Thank you for posting this. Margaret was my great-aunt. My father's mother, Susie (sometimes Susan) Elizabeth Deen (sometimes Dean) was among her sisters. My grandmother moved to California in the 20's but as a child I remember my father's "Texas aunts" coming to visit from time to time.

JAMES WILLIAM PARKER & FAMILY

I am still searching for any information related to James William Parker. He is the son of Caleb Isaac Parker and Elizabeth Sanders. My line goes like this: George Parker-Caleb Isaac Parker-James William Parker-Isaac Miller Parker-Will Davis Parker-Anna Marie Sherrin (Parker)-Denise Patricia Sherrin. I believe Chesley P. Parker of Van Zandt county is also James' brother. This Parker line started in Virginia (George & Caleb), then Tennesse, then Texas. Most of my Parker family lived in Van Zandt County after the 1860's. If any one could share some info with me, I would greatly appreciate it. I seem to hit stumps all over the place with my genealogy of the Parker line.

Not related! Simply trying to help! You'll find Alpine, mostly misidentified, at the census references in my earlier message. James William Arthus' death certificate (26 Sep 1890 - 11 Dec 1961) was witnessed by their daughter: Mrs. L. B. (Liga Burton) Wilbanks aka Gladys Lucile Arthus. FMI? Was Alpine her middle name?

Oh my word, all the work you did. Thank you so much for all the information. The one I needed was found in the Abe L Lindsey and Margaret L Laymance in Hill County. They were right under my nose just 15 miles away. Again, I thank you and appreciate it so much.

I have the information that you are seeking. It is extensive so contact me at bill-lewis@sbcglobal.net. I will be in Brownsboro till Monday or Tuesday without internet.

I have been to Old Rock Hill and it is a tough get to, it took me almost 2 years to get lined up to gain access it is behind a locked gate and there are two washed out places on the "Road" the route is not marked and it can be confusing. It is grown up and there is a lot of poison ivy.

Bill
I was looking for a "Dan" and Nancy who would be approximate age of Henry C Harris Sr and from Georgia.

I am curious as to Henry Sr's. connection to Gray Harris. Was he the grandfather or a great uncle born NC appx 1805 reported to have died in the fall of 1880 in Muscogee county ?

Henry C Sr's wife's half brother and half sister Franklin Pierce Miller and Emma Miller McCutheon Roberts died in Columbia, Muscogee Co GA in mid 1920's. Virginia's maiden name was Clark/Clarke and first husband was Henry Miller. I found their death records on the Pilot Search website. Franklin was born in Richmond VA 1851 per his death certificate.

In this research I also found that Ophelia Ann Harris born in Muscogee county in 1858, daughter of Gray Harris and second or possibly third ? wife Elizabeth King married a Parsons in 1881 and arrived in Lamar county Texas around 1882 and died there in 1948. Another sister a year or two older "Lou" also married a Parsons and died in Lamar county as well.

You can use the "freefind" search engine for Van Zandt county website, Texas Genweb, to look for possible cemetery records. This is an excellent website, most cemeteries are transcribed.
http://www.txgenweb3.org/txvanzandt/

Paula -

Texas death certificates 1890 - 1976 and Alabama Statewide Deaths 1908 - 1974 and Georgia Deaths 1914-1927.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0

Unable to find Henry Curtis Harris Sr with a sibling named Dan or Daniel. I could not pinpoint Henry C Harris until 1900 census.

I find Daniel's with wives listed as Nancy in Missouri in 1900 census; Daniel W with Nancy E Harris in South Carolina and Daniel T Harris with Nancy L Harris in Pumpkin Vine, Paulding Co, GA who were in same location in 1910. Daniel C Harris with Nancy A Harris in Wilmar, Drew Co AR.

This is using the FamilySearch website which would find variations of Dan and Nancy. . . Nanny, etc.

I used the FamilySearch pilot website and could not find a Dan or Daniel Harris who died in Texas that was born in Alabama or Georgia.

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0

Henry Curtis Harris Sr, railroad engineer, was born in Georgia Sept 1868 married Ella May Jackson from Girard, Russell Co AL in 1892, Henry Curtis Jr was born in Alabama 19 June 1897 and Walter Gray Harris Sept 1899 in Alabama, Katherine F Harris born AL 1903. Walter Gray Harris died before 1910 census and Mary Elizabeth Harris was born in GA, Muscogee Co? 1908. Henry and Ella had two children who died before 1900 census and presume they were born before Henry Curtis Jr.

Henry C Harris died in Fulton Co GA 1943 age 75 and Ella M Harris in Fulton Co GA in 1947 age 75.

Still did not solve the mystery of "Dan" Harris.

Ella's mother, Virginia unknown, born in Virginia circa 1832, first married a Miller and was found in Muscogee Co GA in 1860 with three Miller children. I assume Virginia Miller married Mr. Jackson in Muscogee county then had Thomas Jackson in GA; Grace and Ella May Jackson in AL.

Name: Henry C Harris
Death Date: 20 Nov 1943
County of Death: Fulton
Gender: M (Male)
Race: White
Age: 75 years
Certificate: 246??9
Georgia Deaths 1919 - 1998; Ancestry.com

Name: Ella M Harris
Death Date: 22 Mar 1947
County of Death: Fulton
Gender: F (Female)
Race: White
Age: 75 years
County of Residence: Fulton
Certificate: 5277

Henry Curtis Harris Jr born 19 June 1897 registered WW I Draft Atlanta Fulton Co GA, was pipe fitter for Railroad, mother Mrs. H C Harris, 315 Lucile Ave nearest relative

1930, Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia District 100 page 105
Henry C Harris 1869 GA
Ella M Harris 1873
Laurice/Lawrence T Wallace 27 27 June 1902 GA son in law died 31 Mar 1976 Atlanta, Fulton lived in DeKalb county
Katherine F HARRIS Wallace 27 dtr
Lawrence T Wallace 5 grandson 26 Apr 1925 - 20 Apr 1991 Clayton Co GA ss issued GA before 1951
Herndon Key Wallace 2 11/12 grandson 10 Sept 1927 died 10 Mar 2001 last residence Idaho Falls, Bonneville Idaho ss issued GA before 1951
Charles Marler 41 1889 GA son in law
May E HARRIS Marler 22 dtr

Name: Herndon Key Wallace
Service Info.: CMSGT US ARMY VIETNAM
Birth Date: 10 Sep 1927
Death Date: 10 Mar 2001
Cemetery: Ammon Cemetery
Cemetery Address: Idaho Falls, ID 83406
Enlisted 21 Nov 1945 Fulton Co GA, Fort McPherson Atlanta Field Artillery

1930, Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia
Henry Harris 33 Alabama ? 03 Aug 1897 died Dec 1985 Atlanta, Fulton
Susie Harris 28 1902
Johnnie Harris 7 1923
Marshall Harris 10 10 Oct 1919 - 02 Oct 1980 Atlanta, Fulton
Betty Ann Harris 5 1925
Catherine Harris 2 1928

1920, Atlanta Ward 7, Fulton, Georgia
Henry C Harris 51 GA GA GA owned home 315 Lucile Ave, engineer steam railroad
Ella M Harris 46 AL GA VA
Henry C Harris 21 AL machinist steam railroad
Katherine F Harris 17 AL
Elizabeth Harris 11 GA

26 April 1910; Census Place: Columbus Ward 5, Muscogee, Georgia; Roll T624_205; Page: 9A; Enumeration District: 103; Image: 834.
Henry C Harris 41 1869 Georgia married 18 years parents GA railroad engineer
Ella M Harris 37 1873 Alabama BORE 5 children 3 CHILDREN LIVING father GA mother VA
Henry C Harris Jr 12 1898 Alabama
Katherine F Harris 7 1903 Alabama
Mary E Harris 1 5/12 1908 Georgia

13 June 1900; Census Place: Girard, Russell, Alabama; Roll T623_38; Page: 17A; Enumeration District: 140.
Virginia Jackson head of household age 68 born Feb 1832 Virginia widow bore 8 children, 6 children living
C Horis Henry, listed as son, age 31 [Henry Curtis Harris Sr] birthdate listed Sept 1878, should be 1868, married in 1892 father born Georgia mother unknown locomotive engineer
Ella May JACKSON Harris listed as dtr in law age 27 born June 1872 Alabama bore three children two children living father GA mother Virginia
Henry Curtis Harris age 2 born June 1897 Alabama listed as son in law
Walter Gray Harris age 9/12 born Sept 1899 Alabama listed as son in law
R H McCutchen age 18 grandson born May 1882 Alabama parents GA - Robert H McCutchan married Juanita Mathews dtr of Enoch and Mary M Mathews, found in inlaw's household in Girard in 1910.
I am not related.

Amanda Oliver found in Hopkins county in 1860 with Louisa Oliver born NC. They had another sister Virginia Ann Oliver born TX 1856 - 1857 listed with a Fowler family in Hopkins Co in 1860 and 1870. Amanda and Virgnia are Louisa's half sisters.

I found no "Louisa" Oliver in 1850 census born abt 1847, there were two one born 1845 and 1850 found in 1850 census.

Virginia Ann Oliver married William A Liner in Hopkins county and had several children including twins Nora/Norine and Cora in 1892. These two girls wound up in household of Amanda Oliver Goodwin in Falls County 1910 census listed as nieces.

Amanda Oliver went to Milam county with the Ford's and about 1878 married Benjamin F Goodwin of Alabama. They had no surviving children, Ben Goodwin died before 1910. Amanda Goodwin died in McLennan county in 1930 and Mrs. Harry Garrison was informant who was Nora/Norine Liner. See below death certificate showing parents were James D Oliver and Ava Page of NC .

Public member family trees has thirteen listings regarding James David Oliver and Ava Page and their two daughters Amanda Catherine and Virginia Ann Oliver Liner who died in Pickton, Hopkins Co 28 June 1903.

The Oliver's appear to be from Robeson Co NC where Allen Ford married Amanda Faulk. Public family trees says Louisa Marie Oliver born 10 Jan 1846 NC was dtr of James David Oliver and Nancy Floyd. She remarried 08 Jan 1874 in Hopkins Co to Calvin Cobb White she died in Waco, McLennan Co 28 Nov 1929, Mrs. B T "Goodman/Goodwin", Waco informant, buried in Rosebud. You will find her death certificate. Marriage is from someones research from family trees and Mrs. B T Goodwin was Amanda C White Goodwin her daughter.

1880; Census Place: Jones Prairie, Milam, Texas; Roll T9_1319; Family History Film: 1255319; Page: 191.2000; Enumeration District: 101;
Calvin C.
You have the right family. They were from Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia and were there on a visit in 1904. Gray Harris may and I say may have been the son of Herbert/Harbert Harris of Franklin County, N.C. as that is where he can be found in a estate sale. He moved into Putnam County, Georgia some time in the 1830's. He married a Nancy Fuller and they had several children including Andrew Jackson (JACK) Harris who was the father of Henry C. Harris. Gray was married three times and had children by the third wife. He married Elizabeth King Snelling the second wife. The children from the third wife moved into Texas. Gray died a Jones Crossing S.W. Railroad in 1880 but his grave is unknown. It would be located in Chattahoochee County, Georgia and probably is on the Ft.Benning reserve.
I sure that I could find his grave. Caroline Parham was his third wife. Elizabeth King had three girls by Gray Harris. The sisters married the same man, after one of the girls died. Gray had no children by Caroline Parsons. As you know there is a book on the family printed a couple of years ago compiled by Rev.James WIlliam Dupree and Kenneth H. Thomas, JR. It is called ANCESTOR AND DESCENDANTS OF JOEL KING (1750-1822/1827)
It has a lot the Dubose and Harris genealogy but like every genealogy has some missing and that is where I am to trying to tie Dan Harris in. Are you from the Parson line? You mentioned the Miller line. Henry Harris married Ella May Jackson and her mother was Virginia Ann Frances Clark Miller Jackson. Henry Miller was killed in Georgia when a train ran into a bridge at a creek where the river was over running the banks causing the bridge to fall. He was the Engineer of the train. Should you see any Harris families in on of those Texas counties in and around Grand Saline I would appreciate the information on them.
Paul

You did find a lot of the family and you have the right family but DAN and NANCY HARRIS were born in Franklin County, N.C. --some time in the 1820's. Henry C. Harris was a train engineer and took a trip to Texas to visit the Blair and other families there who were kin. His son Henry C. Jr. worked for the R.R. also as a repairman for the trains.
It is a mystery that DAN HARRIS was in Grand Saline and then just vanished after 1904.I guess he could have died but there is no trace of Nancy either. I do appreciate your help in trying to find them. I suppose he could have moved to another state as well.
In 1904 HENRY HARRIS with his family left Muscogee County, Georgia via train for Van Zandt County, Texas. At the station in Grand Saline, Tx. he was met by Dan and Nancy Harris whom he spent the night with in Grand Saline. He then went and spent time with the Woods and Blair family. The journal stated whom they stayed with and to whom they went hunting with and the other towns in the area that they visited. They
even stated about the weather and fishing in the area. I have never found Dan Harris in Van Zandt County, Texas much less in Grand Saline.
Paul Wright

Are your guns smoking? I have a lot of the family already accounted for but you definitely opened up a whole new "bag of worms" to sort through! I've used the FamilySearch many times in the past but for some reason I didn't in this case. Memory isn't as sharp as it used to be I guess. Many thanks for the input and I'll hit the FamilySearch again before I post to the message board.

I didn't think she had divorced John Wesley but then again...I haven't really dug too deep. There are a lotf of surprises I've discovered over the past 12 years of research.

Well, I had the right first and last name, right birth-state, but wrong person in Alonzo McLemore. There's a "bunch" of folks with that surname! I like to focus on the "living" so I chose Percy Joe McLemore 'cause he has several births registered in Van Zandt County. His parents were Richard Elman McLemore (4 Apr 1891 - 27 Jul 1959) and Nannie (Linnerman) McLemore (6 Mar 1891 - 14 Apr 1957). His paternal grandparents were Alvin Alonzo McLemore (29 Jul 1865[AL] - 13 Dec 1899) and Leona Elvira (Johnson) McLemore-Johnson (30 Dec 1871 - 24 Feb 1941).

Were there unrelated McLemore families in Van Zandt County? Richard Elman McLemore (4 Apr 1891 - 27 Jul 1959) lived in Jim Wells County but died in Van Zandt. Parents identified as Lonzo McLemore and Leonia Linnerman by Mrs. Travis Teel. Mrs Teel was his daughter, Ruby E. born about 1913. I think Lonzo/Elonzo/Alonzo was the son of James J. McLemore and Mary J. Parvin of Alabama? Find this couple with children in 1880 MS-Chickasaw-Not Stated-District 32-Page 16. Evidently Alonzo was the only member of this family who settled in Van Zandt County, TX? Find widowed Leona McLemore with children in 1900 Van Zandt-Precinct 8-District 137-Page 8. She, Leona, must have died prior to 1910? Son, Argel A. McLemore (18 Nov 1894) registered for WWI Draft in Carter County, OK. His brother, Calvin (6 May 1896) registered in Canadian County, OK. Is this family connected to John Simpson McLemore?

Okay! In 1870 TX-Guadalupe-Precinct 4-Page 9 find, K. J. McLemore(60), Nancy(33), R. I.(20), Sarah(14), Robert(12), Emaley[sp](8), Adeline(5), and Rose (11/12). Did not find Rev. N. H. McLemore's 1870-family! In 1880 TX-Van Zandt-Not Stated-District 120-Pages 3 and 4 find J. S. McLemore(22), Milbra H.(20), and Adah B.(1). First cousin[?] Robt H. McLemore(33) and family can be found in TX-Kaufman-Terrell-District 37-Page 11. The other family members were Caroline(39), Edward(5), Mary A.(3), Nicholus[sp](5/12), his sister Laura Sullivan(360, and niece Eliza J. Beaumont(10). Pause! A pedigree viewable at familysearch.org has Robert H. McLemore born 1847 in Tennessee and died 28 Jul 1899 in Spring Hill, Maury, TN? Perhaps it was someone with the same name but different parentage? Texas Death certificate for the son of N. H. McLemore and Jane Simpson is viewable online. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start In 1900 Van Zandt-Precinct 1-District 126-Page 5 fin John McLemore(42), Milbrey(40), Henry W.(16), John V.(9) Vuia[Eunice?] M.(6), Myrter[sp] J.(2), and Sherody B.(5/12). Robert H. McLemore's(53) family can be found in Dallas-Dallas Ward 9-District 118-Page 6. Others were: Caroline(49), Edward E.(25), Mary A.(23), Robt H.(20), Nicholas A.(17), Paul(13), and Wm S.(11). Methinks Nicholas' age is correct? The first son with that name, born in Feb 1880, probably died and the name was given to his sibling? That happened in my family! In 1910 Van Zandt-Precinct 1-District 105-Page 1, find John D.[?] McLemore(52), Millna[sp](49), John V.(19), Unie M.(16), Myrtie J.(12), and Sherody T.(10). Robert H. McLemore's(63) clan can be found in Dallas-Dallas Ward 3-District 34-Page 10. Others were: Caroline(59), Mary Alice(33), Nicholas A.(26), Paul(22), and William S.(20). In 1920 Van Zandt-Precinct 3-District 127-Page 32 find Milbrey McLemore(59), Virgil[John V.](28), and Sherdie[sp](20). Per familysearch.org, John Simpson McLemore died in 1911. 1920 Dallas-Dallas-Precinct 8 is where to find Robert H. McLemore(73), Carrie(69), Mamie(42), and Nickolas[sp] A.(37). I ceased the census-trace at this point. Robert H. McLemore (11 Sep 1846[MS] - 27 Jul 1928[Dallas]). parents identified as N. H. McLemore and Jane Simpson of Tennessee by N. A. [Nicholas A.] McLemore. Caroline McLemore (2 Jun 1850[LA] - 26 Mar 1923[Dallas]). parents identified as Antone Steve and T. Meyers of Germany by Mrs. E. E. [Edward E.] McLemore. Milbrey H. McLemore (19 May 1860[LA] - 30 Sep 1931[Van Zandt]). Parents identified as Chas. McDougal and Rebecca Cook by J. V.[John Virgil] McLemore. Trust there are not many grammatical errors? My fingers and eyes are both tired!

An abundance of information is available for research on this family. Because of the limited response, over eight years, I choose to answer via this medium. I am not related but monitor Texas' Community Bulletin Boards. The Family History Library records indicate John Simpson McLemore wed Milbrey Harrington McDougal 22 Jul 1878 in Van Zandt County, TX. Additional records indicate his parents were Kerney McLemore and Rebecca Gore. Confirmation of his parentage can be found on death certificate of A. W.[Albert Wilson] McLemore (20 Jan 1873 - 3 May 1942). Methinks A. W. was perhaps the baby of the family? Born in Bossier Parish, LA, he settled in Van Zandt County and registered for WWI Draft. Albert's 1880-census would complete my search of this family, 1850-1930? John Simpson McLemore? Don't know about that nom de plume? The son born in 1857 was identified as "Rob J." in 1860 and "Robert" in 1870? Nonetheless, begin searching 1850 LA-Sabine-Not Stated-Pages 78 and 79. Find K. J. McLemore(41), Rebecca(30), Wright(15), Lucretia(10), Amanda(9), Felix(6), Thaddeus(4), and Rebecca(1). Next door lived the family of Nicolas McLemore(39). Methinks Nicolas and Kerney/Kearney were brothers? Kearney's family included: Jane(31), Sterling(14), Evaline(11), William(10), Jas(8), Laura(5), Robt(4), and Chas(1). If they were not brothers, I have expended a lot of effort for nothing? In 1860, Rev. N. H. Mclemore's(47) family was still in Sabine parish, LA-Not Stated-Page 99. Others in the household were: Mrs. McLemore(42), James(19), Laura(17), Robert(13), Richard(11), and Martha(9). 1860 TX-Bee-Papalote-Pages 1 and 2 is where to find K. J. Mclamore(50), Nancy J.(23), Felix H.(16), Thadeus R.(14), Rebecca E.(11), Margaret F.(8), Rob J.(3), and Emily M.(8/12). Pause at this point to explain my search! I chose Robert from Nicolas' family and Robert aka John Simpson from Kearney's.
