Searching for family members of the John R. C. Henderson (once sheriff of Van Zandt) and Mahala "Mahalie" Moore family of Canton, Texas.

John R. C. was born in 1825 in Monroe County, Tn. parents Mastin Henderson and Elizabeth Coltharp.
John was murdered in about 1867 or 1868 in Canton. He was shot through his living room window.

Mahala was born about 1828 in Tennessee, daughter of James E. and Cynthia Moore. She died in 1870 of consumption.

Perry M. b: 1856
James P. b: 1860
Mary Ann b: 1861
John R. C. Jr. b: 1864
Abraham Lincoln b: 1866

Any help on this family and the circumstances of their lives will be appreciated.

There is a reprint of an article written by J.P. HENDERSON recounting his visit to his "old home town" of Canton. All of the surnames I listed above are mentioned in this article.

You can found the reprint in the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society's publication "Our Heritage". It is Volume 20, Number 2 from May 1999. You can order a copy of it from them. If you can not do that I could copy the article to an email and send it to you. I also have a few other back issues that I could check for your family members.

Looking for information on James and E. Johnana Colthorp of Van Zandt County Texas. One of their daughters was Mary Cavendar Colthorp born 1848. If anyone can help with info I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Sorry, I have not researched the Coltharps other than noting that no Coltharps appear in the census in 1860-1870-1880 in Van Zandt County, Texas. I have copies of these years, and would be happy to look up any names for you.
I can also put you in contact with a John RC Henderson / Mahala Moore descendant of their son Perry Henderson. It appears now that John was shot through his living room window by a member of the KKK.
If you can help me with the family group of Mastin Henderson and Elizabeth Coltharp I would be eternally grateful.
