Wichita Co. and surrounding counties.

Rebecca Lucier needed a project for her Gold Star Girl Scouts Badges which is the equivalent to a Boy Scouts Eagle Badge. She, with the help of her mother Diane set out to survey the Burkburnett Cemetery.
This turned into a bigger project then they expected! Not only did they survey the Burk Cemetery which is now online at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/wichita/wichtoc.htm but they also were able to borrow the Funeral Home Records from Owens and Brumley in Burkburnett and scan the actual Funeral Records. The master index is online here http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/wichita/funeral/owen...

Then while they were working on all of this, they discovered an unknown African American Cemetery in Burkburnett called "Journey's End" and were instrumental in getting it mowed and cleaned up and found proof of many, many burials at the cemetery that were in unmarked graves.

Diane and Rebecca are leaving Wichita Falls this week. Diane's husband was stationed here at Sheppard Air Force Base and they are retiring to Idaho. I just want to thank both of them for ALL of the hours and hours of work that they did for the community while they were here.

Diane has left me with DVD's of the actual Funeral Records. These records are similar to a death certificate and have birth and death dates and in many cases if the family knows, the name of the deceased's parents. If, after locating your ancestor on the master list at the link above, you would like a copy of the actual funeral record, please e mail me at neatstuffgifts@aol.com and I will be happy to send it to you. Julie

Here are the links again

Funeral Home Records

http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/wichita/funeral/owen...

Burkburnett Cemetery

http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/wichita/wichtoc.htm
He is listed in the 1880 and 1910 censuses of Wise Co, TX.
This picture was with the descendants of his sister, Julia Ann Boone, and was identified as the Boone family. It is most likely it is this Daniel Boone family, but the identities of those in the photo are unknown. Appreciate any help in identifying those in the photo.

My great aunt Ruby Fay Allmon Moody lived in Paradise for many years and died in the Decatur hospital in June 1995. She had no children. Her husband, Jess Frank Moody, had a son by his first marriage. Both Aunt Ruby and Jess are buried in Mount Olivet in Fort Worth.

Aunt Ruby had about 6 very large portraits of her grandparents and great-grandparents....who are my great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. I have tried for several years to find what happened to those portraits.

By chance, would anyone have any clues? Know Jess Frank Moody's son, know anyone local who might have handled an estate sale, know of antique dealers who might be a resource?

I know this is a long-shot...but any help is appreciated.

Carol

Hello,
I am trying to find information about a relative and his family. His name was Ernest F V Chester (also known as Bob). He married a Glennie Leonard in 1908 in Wise County, and they had three daughters ( I think!) Charlotte, Carnestine and Annabelle born between about 1911 and 1926. Glennie died in 1932 in Wise County.
What happened to the family ? I understand they were in Spearman, Hansford County in the 1930 census.
Any information on this missing family link would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Howard

GREEN(E) HELP

I am looking for information on a L.B. Green(e) based on the 1880 Eastland Co., Tx census who married a N.C.LNU. L.B. was born about 1844 in Tn and his wife was born about 1845 in Al. The census stated that they had three children; F.L. c1870, M.M. c1874, and M.O. c1877.

I have been looking for the parents of a Minnie Mae(May) Green born July 7, 1875 in Texas died July 7, 1915 in Boyd, Wise Co., Tx. She married a Dr. William Crawford Huddleston. I have had no luck with finding any information on Minnie in Wise County so I used an alternate spelling of her last name and came across this census in Eastland County, which isn't far from Wise. I found Minnie in a 1910 Census with her husband in Wise County, Tx and it states that her parents were born in Tn and Al.

Does anyone have any info on this family. I believe this L.B. Green(e) is Leonidas Bluford Green(e) born Febuary 10, 1844 in Roane Co., Tn. He was the son of Austin Letheridge Greene (1811-1903) Roane County clerk and Cordelia "Delia" Crow (1815-1849). Married a Calisty LNU. This Leonidas had a daughter named Minnie born very close to the time the Minnie I am searching for was.

Please help

Thanks,
Leslie

Hi all, I am doing some research for a fellow. I can trace his line back to 1880 Wise Co, the John W. Harvey family. Further back, however, in 1870, I can't find them anywhere. He is found in 1860 in Saline Co, Ar tho with his parents and family. It looks like he married about 1875 or so to Margaret A. ? possibly McLain?. I am looking for sources that can verify when they came to Wise Co, where they were in 1870, and where they are buried. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Kay Bensuk
Houston, TX

I am looking for information on my great aunt Maggie Josephine WALKER (nee Gilcrease) and her husband James Walker. Almost all I know is the information from her death certificate, for which her husband James Walker was the informant.

At the time of her death in 1966, they were living on Route #1, Paradise, Wise County, Texas. She was a Cook and Cafe Operator, though she had cancer from 1963-1966 so I don't know when/ if she would have quit that job before her death.

She was born in Cherokee County in 1912, but I do not know when she married James, or when they moved to Wise County. Maybe he was from there.

While my main interest is information on Maggie, I would like to know more about James (other than just his name) and his immediate family also. I also don't know if Maggie & James had children.

Thanks for any information, no matter how small it may seem. Thanks!

KC

My grandmother was born Ella Marie Fisher on June 21, 1917 in Big Stone Gap, Va. She passed away July 1978 in Kingsport, Tn.
My grandmother had 5 daughter (my mother was one of the younger ones) and moved to Kingsport when my aunts were very young. Throughout my grandmother's lifetime she never talked about her family, my mother's and aunts' father(s), siblings or anything pertaining to her past.
When my grandmother passed away, my mother discovered she had aunts but didn't attempt to know them.
As she's gotten older she's developed medical problems that are considered genetic(heart problems, diabetes, etc.) and, with my 31st birthday fast approaching as well as my children growing, I am trying to find someone who may have some info one my grandmother's family for medical as well as personal reasons.
I would love to connect with someone who can shed some light on this part of my genealogy.
Any help, hints, etc will be much appreciated.

Michael Lovell
I finally found where Winnie Elizabeth Mahaffey Hasket Mann Buckhannon married her Buchanan husband. The marriage occurred in Jack Co., TX on 20 Jun 1877. W. H. Buchannan married W. E. Hasket. So now, might anyone know the given names of W. H. Buchannan? He may have died or divorced Winnie Elizabeth before the 1880 census, when she was enumerated living with her son John Thomas Hasket on the 1880 Wise Co., TX census. Since Winnie Elizabeth married Mr. Buchanon using the surname Hasket, that brings up the question of her marriage to Jacob Mann, which occurred between 1860 and 1870. Did Jacob Mann die, or did he and Winnie Elizabeth divorce? Questions, questions. I thought I looked through the Jack County, Texas marriage records five years ago!

OLD PHOTOGRAPH RESCUED

I have rescued an old postcard type photograph of a young girl and a man standing on a porch. I suspect this photo was taken in the very early 1900's. The name on the back of the photo is "Miss Cordie Willson" and it also says Paradise, Tex.
I cannot tell if the photo is of "Cordie Willson" or if this was a postcard sent to her. But, it is an interesting photo and may be a find for somebody. I rescue old photos and try to return them to their families. If Cordie Willson is your family, or you are interested in this photo, please contact me privately at: jmje36@aol.com. Thank you, Judy in TX
It is said she came to Texas prior to it being divided into counties and staked a claim with her brother in what is now Ellis County. Any help would be appreciated.

Identifying Men in Bridge Photograph (1870-1890)
Hi everyone.

I am hoping someone interested in the history of Wise County may be able to help me identify a photograph and possibly the men in the photograph. I believe the photograph is from the late 1870s to the late 1880's.

The photograph was in a trunk belonging to my 2nd Great Grandfather, Samuel Young. I believe he may be one of the men in the photograph.

He lived in Denton County from 1850 to the early or mid 1870s, living north of Denton in the Clear Creek/Gribble Springs community.

After leaving Denton, he moved to Wise County. I know he lived somwhere in the western portion of the county, somewhere between Chico and East Mound (south of Bridgeport).

Around 1883, he moved to eastern Jack County, living south of Cundiff and north of the West Fork of the Trinity.

I suspect the photograph was taken in the late 1870's or early 1880's. The bridge is wooden timbers on brick pilings. There are twelve men in the photograph. I think it is Wise County, but can't be for sure.

On the website below, you can see the bridge, a closeup of the group of men and closeups of each of the men's faces. If you can identify any of then men or the bridge, I would be so gateful.

The website is http://www.rowden.net/norm/bridge

Thanks for your ideas or suggestions.

Norman Lewis

Tring to find unknown gggrandfather. This maybe a needle in the hay stack but I want to try.
The Marcus L D Higgins (b1846) family moved to Wise Co. around 1876, Precint 4. Wife Martha Jane Harvey (b 1848)
They had 5 children at that time and 2 more born in Wise Co.
Mary Bell Higgins (b 1869) Is the one in question. Spring of 1888 she had a sweetheart (the unknown) and when she told him she was going to have a baby, he left for parts unknown. Marcus then went to a neighbor and paid him to marry Mary Bell. This was Louis Butler. The child was born 2 Dec 1888 in Collin Co. Big family secret that looks like everyone knew. The Higgins family soon moved to Collin Co. to. Other family names from Wise Co. are: Honeycut, McLain, Copland, Thompson, Wallas, Swink, Thomason, Shankle, Smith, Aylon & Messel.
I have a picture of the Louis Butler family 1905, Mary Bell was quite a beauty.
1. picture Butler family 2. Marcus & Martha Higgins
Any ideas would be helpful, Thanks

Donna Boliver

King was born (1853)in Tennessee and Martha (Matthews) King was born (1855) in Illinois. They were living in Wise Co. in 1880 and 1910. Martha died in 1930 in Beckham Co., Oklahoma (again no death certificate) and is buried in Carter Cemetery there along with several of her children that migrated there from Wise Co. I am trying to find parents for George and Martha and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in a Freeman Family who moved from Hutton Township, Coles County, Illinois to Wise County, Texas. A Widow, Mary Freeman, born about 1799/1800 in Kentucky is listed in the 1850 Hutton Township Census with the following children: Simeon, Milton, Manuel, Minus, and Edna, all born between about 1831/2 to about 1839/40 in Indiana and Illinois. Simeon married 29 Dec. 1852 in Coles County, IL Susan Ingram. Milton married 29 Oct. 1859 in Coles County, IL Barbara Coon and Edna married 6 Jan. 1858 in Coles County, IL William Coon. Barbara and William Coon were children of Michael "Red Mike" Coon and his wife, Sarah (Welty) Coon. Evidently Simeon, Milton, and Edna all moved to Wise County, Texas and had families. Would appreciate any data on these people. Thank you

Adair marriage lookup?

I wasn't sure whom to ask about a lookup so I'll ask here.

My ADAIR kin are from Alvord, Wise County and I found my grandmother and three of her sisters in the Wise County Genweb marriage pages. I've also found them in the 1900 census for Wise County, but I'm unable to read the name of the mother of this tribe. Also, I have no idea what the father's name is either. It appears he died before the 1900 census was taken. So what I'm really after is to see if any of these marriage notices have information about my grandmother's parents, like their names. Here's what I have:

ADAIR, Miss Alice, married RAILEY, G.E., 8 Dec 1906, Book 6, Page 91
ADAIR, Miss Ethel, married WALLACE, Charles, 2 Jan 09, Book 6, Page 406
ADAIR, Miss Mollie, married PRINGLE, V. T., 6 Nov 09, Book 6, Page 496
ADAIR, Miss Ollie, married MORELAND, Louis, 24 Jul 04, Book 5, Page 282

I also found a male named ADAIR in the Wise County Genweb pages who is about the right age to be the father of these girls. This is also from the Groom list of the marriage records.

ADAIR, William, married RIDDLE, M. E., 4 Feb. 1883, Book 1, Page 137

Maybe someone with experience and tell me if these marriage documents usually have information about the bride or groom's parents. Anyone know?

Thank you in advance.

Ray Foster

I am searching for descendants of Paul Schneider and his daughter Josephine. Josephine married John Hoefle and they lived in Windthorst, TX. They had children named Martin, Catherine, Mary, John P. and Clara. Martin and John were pharmacists.

I am interested in copies of old family pictures of Paul and brothers Andrew and Franz Xaver Schneider who immigrated from Furschenbach, Germany in 1880s. My grandfather Frank Xavier Schneider may be Paul's brother. Any help would be appreciated. Email me at kathysig1@insightbb.com.
