Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Dock Sterling Osborne's father is my Paternal GG Grandfather, Abijah Allen "Bidge" Osborne. After Dock's death in 1893, Nellie married John T Shelton. Her headstone is in Crews Cemetery in Winters, Runnels, Texas with family from both marriages. Nellie and Dock's son, Miles Sydney Osborne and his wife Lillie Gertrude are in this cemetery. Miles and Nellie have 2 daughters here, Effie Gertrude (Osborne) McNeely and Selma Louise Osborne. Nellie has 2 sons by her 2nd marriage, Odies Selba Shelton and his wife Clara Etta and their daughter,Lorene Shelton. Nellie's other son, Joe Dare Shelton.

This should get you there.
Type Shelton or Osborne where it asks for last name.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=18...;

Fabulous! Thank you for pointing those out. I don't mind you poking around at all, especially when you've been so helpful :)

I found a wedding invitation for Frankie Cochran and Raymond Hill in a collection of correspondence at my father's house. I've been focused primarily on the Woods line recently, but it's always nice to fill in a few empty spaces elsewhere.

I'm still not convinced I've got the Paine/Payne line correct, but I'm slowly chipping away at it!

Thank you again for the assistance.

Mary Rose Woods death certificate online https://familysearch.org/ (22 Feb 1863 - 15 Feb 1947). Parents: Henry Bates Rose (6 Mar 1825 - 18 May 1905) and Matilda (Paine) Rose (31 Jan 1832 - 14 Jan 1911). Per 1900 census, Rev Henry B. Rose/Matilda were parents of five surviving children. Including Mary, all four daughters have online death certificates. Did not search for son, Henry born ca. 1859. Henry B. Rose wed Matilda F. Paine, 23 Apr 1856 in Rockbridge, VA.

I'm a direct descendent of William Loraine Woods and his second wife, Mary Emma Rose.

My line went from them through Matilda Catherine Woods (m. John Edward Hall Sr.) to Henry Palm Hall (m. Bessie Marie Wells) to Charles Henry Hall (m. Lana Sue Hard) to me.

I seem to have run into a wall trying to trace further back through Mary Emma Rose. I know her grandfather was Robert Paine and he served in the 27th Virginia, Company A in the Civil War, but I have not yet found her parents.

Thank you, Monica. I really appreciate that. I knew your great grandmother, Mittilene Blackburn. She and my grandfather, Clarence A. Russell were brother and sister. I believe that Louisa was their grandmother and that they were children of her daughter, Eunice. I would love to see your pictures, too. I am guessing that you are Carroll's granddaughter. I think I saw you once when you were a baby. Is your mother Carolyn? She may or may not remember me. I knew your grandfather Carroll also. My father was H. C. (Huey Clifton).

My grandfather was very close to his sister Mittilene and his brother-in-law Othello. We saw them often when I was growing up. We moved to Decatur when I was 10, and still they visited as much as possible. Your great grandmother was such a fun-loving person. It was always neat to see her. I also have communicated with Kerry Russell. I am so glad to reconnect with you. I visited with Russ Dobbs (Lanora's son) recently. I scanned some pictures for him. If you would send me your e-mail address to cathyfothergill@hotmail.com, I will send them to you. We may have some of the same pictures. So glad to meet you online. Cathy

I am so glad that you returned to see my message. The only information that I have on Louisa Baldwin and John Landrum is from what Mittilene, Louisa's daughter, my great grandmother, wrote in a Russell Genealogy that I found in my grandfather's things. I will scan it into the computer and post it so you can see it. I have a ton of pictures, but I don't know many of the names of the people in them. Maybe you would. I have also talked and shared family information with one of Eunice's sons, Nugent's son Kerry. He would be delighted to know you. Please feel free to look at my tree, under Gray Family Tree or Monica Gray. Talk to you later.

I am looking for the father of John Henry Sides of Talladega,Alabama. 1823-1914. I think he married Nancy A. Berry. There seems to be 2 of them both married to a Nancy. One is in Clay County and one in Talladega County. They seem to be getting mixed up in the families on line. Does anyone know about this family in the early 1800's

Meaning no disrepect to you or your ancestors! Family history, written or oral, needs supporting documentation! You have Patrick's WWI Draft registration in Sacramento on 12 Sep 1918. You also have Thekla's death 1920 Sacramento. Then you have a 1920 census of Philadelphia for Patrick. Something is amiss thus my earlier comments to validate research. He returned to Pennsylvania the year his wife died? Too, a quick lookup revealed at least five siblings remained in Texas. What year did Patrick settle in California?

According to the family bible of Francis McBrearty and Elizabeth Jameson, Patrick was born in s. Heberton, Pa on March 31,1877. There are ww1 draft records for someone with his birthdate according to Sacramento County, Ca rolls. I also found a marriage listed for him to Marie M cClary in Classen, Ca on August 1'1922. His parents are listed as Francis McBrearty and Elizabeth Jameson, my great grandparents.
He died in Sacramento on May 1, 1938.

The family bible also tracks the family from Penn to Missouri in August, 1877, and to Texas ( Palestine, Taylor, and San Antonio).

Recommend you validate info on that family tree. Per documentation, Patrick was in 1920 Pennsylvania. Untrue, he, Thekla, Anna, and William found 1920 CA-Sacramento-Sacramento Assembly District 15-District 128-Image 30. Too the comments by Bob Clements on 19 Oct 1999 are worthy of note. Patrick's birthplace and parents need additional research.

Patrick McBrearty, born 31 March 1877, married to Thekla Penshorn was my husband's grandfather. I would love any information you have on this family line. I am also on Ancestry.com but don't know how to access your information on the same site.

Hello. I'm the mother of two of your Uncle John's grandchildren. I've been working on the Whitehead branch of their family tree. I never met John Whitehead but I do keep in touch with one of your cousins. I've given her your name and email address. If you contact me through the Ancestry message system I'll give you her name and email address.

My name is Franklin Wayne Whitehead. My dad was Austin Franklin Whitehead. John Crawford Whitehead was his brother and my uncle. George Jefferson Lee Whitehead was my grand father and ADa was my grandmother.

My dad's last sibling, Aurthur Dell Whitehead who passed away a few years ago gave me several volumes of 3 ring binders that have a lot of information on the Moses T. Whitehead line. I can not get any further back than Moses but I do want to go back as far as I possibly can. I would be glad to share and trade information.

 Hi!

I would greatly appreciate anyone doing an obituary look up for my great grandfather Carl Gustaf Carlson and his son Frans Oskar Carlson. Both emigrated from Sweden to Round Rock in July 1890. They are both deceased by the June 4, 1900 Census. So any mention of their deaths should appear between July 1890 and June 1900, probably in Georgetown.

The 1900 Census shows the remainder of the family alive and the wife a widow. The surviving family members were widow Anna Charlotta Carlson (listed in the 1900 Census as "Lotta"), and sons Gustaf Theodore and John August all living together in Georgetown.

Any information or leads that can be passed along are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Randy Carlson
Thank You! I appreciate the information. I'm in the awkward situation of living in Austin less than 20 miles away. But I don't have a car and we don't have public transportation linking us to Georgetown yet. Once I have a car, I know the church the Swedhins went to, and that's probably the same one my Carlson ancestors attended.

Thank you again for your time and effort!

Randy

Death info will be difficult! Texas mandated vital records effective 1903. From daily genealogical search, there are people (not many) who died in 1980s and there are no official records. There were several Swedish Immigrants in 1900 Williamson County. Perhaps most attended the same church? That's where I'd look!

 Thank you very very much!!!

The new (for me) 1900 Census information explains a lot. Right beneath the Carlsons are the Rydstrands. Alfred Rydstrand married Blenda Swedhin, and Gustaf later married Lillian Sophia Swedhin. I'd always wondered how Gustaf and Lillian met. They were either neighbors, or they met through the Rydstrands.

It means a lot to me to finally know where my American Carlson ancestors were in 1900. I can't thank you enough.

Now the challenge is finding out how and where Carl Gustaf and his son Frans Oskar died. It was probably somewhere in that vicinity, and they're probably buried nearby. Any information and leads are greatly appreciated.

Thank you again so much for the information you've provided!

Randy Carlson

Gus registered for WWI Draft in Smith County, TX. Birth listed as 29 Apr 1879 in contrast to 1878 found on 1900 TX-Williamson-Precinct 1-District 122-Image 5 census. Lotta Carlson(61) was widowed with Gus(22) and John(19). Recommend posting in Galveston County for obits: Alton and Modestine Carlson. Be sure to include dates and "known" possible survivors.

You've found Gus' marriage to Lillie. Did you also find the birth of their son, Alton Lamar, 22 Jun 1918? Unable to assist with the family's history in the Travis County area. (I prefer Travis over surrounding counties 'cause it has the State Capitol at Austin.) Anyway, 1920 TX-Smith-Tyler Ward 3-District 82-Image 18 has Gus T. Carlson(39?), Lillie(38), and Alton L.(1 7/12). Gus immigrated in 1890 and was naturalized in 1900. Next, G. T. Carlson(51) and Alton(11) found 1930 AZ-Cochise-Douglas-District 33-Image 20. Alton married Modestine Minatra and they had Alton Benton, David Minatra, and Randolph Lamar. Birthdates listed Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997. SSDI Alton Lamar Carlson (22 Jun 1918 - Sep 1986) received last benefits in La Marque, Galveston County. Modestine Carlson also expired, 14 Mar 1980, in Galveston.

 Hi!

I'm looking for information about the family of Carl Gustaf Carlson. They immigrated from Sweden with their destination listed as Round Rock, Texas, on August 8, 1890. The family included his wife Anna Charlotta; sons Frans Oscar, Gustaf Theodore, and John August Jelmar Carlson. I haven't found any of them in either the 1890 or 1900 Census.

So far I haven't been able to find any records of the family having arrived in Round Rock. In some genealogical work Carl Gustaf Carlson and Frans Oscar Carlson are both listed as having died in Texas in June 1900. No details were given.

Gustaf Theodore Carlson next appears in 1911 Georgetown when he marries Lillian Sophia Swedhin. So far I haven't found him in the 1910 Census. In the 1910 Census, Anna Charlotta Carlson and her son John August Jelmar Carlson appear in Kandiyohi, Minnesota.

I'm looking for any information on the Carlson family in Round Rock and Williamson County between 1890 and 1910. I'm especially curious about any information about accidents or otherwise in June 1900 that might have accounted for the death of Carl and his son Frans.

Carl Gustaf Carlson is my grandfather and I'm trying to solve a few mysteries in the family genealogy. Any help is deeply deeply appreciated. At the moment, I've hit a brick wall in my work.

Thanks!

Randy Carlson
