George N . Carter CONROE - George N . Carter Sr., 67, a self-employed retail clothier, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at home in Conroe after a lengthy illness.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at Independence Chapel at Greenwood Maussoleum in Greenwood Memorial Park.

George Carter , a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Amarillo.

He attended Whispering Pines Baptist Church and was active in the Prison Ministry in the state. He was a very active people person. In the 50s and 60s he was an athletic director and coach of many sport teams. He loved to work with children. He grew up in Fort Worth and went to Paschal High School. He owned his own business for 25 years until he retired in 1997. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors: Loving wife of 50 years, Elouise Carter of Conroe; sons, George N . Carter Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Irving and Charles Carter and his wife, Pearl, of Benbrook; daughter, Connie Carter Winters and her husband, Ron of Hawkins; brother, Eddie Carter of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
