Frances C. Burda, 91, of Brownfield passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 in Brownfield. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 4 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Father Gerald Leatham officiating.

Frances was born on Dec. 3, 1917 in Bremond to Frank and Janie O'Lexy. She married Floyd Stanley Burda in 1935 in Bremond. They moved to Brownfield in 1950. Together they owned and operated Fair Department Store in Brownfield for over 25 years. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son, Dr. Christopher Burda in 2008.

Frances is survived by her son, Don Burda and his wife Dovie of Brownfield; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Margaret Horner, 89, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 in Brownfield.

A graveside service was held Nov. 3 at Terry County Cemetery with Pastor Mark A. Jones officiating. Personal services are under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.

Mrs. Horner was born Dec. 22, 1919 to Robert O’Neal and Maggie Curry in Cement, Okla. Margaret married Willie Horner on Dec. 31, 1938 in Morton. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2001. She was an accounting clerk for KCBD-Channel 11 and worked for the Lubbock AJ in the circulation department. She was a Methodist.

She is survived by one son, Terry Horner and wife Melinda of McKinney; and two daughters, Rebecca Faye Sansom with husband Freeman of Brownfield and Barbara Warden with husband Steve of Georgetown. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both parents, five brothers, two sisters, and one infant son, Billy Bob, in 1942.

Juanita Morin, 70, of Brownfield passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in Lubbock.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Oct. 31 at Brownfield Church of Christ with Marcelino Banda officiating. Interment followed in Brownfield Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Juanita was born on Feb. 6, 1939 in Hobson to Andres and Concepcion Molina. She married Trinidad Morin, Jr. on March 17, 1956. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1997. She was also preceded by her brothers, Santiago Molina and Jose Molina.
Juanita was a member of Brownfield Church of Christ.

Juanita is survived by her two sons, Eddie Morin and his wife Helen of Brownfield and Ernie Morin and his wife Nickie of Lubbock; two daughters, Elsa Flores and her husband Epifanio of Brownfield and Becky Hernandez and her husband Martin of Brownfield; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; her brother, Ray Molina of Brownfield; three sisters, Eulalia Garcia and her husband Orlando of Brownfield, Dominga Reyna and her husband Jimmy of Goodland, Kan., and Nora Molina of Lubbock.

Estelle Miller, 87, of Brownfield passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Stan McNiel and Rev. Clarence Branch officiating.

Estelle was born on July 4, 1922 in Haskell County to Clyde and Bertha McNiel. She moved to Brownfield with her family in the 1930s. She married William Oliver Miller on January 18, 1944 in Lovington, N.M. He preceded her in death May 6, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her son, Damon Miller. Estelle was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Estelle is survived by her daughter, Marietta Sooter and her husband Phil of Lubbock; her grandson, Shawn Sooter of Lubbock; her granddaughter, Kim Chitwood and her husband Jim of Henderson, Nev.; two step-granddaughters, Brigette Taylor and her husband David of Lubbock and Shockey Nail and her husband Ronnie of Blackwell; six great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her brother, R.R. "Pete" McNiel.

The family suggests memorials to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or VistaCare Hospice.

Lydia Sartain, 53, of Brownfield passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2009 in Brownfield. She was born Sept. 5, 1956 in Brownfield to Robert Clyde and Vona Rae Chambliss. She graduated from Brownfield High School. She was an emergency management technician in Brownfield for four years. Lydia was a member of Brownfield First Christian Church.

Lydia is survived by her parents; two daughters, Tiffani Long and husband Kevan of Cibolo and Courtney Sartain of Lubbock; a sister, Dianna Walker of Forsan.

Shannon Carol Devine, 58, of Brownfield passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Brownfield. Services were held Oct. 19 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Click officiating.

Shannon was born on April 30, 1951 in Amarillo to Martin and Florence Devine. She graduated from Magnolia High School in Anaheim, Calif. She moved to Brownfield in 1989, where she continued her career as the Director of Respiratory Therapy at Brownfield Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her father.

Shannon is survived by her mother, Florence Devine of Chandler, Ariz.; her daughter, Kelly Fetzko and her husband Robert of Johnstown, Pa.; two sons, Wally Devine and Miles Devine of Brownfield; three grandchildren, Kailey, Roman and Rocco Fetzko of Johnstown, Pa., and her brother Dan Devine and his wife Linda of Gilbert, Ariz.

Larry D. Fisher, 51 of Beaumont, formerly of Brownfield, passed away last week.

Larry was born Sept. 12, 1958 to the parentage of Mary and Melvin Fisher in Cameron. Larry leaves to cherish precious memories his mother, Mary Fisher; father, Melvin Fisher; two children, Nick Dever and Larry Dever; five brothers, Alfred Fisher, Melvin Fisher, Ronald Fisher, Tommy Fisher and Gary Fisher; three sisters, Jannifer Randle, Minnie Cleveland, and Michelle Fisher; three step-sisters; one step-brother; four grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct 17 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Brownfield. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Brownfield under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations were held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct 16 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church.

Clover Matt Barton Chambers, 88, of Brownfield passed lovingly into the arms of God on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at her home.
Services were held Oct. 9 at First Baptist Church in Brownfield.

Interment followed in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Clover was born on December 28, 1920 in Oklaunion, Texas to Thomas Matt and Ruth Johnson Barton. She attended schools in Union, graduating in 1936.

She married Clevis Chambers on Dec. 19, 1939 in Terry County. Clover was a longtime member of First Baptist Church.

Clover is survived by her husband, Clevis Chambers of Brownfield; three sons, Buster Chambers and his wife Nancy of Morton, Jimmy Chambers and his wife Becky of Brownfield and Dr. Ron Chambers of Savoy, Illinois; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Johnnie McCutcheon of Brownfield and Toybell Herring of Seminole; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Those who welcomed her home are her parents; her brother, Elvoyd Barton; two sisters, Robbie Hulse and Wanda Smith and her great grandson Dylan Thomas.

Oneida was born on June 14, 1922 in Brownfield to Jasper and Osie Proctor. She attended schools in Brownfield. She married Pate F. Collier on Oct. 5, 1946 in Brownfield. Together they owned and operated Pate's Mobile Service Station. She was a lifelong member of Brownfield Church of Christ.

Oneida is survived by her husband Pate Collier of Brownfield; her son, Coleman Collier and his wife Cheryl of Krugerville; her daughter, Claudette Schultz of Brownfield; three grandchildren and three great granchildren.

Ima Jean Pendergrass, 77, of Brownfield passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 in Brownfield.

Memorial services were held Oct. 5 at Brownfield Church of Christ. Burial followed at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
Ima Jean was born on Jan. 25, 1932 in Hale County to Charlie and Emma Raney. She moved to Brownfield when she was 7, where she attended school.

She married Marvin Pendergrass on Aug. 11, 1948 in Silverton. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1980. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, Sam Raney in 2008 and Earl Raney in 1944.

Ima Jean is survived by her daughter, Linda Pendergrass of Brownfield; her son, Jim Pendergrass and his wife Kim of Snyder; her granddaughter, Suzie Jean Huddleston and her husband Bobby of Snyder and two sisters, Inez Wilkerson of Brownfield and Wanda Bailey of Burnett.

Services for Carmen Loretta Preston, 87, of Brownfield were held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Brownfield First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Randy Land officiating. Burial will followed in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Loretta passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009 in Brownfield. She was born March 16, 1922 in Wellington, Texas to Claude M. and Eunice Jewell Blandford. Loretta graduated from Wellington High School in 1940 and from Kansas City School of Beauty Culture in 1941. Loretta married Ernest Everett "Dutch" Preston on October 6, 1941 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1997.

She worked as a beautician and waitress during WWII traveling whenever possible along with her husband from military post to post until his assignment overseas. After the war they settled in Spearman and later moved to Brownfield in 1951. She was a homemaker during those early years in Brownfield while raising her family.

She served in many offices of the PTA. She joined Delphian Study Club, Rebekah Lodge and served with the American Cancer Society. In 1967 she began LVN training and graduated in 1968. She worked at Hope/Smith Medical Clinic for many years. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Haley; a brother, C.L. Blandford; 4 sisters, Neva, Polly, Joy and Janis.

Loretta is survived by a son, David Preston and wife Ruby of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Peggy Shrimpton and husband Russell of Brownfield and Darla Phillips and husband Larry of Taos, NM; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

U.S. Veteran Leo Adolph Wenzel, 83 of Brownfield passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating. Interment will follow in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Leo was born on Feb. 11, 1926 in Clifton to Adolf and Alma Wenzel. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1944 serving in Iwo Jima and recieving a WWII Purple Heart. He then married Mary Ellen O'Neal on Feb 2, 1949 in Brownfield. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2007. Leo farmed throughtout Terry County for many years. He was employed with the City of Brownfield Electric for over 17 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Leo is survived by his 2 daughters, Theresa Berne and her husband Ed of McKinney and Virginia Wenzel of Littlefield, and his sister, Lorena Welch of Levelland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Umberto was born on June 7, 1965 in Brownfield to Umberto Sr. and Juanita Gonzales. He attended schools in Brownfield. He was employed as a mechanic for many years. He worked for West Texas Peterbilt in Lubbock; Basic Energy in Seminole and Denver City and Butler Construction. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Umberto is survived by his mother, Juanita Gonzales of Brownfield; his daughter, Katherine Marie Gonzales of Midland; his granddaughter, Morgan Taylor Huck of Midland; three sisters, Debra Vasquez and her husband Paul of Brownfield; Emma Hernandez and her husband Freddy of Lubbock; and Erma Martinez and her husband Jimmy of Brownfield; his companion, Pam Howell of Brownfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Umberto Gonzales Sr.

Josefina Leal Garcia, 88, passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at Grace Medical Center in Lubbock.

Rosary was held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Mark A Jones Memorial Chapel in Brownfield. Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial followed at Meadow Cemetery in Meadow.

Personal services were under the direction of Mark A Jones
Funeral Directors in Brownfield.

Mrs. Garcia was born Aug. 27, 1921 to Frank and Carolina Leal in Floresville, Texas. Josefina lived in Meadow for 50 years. She was married to Rosario Garcia for 34 years. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1974.

Those left to cherish her memories are three sons, Alifonso Garcia and wife Peggy of Crosbyton, Alejandro Garcia and wife Janie, and Adam Garcia and wife Erica, both of Meadow; four daughters, Eloisa Cuellar and husband Alejandro, Elida Soto and husband Juan and Ester Reynero and husband Raymond, all of Meadow, and Elisa Dias and husband Ismael of Oklahoma; and one brother, Frank C. Leal of San Antonio. She also leaves behind 43 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Frank and Caroline Leal, and one brother, Alfredo.

Sorry for not responding to this I have gotten very behind on my geneology stuff with school and a computer crash. Nora Young was my gg grandmother as well. Your family stories agree with mine. She did giving birth to my g grandmother Lilly May Harrington. I have little information on her. Censor records show Clearence Harrington's mother, Nora Young, being born in Arizona. Someone told me they had a picture of her and the back of the picture said she was born in Brownfield Texas. I don't know what one is correct if either is. I can send you what I have through email. Johnnie W. Dunlap, 55, passed from this life on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at his residence in Brownfield.

Mr. Dunlap was born to John Alexander and Bobby Jo Dunlap on Jan. 3, 1954 in Pell City. Ala. He married Mercedes Ramirez on Feb. 14, 2007 in Tahoka. Johnnie worked in the construction industry for several years before becoming ill.

Those left to cherish his memories are wife and companion, of 19 years, Mercedes Dunlap of the home; mother: Bobby Jo Smith of Montevallo, Ala.; six sons: Johnnie Dunlap, Jr. and wife Natasha of Birmingham, Ala., Larry Martinez and Randy Martinez and wife Gloria of Houston, Richard Martinez and Ty Garza of Brownfield and Rene Martinez and wife Gracie of Sequin; four daughters: Joni Barnes and Husband Rich, and Joella, both of Birmingham, Ala., Stella Salinas and husband Ray of Houston and Jade Garza of Brownfield; one brother, James Dunlap and wife Vanessa of Pelham, Ala., and three sisters, Melody Sparks of Montevallo, Ala., Dora Connor and husband Ron of Birmingham, Ala., and Shantey Cain and husband Mike of Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Juan Carrillo and wife Luisa, and one sister-in-law, Olala Gonzales and husband Jesus, both of Brownfield.

He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Alexander Dunlap; step-father, Marion Smith; father and mother-in-law: Modesto and Dominga Ramirez and one brother:-in-law, Billy Jo Sparks.

Mr. Gobert was born Nov. 7, 1925 to Clifford and Effie Gobert in Washington, La. Amos married Jewel Fuller on March 19, 1963 in Dallas. He moved to Brownfield five years ago from Dallas after retiring from his own construction company, A & J construction.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife, of 46 years, Jewel of the home; a host of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Raul Serbantez and Robert Parish

He is preceded in death by both parents, Clifford and Effie Gobert; two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Rodriguez was born July 30, 1936 to Luis and Rosa Balderas in San Antonio. Mary married Antonio Rodriguez on Feb. 25, 1952 and later moved to Brownfield in 1952. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1999. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Rodriguez and wife Teresa of Lamesa and Ralph Rodriguez and companion Felicia Salas of Dallas; four daughters, Ofelia Mendez and husband Jessie of Meadow, Lisa Estrada and husband Steven of Brownfield, Stella Ramirez and companion Ricky Luera and Lori Trevino and husband Albert, both of Lubbock; seven brothers, Gilbert Balderas of Austin, Dan and Eddie Balderas, both of Round Rock, Lawrence Balderas of Pflugerville, Ruben, Louis and David Balderas, all of Hutto; five sisters, Alexandra Garcia of San Angelo, Louisa Narranjo and Eloisa Trejo, both of San Antonio, Marcy Martinez of Colorado City and Gloria Martinez and Olga Chapa, both of Hutto; and one life long friend Benito Rivera, Jr. of Brownfield.

Georgie passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 in Brownfield. She was born May 22, 1922 in Normangee to Jesse G. and Winnie H. Stucker. She moved with her family to Terry County in 1934.

Georgie married Simon James Robertson on February 9, 1949 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1969. Georgie was a seamstress working in the Dry Cleaning business and retiring in 2005. She was a member of Shady Oaks Church of God. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Robertson, three brothers and three sisters.

Bobby Joe passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Brownfield.

He was born October 31, 1936 to Jasper and Ella Sue Jowers in Bryson. He married Clydos Ann Dill on Jan. 13, 1954 in Brownfield.

He owned and operated Jowers Mfg. until his retirement in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Lavon, infant sister Shirley and his brother Bill Jowers.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clydos Ann Jowers of Brownfield; three children, Billy Joe Jowers and wife Lydia of Brownfield, Bobby J. Jowers and wife Jill of San Angelo and Joanna Pinkert and husband Clyde of Brownfield; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Joyce passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Abilene. She was born December 27, 1935 in Meadow to Troy V. and Lucille Gregory. She graduated from Meadow High School. She married Billy Charles Bond on July 22, 1954. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2002. Joyce worked at Nelson's Pharmacy for 18 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary.

She is also preceded in death by a brother, Troy Gregory.

Yvonne passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Lubbock. She was born January 26, 1943 in Brownfield to Kyle and Pauline Adams. She was a graduate of Wellman High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Texas Tech University in 1973.
She married Jimmy Rex on May 26, 1961 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death November 22, 1992. Yvonne taught school at Wellman Junior High for five years. She was a member of Wellman Baptist Church.
Yvonne is survived by her sons, James Rex and wife Donna of Wellman and Jack Rex and wife Twilla of Slaton; two brothers, Bill Adams and wife Linda of Lubbock and John Adams and wife Valorie of Katy; a sister, R. B. Pruitt and husband Tommy of Brownfield; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Erwin passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 in Lubbock. He was born Jan. 11, 1926 in Brownfield. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1943. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business at Texas Tech University. He taught high school math for more than 30 years.

Erwin married Mary Ellen Patton on June 4, 1949 in Brownfield. She preceded him in death in 2000. He was a WWII Army Veteran and member of the American Legion. He also retired from Air Force Reserves. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Erwin is also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Erwin is survived by a daughter, Tricia Moore of Tyler; two sons, Win Moore and wife Janice of Coppell and Mark Moore of Brownfield; a brother, L. G. Moore and wife Lois of Brownfield and a sister Mary Lackey of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Gordon Patton and wife Betty of Brownfield; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Raye Simms Douglass, 83, of Plano passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Austin.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruby Moltrie officiating. Interment will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Raye was born on April 15, 1926 in Brownfield to Judge Raymond and Idahlia Simms. She graduated from Brownfield High School in 1943. She then attended Texas Tech University where she studied Home Economics.

She married Young E. Douglass on February 7, 1945 in Marysville, Kansas. The family moved to Dallas in 1952, where she raised her family. She was a member of Lover's Lane Methodist Church where she was very active in the choir and Noah's Ark Sunday School class. She was also very active in her children's lives, leading Camp Fire groups and participating in the PTA. She became well known in her North Dallas community due to her participation as an election officer in charge of setting up and monitoring local polling locations.

Raye worked outside the home on and off throughout her life. She was known for her love of beauty and holiday celebrations. She had a keen sense of design which she used in every aspect of her life; from home decorating, landscaping, and floral arranging to beautiful food presentations.

Her memorial service will be filled with music which was another passion of hers. She began playing piano and singing as a young girl, with her first church solo at the age of 5 at the Brownfield Methodist Church.

Raye is survived by her two daughters, Beverly A. Douglass of Austin and Lynda R. Douglass of Atlanta and her granddaughter, Addie M. Douglass of Atlanta.

She married Lester Stoneman on March 15, 1933 in Carrizozo, New Mexico.He preceded her in death in 1935. She then married Robert Dale "Bob" Goldston on October 25, 1941 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1986. She was also preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, a daughter and two grandchildren. She was a member of Brownfield First Baptist Church.

Antonia married Santos Galvan on Sept. 11, 1940 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death in 1986. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Julia Ruiz and 2 sons, John and Richard Galvan and her pet Cookie. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed. She had a great love for animals and always opened her heart and home to any strays, which she took wonderful care of. She was a member of the Gualanpanas of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Lucia was born December 30, 1930 in Karnes City to Jacinto and Francisca Garcia. She married Luis Martinez on November 1, 1952 in Karnes City. He preceded her in death in 1962. She then moved to Brownfield in 1970.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Daniel Martinez; four sisters, Anita Morin, Salome Alaniz, Angelita Alaniz and Maria Villegas and four brothers, Pablo Garcia, Amador Garcia, Juan Garcia and Suzano Garcia. Lucia was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed dearly by her family.

Yvonne was born Oct. 5, 1926 in Lamesa to U.R. and Bertie Mae Middleton. She attended schools in Lamesa, where she graduated from high school in 1944. She then attended Hardin-Simmons College earning her bachelor's degree.

She taught schools in Lamesa for one year before marrying L.L. "Pid" Banta on January 28, 1950. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, L.L. "Pid" Banta of Brownfield, two sons, Mike Banta and his wife Cindy of Lubbock and Dennis Banta and Cindy Shaver of Brownfield; her daughter, Donna Lane and her husband Robert of Yantis; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Cullie Middleton, and her sister, Wanda Sue Jones.

Evelyn Elizabeth Lewis, 90, of Brownfield passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 in Tulsa, Okla. Graveside services were held Friday, Aug. 28 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Payne officiating.

Evelyn was born on March 12, 1919 in Slocum to the late Gilbert Roy and Cora Day. She moved with her family to Brownfield in 1924 graduating from Union High School and continuing her education at Texas Tech. She worked as a bookkeeper for J.B. Knight Hardware and Furniture for many years. Evelyn married R.L. Lewis on Dec. 2, 1944 in Brownfield. Together they farmed throughout Terry County.
He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her son, Randy Lewis in 1990.

Evelyn is survived by two brothers, Victor Day and his wife Suzy of Tulsa, Okla., and Glen Day and his wife Joy of Plainview; her sister, Oleta Richardson of Davis, Okla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

J.C. was born on March 5, 1923 in Trent, Texas to the late Grover Ulysses and Alice May Seaton. He moved to Terry County with his family as a child. J.C. was a veteran of the United States Army.

He married Sue Hairston on January 30, 1946 in Brownfield. He owned Seaton Machine Shop for over 45 years. He also farmed throughout Terry County for most of his life. J.C. was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Holli Seaton in 1980.

J.C. is survived by his wife Sue Seaton of Brownfield; his son, Mike Seaton and his wife DeAnn of Brownfield; his daughter, Susan Crutcher and her husband Larry of Justin; grandchildren, Amy and Chad Davis of Lake Kaiowa, Tx, Nicholas Seaton of Brownfield and Tracy and Anthony Ferguson of Lubbock; one great grandson, Brennen Davis of Lake Kaiowa, Texas; two brothers, Bradley Seaton and his wife Jerinne of Brownfield and Ira Seaton and his wife Jean of Brownfield; two sisters, Julia Woodard of Brownfield and Rose Jones of San Angelo and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobbie married Ronnie Bartley on January 12, 1959 in Meadow. She was office manager working for 47 years at Tri-Matic Inc. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mr. Herrera was born May 2, 1941 to Felix and Rosenda Herrera in Durango, Mexico. Felipe moved to Artesia, N.M. in the 1960's. He married Consuelo Torrez in Carlsbad, N.M. She precedes him in death in January 1994. They moved to Brownfield in 1975. Then in 1996 he moved to Lubbock.

He is survived by one son, Felix Herrera and wife Corinna of Artesia, N.M.; one daughter, Lupe Cano and husband Randy of Brownfield; two brothers, Jose Herrera of Mexico and Mario Herrera of Oakland, Calif.; five sisters, Amparo Herrera and Margarita Herrera, both of Mexico, Martha Sanchez and Maria Sanchez, both of Andrews and Alicia Esparza of Santa Barbara, Calif., and companion Rosenda Flores of Lubbock.

He also leaves behind six granddaughters and two great-grandkids.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Felix and Rosenda Herrera, and one brother, Angel Herrera.

Billie passed away Friday, Aug 14, 2009 in Brownfield. She was born Jan 27, 1923 in Anson to Pascal and Ima Jay Ball. She graduated from Anson High School in 1940. Billie married Henry Louis Norman on April 27, 1942 in Abilene. She worked for the Lamesa Daily Reporter before moving to Brownfield in 1963. In 1970 Billie and Henry bought the Country Press newspaper where they worked until retiring in 1983. She helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She loved her family, being outside, walking with Henry, traveling and the many friends she had. She was a member of Brownfield Church of Christ. Billie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Kenneth Ball, two granddaughters, Kathy Lynn Baylor and Tammy Louise Baylor.

Funeral mass was held Friday, Aug. 14 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield. Burial followed at Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield. Personal services were under the direction of Mark A Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.

Mrs. Mendez was born to Lino and Francisca Torrez in George West, Texas on July 20, 1930. She married Emilio Mendez on March 1, 1948. They lived in George West until 1962 when they moved to Needmore, then to Brownfield in 1964.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband of 61 years, Emilio Mendez of the home; six sons, Emilio Mendez, Jr. and wife Patricia of Anton, Francisco Mendez of San Marcos, Alfredo Mendez and wife Sylvia of Hobbs, N.M.; Guadalupe Mendez and wife Lori, Marcos Mendez and Carlos Mendez, all of Brownfield;five daughters, Eloisa Medina and husband Joe and Elida Mendoza of Brownfield, Elena Mendez-Zuniga and husband Mario and Jesusa Lara and husband Joe of Lubbock and Elidia Ramirez and husband Alberto of Cleburne; one daughter-in-law: Eva Mendez of Amarillo and one brother, Jacinto Deleon of George West. She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

After retirement, George spent most of his days at Shadow Hills Golf Course.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Doris Fugitt of Lubbock; a son, Mark Fugitt and wife Janell of Cimarron, Kansas; daughter, Shanna Fugitt of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Justin, Macy and Janae Fugitt of Cimarron, Kan.; mother, Al Bearden of Brownfield; two sisters, Janie Rudisill and husband Wayne of Lake Whitney and Diane Fulford and husband Loyd of Brownfield. He was preceded in death by his father in 1976.

Norma D. West, 82, of Brownfield passed away Monday, August 3, 2009 in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 6 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Brownfield with David Rowan officiating.

Interment will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Norma was born on March 6, 1927 in Needmore, Texas to J.W. and Vera Bingham. She graduated from Meadow High School. Norma married Alton West on October 30, 1945 in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2003. She was a homemaker. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Joshua Rowan in 2001.

Dorothy M. Jackson, 81, of Brownfield went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 27, 2009 in Brownfield. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eugene Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Dorothy will be in state for viewing at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009. The family will have a visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Dorothy was born on June 15, 1928 to A.C. and Frances Mays. She was raised in Thrall, attending Lincoln High School. She married Fred L. Jackson on June 18, 1949 in Thrall. She was a member of New Life House of Praise Church and the Terry County Home Extension Club.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Fred L. Services for Oscar Leon Lewis, 82,formerly of Plains were at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Wright officiating. Burial followed in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Leon's family will receive visitors prior to the service on Tuesday.

Oscar Leon Lewis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25. He was born Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927 in Brownfield to Clyde and Ora Lewis. He graduated from Brownfield High School. He received his masters from Texas Tech University. He was a U.S. Army and Navy Veteran. Leon taught for many years in the Plains ISD. He was an avid golfer and collected six holes-in-one during his career. He is preceded in death by two sons, Clarence Leon and William Deverelle Lewis; a sister, Vondee Moore.

Leon is survived by his son, Ceth and wife Jerra and their children, Hayes and Jessa of Weatherford; his daughter, Amantha Strawn and husband Herb, and her children Stephen of Brownwood, Clarence, Elizabeth, Aron, and Darryl of Plains; two brothers, Bobby Lewis and Deverelle Lewis of Lubbock; a sister, Elray McKinney of Lubbock; numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Edna was born on December 25, 1927 in Breckenridge, Texas to Guy and Clara Moreman. She moved with her parents to Brownfield in 1943 where she graduated from High School in 1946. She married Harvie George on November 4, 1949. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2000. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Edna is survived by her son, Mike George and his wife Theresa Pella of Cedar Park and 4 sisters, Jimmie Chapman and her husband Don of Stephenville, Juanelle Goldston and her husband Leon of Fort Worth, Jolene Jones and her husband Roy of Andrews and Margie Daniels of Brownfield.

Pete was born on June 8, 1984 in Brownfield to Pete Anthony Martinez and Nora Guzman Rodriguez. He attended schools in Brownfield. He had recently been speaking as a motivational speaker for PlainTalk, having a positive influence on many people because of the changes he had made in his own life.

Pete is survived by his parents, Nora Rodriguez and Pete Martinez, Sr. of Brownfield; his brother, Labon Bean Phergson of Brownfield; two sisters, Libbyon Bean Phergson and Andrea Nora Guzman of Brownfield and his grandfather, Rodolfo Guzman of Brownfield and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Marcario and Paula Martinez, Sr. and his paternal great grandparents, Pedro and Juanita Pina, his uncle, Albert Martinez, his maternal grandmother, Antonia Torres Guzman, his uncle, Guadalupe Guzman and his aunt, Antonia Guzman.

Denver Andrew Kelly went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2009. He was 99 years old.

Denver was born September 27, 1909 to William Henry and Lula Kelly in Lipan, Texas. He moved to Terry County about 1925 and attended school at Gomez. He played basketball at Gomez High School and later, as an adult he played baseball on a Gomez team. It is said that with Denver catching and his brother, Otis, pitching, Gomez was hard to beat.

Denver graduated from Gomez High School in 1930 and presented Ruby Key with an engagement ring on the following Christmas Day. They were married November 28, 1931 in Lovington. They would have celebrated 78 years of marriage this November. The first spring after their wedding, Denver planted his first crop with two mules and a plow. He continued to farm in the Gomez community until his retirement from active farming in 1976.

He could never really leave the land though and was vital in the overseeing of his land until his health forced his move away from the farm last year. He was often seen hoeing in the heat of the day and driving around the farm checking the crops’ progress.
Denver was a member of the Gomez Baptist Church for many years.

He was an active member of the community and was a very active member of the McDonald’s early morning coffee crew for many, many years.

Denver is survived by his wife Ruby, of Rockwall; his son Royce and wife Charlotte of Hot Springs Village, Ark.,and his daughter Patricia and husband Darrell Benton of Rockwall, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Cindy Gano, Kelly Murphy, Trisha Kurtz, Tim Murphy, Craig Kelly, Sharla Trice, Stanley Noblett, Tammy Harver, and Kelly Scott Noblett, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all his 10 brothers and sisters, one daughter Betty Brown, and grandson Mike Kelly and great-grandson Brad Sanford.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at the First Baptist Church of Brownfield with the Rev. Randy Land officiating. Interment will follow in Brownfield Cemetery.

Hector T. Salinas, Sr., 66, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 at his residence in Brownfield.

Funeral Services for Mr. Salinas were held Monday, July 20 at Mark A. Jones Memorial Chapel in Brownfield with Rev. Santos Gamez officiating. Burial followed at Brownfield Cemetery. Personal services are under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.

Mr. Salinas was born January 28, 1943 to Cristobal Salinas and Tomasita Martinez in Mexico. He moved to Brownfield in 1963. On September 16, 1964 he married Marcilla Rodriguez in Brownfield. She preceded him in death August 12, 2001.

Hector worked for Massingel as a Gang Pusher for 30 years. He was a Catholic.

Those left to cherish his memories include one son, Hector Salinas Jr. and his wife Rosa of Brownfield; four daughters, Rosa Gonzales and husband Gonzalo, Maria Juarez and husband Gustavo, Carmen Leija and husband Johnny and Juanita Salazar and husband David all of Brownfielf; two brothers, Telesforo Salinas and Jose Luz Salinas, both of Mexico and two sisters, Rosa Linda Guiterrez and Isaac Guiterrez both of Mexico. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Cristobal and one sister.

A funeral mass was held July 18 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial followed in the Brownfield Cemetery. Personel services were under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.

Daniela was born on Feb. 3, 1988 in Lubbock to Thomas M. Hernandez and Carmalinda Cervantes. She graduated from Brownfield High School in 2005 and attended South Plains College. She was employed for three years as a service writer at Stanley Motorplex. She was a member of the youth program at St. Anthony's and was a Brownfield volunteer for the PTO.

Those left to cherish her memories are her parents, Jose and Linda Gomez of Brownfield and Thomas and Julie Hernandez of Lubbock, maternal grandfather, Frank Cervantes and maternal great grandmother, Anna Maria Salas, two sons, KeSean Dever and Keeston Henion, both of Brownfield and one daughter, Kierra Dever of Brownfield; six brothers, Eloy Saenz, Jr., Steven Saenz and Bryan Gomez, all of Brownfield, and Adam Hernandez, Thomas Hernandez, Jr. and David Hernandez, all of Lubbock; two sisters, Julia Rodriguez of Brownfield and Monica Hernandez of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Marcelina P. Cervantes.

Delton passed away at his home on Saturday, July 18, 2009. He was born on January 14, 1930 to David Edward and Nora Bessie Gregg in Arab, Alabama. He moved to Meadow at a young age. He graduated from Meadow High School in 1949. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Korea. Delton married Barbara Grace Green on March 3, 1951 in Brownfield. He was a farmer. He received the "Outstanding Young Farmer of Terry County" award. He was County Commissioner for Prec. 3 for 12 years. He retired in 1999. Delton is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Ulys Gregg; a sister, Grace Carter.

Delton is survived by his wife Barbara of Brownfield; two daughters, Carmin McWilliams and husband Greg of Levelland and Cindy Zimmerman and husband Harry of Lubbock; grandchildren, Dave McWilliams of Leander, Jayne Awbrey and husband Eric of Portland; Michael Zimmerman and wife Renee of Lubbock and Andrea Zimmerman and fiancee Tim Hammer of San Antonio; 1 great-granddaughter, Amber Grace Awbrey of Portland; three sisters, Erma Knight of Meadow, Nadine Cain and husband Maurice of Ropesville and Dorothy Liles of Kress.

Ok Terry I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is my computer crashed and I lost most of my files with it. The good news is I have back ups. I just haven't had time to restore all the files. I am in the middle of a calculus class that is eating my time up. Here is some information about Lilly May Harrington, my great great grandmother. From her obituary. Born May 28, 1890 in Picacho Arizona, Died May 9, 1965 in Tucson Arizona. Her name at her death was Lilly May Lane. Her mother was Nora Young who died giving berth to her. I have very little information about Nora but believe she was part Indian. I do have a photo of her though. Lilly's father was Joseph Thomas Harrington, have a few photos of him. I have his birth and death dates in my data base and can get that to you when I recover all my files. I have a vast amount of information about the Harringtons. J.T. Harrington was murdered in Arizona. Shot while riding his horse. You can get the full trial record from the Arizona archives, just look them up on the internet and write them. Look up the arizona gen web project on the internet and you can find some news paper articles about it. Arizona post it's old birth and death certificats on line so you can search for them.
