Franklin Pierce Rowland and family

Franklin Pierce Rowland moved to Tarrant County, TX from Smith Co., TN in 1879. His wife appears to have been Eliza J. Nolen, but I have no marriage record from TN to confirm she was a Nolen nor the date. They do appear in the 1880 Tarrant Co., TX census and never again. Both supposedly died before 1900 in Tarrant Co., TX, and I need a cemetery look up for the full birth and death dates, or any death record. They also had a son named Arthur born in Tarrant Co. in 1879, and a daughter named Rebecca born in 1876 in Smith County, TN. Son Richard b. 1875 in Smith Co., TN went to CA.

I am researching the Rowland line, not the Nolen line. Any help appreciated.

David Johnson
smltnt@yahoo.com

Hello, and thank you for looking at my request. First of all, thank you for your work for us!

I need the obituary for family: William Jefferson Mitchell
Born: 17 Dec. 1879 in Alvarado, Johnson, Texas; Died: 25 Oct. 1967.
I have his death certificate. He was buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with his wife, Fannie May Crane Mitchell. I have their grave marker pictures. On the death certificate, it lists Shannon Rife Snow Furneral Home of Ft. Worth, Texas. George W. Shannon Furneral Director #5336 at that time in 1967.
I looked on ancestors.com at the Texas Newspapers but there was no paper from the Tarrant Co listed there.
I would be very thankful for William Jefferson Mitchell's obit as he and my grandfather were very close.I do not know how how many newspapers there were in 1967-probably 2 is my guess.
E
I work at St Edwards in Austin TX. jeanb@stedwards.edu. I have some photos from Lowery family reunions if you are interested.

Re: Edward Carroll Stewart sr.

Obtaining the birth certificate of Edward Carrol Stewart Jr, won't help you unless you know something else about the father (Sr.). Especially if the birth certificate of Jr. doesn't have the full name and date of birth of the father, Sr. Knowing the names of any siblings of Junior OR Senior would also further identify the correct family.

I did some searches for this family. I found an Edward Carroll Stewart, born Dec 1887, he was white. I found an Edward Stewart having a son Edward Stewart in Tarrant County in 1921/1922; they were a black family. The possible mother of the father (Sr).

So, bottom line first: The information found is lacking any possible proof, but does provide some additional information that you might be able to verify.
---
I found family trees on Edward Jr:
1. Owned by "cwstew1"
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/2843472/person/-1811359952?ss...=
If you have an ancestry.com membership you can see the above tree. If you don't you might be able to access it via your local library with your library card. Or, you can get a free 14 day membership...IF you provide your credit card and be sure to cancel before the end of the 14 days.
This tree shows Edward was the son of Doris Penix, but does not identify the father. It also does not identify Edward as being a "Jr.", or senior or any dates at all. So, this Doris "could" have been the mother of Edward Sr.
2. A second tree, owned by the same person, no further information.
3. I find your family tree showing the father as Edward Carroll Stewart Sr., 1887 to 1934. But unless you have found proof since September 23, 2009, you aren't sure?

The 1930 Census for Precinct 6, Bowie County, Texas
Edward Stewart, age 29, "neg" (Black), born in Arkansas to both parents born in Arkansas, married at age 20, farmer, renting on Rodaway (could be Rolaway) Lane.
Willie, wife, Neg, born in Texas to both parents born in Texas.
Edward Jr, age 8 (born 1921/1922)
O.D. Brother to Edward, (Sr.), age 23
Jalby?, brother to Edward (Sr.), age 21
--In the family above this one:
Doris James, 48, born in Arkansas, widow born in Arkansas to both parents born in Arkansas, farmer, renting
George Stewart, 16, born in Arkansas to both parents born in Arkansas
Norman Stewart, 10, born in Texas to both parents born in Arkansas
Curtis James, son, 5, born in Texas to both parents born in Arkansas
Jesse James, son, 14, born in Arkansas to both parents born in Arkansas
-- It "appears" from this census, this Doris "might" be the mother of Edward Sr., age 29 (which puts his birth about 1900/1901). He and "Willie" would be the son of Edward Jr. age 8 (1921/1922)
-- The information from the first family tree identifies a "Doris Penix" was the mother of an Edward Carrol Stewart, but the tree does not have any dates of birth/death/etc.

The 1900 Census for Justice Precinct 8, Tarrant Co, TX
Edward C. Stewart, born Dec 1887, White, born in Texas to father born in Arkansas mother in Indiana. He was son to:
William Stewart, born Dec 1860 in Arkansas to parents born in unknown,
Laina? July 1864, in Indiana. (In 1910, identified as "Levnie")
--In the 1920 census, this Edward is living with William and Luviana, he is 32 and widowed.

The World War I Draft Registration Card Image Database shows Edward Carroll Stewart born Dec 14, 1888 in Mansfield, Texas. He had a wife & child, but neither are identified. This person registered n June 5, 1917
---This person is probably he one identified above due to date of birth being in December. As far as the year difference, 1888 versus 1887, I consistently find a year of birth difference in about 50 percent of the research.

--First, there is no proof this is the correct Edward C. Stewart that you seek. But, this one was born in Tarrant County in 1887. This person was also white. Unless you have information the Edward Carrol Jr.'s father was white, this is either the wrong person for this family, or the wrong Edward C. Stewart.

Ron Bestrom

Krystal,
Let's put some common sense into this search, before you get told to go off on tangents not worth following.

The very first thing you must do is start with your grandfather. Obtain his birth certificate, if you don't already have it. VERIFY what it says on the BC, with information given to you from other sources.

Next, I would have suggested that you must get a copy of the original Social Security Number application (the form SS-5) from the Social Security Administration. This form shows many things, to include the names of the parents. Get one for your grandfather. Then, obtain one for this Walter Bailey Moore. A copy of the actual image costs $27.00, or you can get a computer printout for $16.00. An image has the original handwriting of the person, this is also good for comparing signatures of other documents. To order, go to: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/fto_ssdisearch.html?Wel...
Enter the SSN number, and once it verifies the name you seek, click on "write letter". It takes a bit of time to receive.

Next, when I said above, "I would have suggested"... I found the answer to your search written by "pdsain". He/She found a LOT of valuable information, to include census information on your family. He/She also suggested doing the Social Security request.

After I read through the "pdsain" data, I did no further research, the information was sound and valuable. The other "poster" (living in East Wenatchee, WA) suggested going to Tarrant County for a birth certificate...There may or may not be a record there EVEN if he was born there. He might have been born somewhere else and you won't know. Get the Social Security Number application first, it will tell where he was born. And the same thing for Ellis Count marriages, guesses in genealogy won't work. USE LOCAL SOURCES.

Ron Bestrom

Hello just wondering do you knwo if there are any death record between 1880 and 1900 in Dallas? I think Cornelia Goodman died in that time frame her mother has 5 kids in the 1880 census and I know Charles was born that yr after the census and then in 1900 she has 4 kids and it says she has given birth to 11 and only 9 lives, I know that Anna Helen/Lucertia Maggie and James were all living at that time and there is a Charles born 12-1880 reg in the WWI records so that would only leave Cornelia and an unknown child I have the names of 10 so one never made it on the census at all. And maybe you could find something on Charles I find him in the WWI records in ft worth tx but no where after that thanks Cheryl

I also believe Cornelia is my Cornelia I just think she died before 1900. Maggies husband was from Franklin co Tn and I to can not find Charles after 1918 when he did the WWI thing have searched for him and his wife in the 1920 & 1930 Census and can not find him find no death that match him I am lost but he could have went to Ca where most of his family went. but of course no access to death record before 1940 will have to post on ca and see if I can find him any where I think he had passed by 1935 when his mother died though. thanks again

Requirement to file deaths in Texas did not begin until 1903 and at that you will find very few who complied with the law. Dallas may have deaths filed at county level but they would not be in transcribed data. That would require a trip to the Dallas county courthouse.

I believe the Cornelia who married Mr. Smith was your Cornelia. It is also possible that Mr. Smith died and she remarried or both died. I queried death records looking for children whose mother was Cornelia and found nothing positive. I did not look to see if a Cornelia Smith married in Dallas after 1888 the records online go through 1898 or 1899 I believe.

Charles Goodman born 30 Dec 1879 residence 1111 Balzor? Terr, carpenter for Dupont E..? Co, was working in Jacksonville TN [Obion Co] or TX [CherokeeCo] and filed by mail in 1918, wife Leatie? at 1111 B... Terr nearest relative, had blue eyes and brown hair like to other Goodman's.

Wasn't Obion County where Maggie's husband was from ? Even using the pilotsearch website for 1900 & 1920 census I find no similar name which soundexes first and last names. Simply not finding Charles F Goodman and find no Goodman's who claimed father was born in Arkansas.

I am looking for information on John M Pickett and Sallie A Pickett who came to Texas in 1852-1854. Sometimes the name is spelled Picket. I am trying to locate them in the Texas 1860 census and cannot find them. Sallie is in the 1870 Texas census in Grayson County with her children and is the head of household since John was killed in 1865. Any assistance would be appreciated.

According to his death certificate, Aaron Howser was born 29 Jan 1865 in Tenn and died 14 September 1932 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. The same researcher says that Fannie Howser's maiden name was Carey.

I hope this will provide the information you need to obtain the certificate you are seeking.

I am not related to this family.

Re: Parents of BAILEY WALTER Moore of Fort Worth, TX

Hi Krystal,

I'm perplexed that I can't find any Census records for Bailey, Mattie or their children and I've looked in Ancestry and Heritage Quest.

Bailey's social security record says he was born 21 June 1894 too so I'd look for his birth certificate. Go to Tarrant County TXGenWeb Addresses, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txtarran/address.htm . Contact the Tarrant County Courthouse which is at the top of the page. Birth certs weren't required by the State this early but it might have been filed at the County level.

Do you have a copy of Mattie's obituary? If yes, look for when and where they were married.

If not, contact the Fort Worth Public Library for a copy. Contact info is at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txtarran/address.htm on approximately page 2.

Of course it's possible they were married in Ellis County and I'm not familiar with where they file marriage records.

Sometimes marriage records contain the parents names, sometimes they don't. Go to Tarrant County TXGenWeb Marriage Records, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txtarran/marriages.htm .

The next time you post a query be sure to mention that the family tree is posted on Ancestry. You had more info on the family tree than in your query. Saves a volunteer time in searching. Successful Searching!
