I am also trying to do some work on the Cheek family...but have hit a big wall. My great grand mother was Dora Cheek...from Carroll County Mississippi. All records show that in 1880 she and her brother were being raised by an Aunt and Uncle by the name of Hughs (Hughes) Joseph and Mary Ann. But there are no records for her before this. She was born somewhere around 1870. Census records of 1880 show her to be around 9 and her brother Byron? to be 6 yrs of age. Any help would be appreciated.

Na'Na i came across this by complete accident but i miss you sooo much and i couldnt leave this page without leaving a message on it. I know you're not hear to read this but i want everyone to know how special and great you were.
To anyone reading this: my Na'Na was my best friend. I loved her more than i loved my own mom. I knew i could come to her about anything and everything and if she was still here i still would. Even though its been 8 years i still think of her everyday. She was a rare person. So sweet, caring, and a survivor. She's my hero. I want everyone to know how amazing she is, but their arent enough words to describe how perfect and great and amazing she was. I will always remember her. Everyone who ever knew her will always remember her. And if you didnt know her its ashame, because she was a fantastic person.

Looking for anyone who has good general knowledge of county history who can tell be if there were ever any Indian Wars/Campaigns in or near Glen Rose area of Somervell Co. Time frame I'm seeking info from would be approx. 1840-1868 I believe, not real sure. If there were Indian conflicts here, is there any kind of archived data that would tell me the names of the soldiers who participated?

Veda Mae Dye Giesecke , Wife of Austin Texas Giesecke. She Died in 2003 she was the daughter of George W. Dye.
According to a letter Date 1990 was sent a Package of Genealogy pertinent Photographs of the Dye, Kinsey, and Hull Families all of Fisher County TX
Does anyone know what happened to the pictures? or what happened to her Research?

I would like to get copies of these 100 year old pictures. [I know this is a Long Long shot]

I am the grandaughter of David Dawson and Ascenith Cheek.
My grandmother is listed as Cassandra Malinda. Her name as I knew her, was Sarah Cassie Dawson Mills. She talked about her mother saying that she had died when she was only two or three. She told the story of her mother being buied between Thorndale and Rockdale and that her mother's brother carved her name on the tree by her grave.
Her father, David Dawson remarried and his wife's name was Daisy. I always knew my grandmother didn't like step-mothers. I wonder who changed her name?

John Henry Blake is my great great grandfather. I have been looking
far him far a very long time with almost no luck at all.
Here is what I know about him.

John Henry Blake
He was born in iether 1833 or 1835 in Bibb County, Alabama.
He died 23 Mar 1913 in Somerville County, Texas.
His parents were: Thomas C Blake and Elizabeth Ann Youngblood.
His first wife may have been: Salina Wood
His second wife is: Nancy Catherine Mangrum/Mangum.
He served in the Civil War on the Confederate side:
30th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry.
His father was from Mississippi and his mother from South Carolina.
He had 2 daughters from his second marriage:
1. Fannie Blake Rich
2. Minnie Blake Sutton, my great grandmother.
He also had 6 stepchildren from the same marriage. They Were the
children of William Frazier NELSON and Nancy Catherine Mangrum.
1. Bessie Nelson Sutton
2. William Harvey Nelson
3. Edward Lee Thomas Nelson
4. Georgeaboy Nelson
5. Isom Elijah Bradford Nelson
6. Mary Elisabeth NELSON

He lived in Texas, Alabama and maybe Mississippi during his life.
That is about all I have on him. I cannot find donumentation to back
up much of this at all.
I do have information and pictures to share on some of his
descendants if anyone is kin.
Any help would be appreciated.

You and my niece have shared info on the Cheek Family,anyway I found this marriage record on Ellen Cheek.

Amanda was married to a John Roach, wonder if it is possible she married her sister's husband after Amanda died.

My grandmother was the daughter of Ascenith Cheek and David Dawson. Twice I have seen their daughter listed by the name Cassdandra Melinda Dawson. The only name I knew for her was Sarah Cassie Dawson Mills. I know the story of her mother being buried betrween Rosedale and Thorndale and that her mother's brother carved her name on a tree. She really didn't know exactly where her grave is located.

I have found Lucy Johnson in 1850 Larue Co.,Ky census. James P. and Elizabeth Johnson are her parents'. They Are in 1860 Parker Co. census. James Johnson died before 1870 and Elizabeth Johnson returned to Larue Co.,Ky with her two youngest children.

I am doing a family tree and need the name of someone in Glen Rose. There seem to be 2 men fitting this description. I need the name or info of the man who worked construction in Glen Rose for years, is over 60, Cherokee, and is sometimes called Chief. It is not L. Jones. James Ramsey Skiles and Stella E. Wood had a son (JR) born 5-17-1926 in Somervell Co, and also a daughter, Jimmie Lavada, born 3-21-1928 in Somervell Co. Stella's father was Geroge Wood and her mother was a Glass. both would have been born around 1880. Stella died about 1929, giving birth to a second son, who died at birth. I have not visited this cemetery. But according to "Cemeteries in and around Somervell County, TX", it is located about 6 miles south of Glen Rose via Hwy 144 toward Wlanut Springs to FM Rd 56. Road FM 56 changes to FM 202 near where the cemetery is located in the Rock Creek Community of Somervell County.

Information on James Crinnian, Physician died in 1880

Seeking information about the family of James Crinnian. He was a Civil War veteran, a physician living in Glen Rose, Somervell Tx. at the time of his death in May 1880. He was crossing the Brazos River to tend a patient when he drowned. Can any one help me with place of burial, stories, pictures, etc? Dr. Crinnian was my Grandmother's adoptive father. My Grandmother's name was changed from Clara Sprague to Mary Angela Crinnian when she was adopted in March 1873.

Did you ever find information on this? If not, I'm guessing that it is my grandmother's father that you are asking about. He went by Chief Johnson. He, also, went by T.J. I believe his real name was either Thomas Judsen Johnson or Thomas Jedson Johnson. If you did find something, will you please let me know. LOL I've been "stuck" at him and his wife for a while. I am trying to prove my Cherokee roots. Thanks!

I am looking for two missing Holder girls. The Presley Holder family lived in Titus Co. from about 1848 to about 1870. Around 1870 they moved to a part of Hood Co. that later (1875) became part of Somervell Co.

The Presley Holder family is in the 1860 Titus Co. census. They are also in the 1880 Somervell Co. census. We have been unable to find them in the 1870 census. We know for certain that they were in Hood Co. in 1873 as Presely Holder died in 1873 and is buried there.

Presley Holder and Mary Longacre had two daughters that we have been unable to find: Mary J Holder, b. 24 Jul 1854 and Ana A. Holder, b. 21 Sep 1861.

We figure that they probably married someone from Titus, Hood, Somervell or surrounding counties. Does anyone have info on these girls?

I am related through Phoebe's brother George Washington BENGE.

Lewis was b. abt. 1832 in Izard County Arkansas. He died in 1864 serving during the CSA. Have you done any research in Bell County, Texas. Wish I had more to tell you.

I've got Ella and Jeff and their family for quite a while - thankfully, they were rather easy to trace. I've even got a copy of their marriage certificate, but doesn't do me much good unfortunately.

I did see the entry of Sarah and Ellen but have had no luck trying to find a marriage entry for a Sarah Johnson to anyone Moseley anywhere.

I also can't seem to find any records for Ella's death - got her burial records (even have a rubbing of her grave marker) but not a lot of paperwork on her... any suggestions on where to look for this one?

"Married - Sunday, December 11 at the residence of Mr.s Cavason (Cavasos?), aunt of the bride, G.F. (Jeff) Armstrong and Miss Ella Mosley. A large number were present, and everything passed away smoothly.

Wm. Armstrong gave his brother an infare (?) dinner Monday. Among thos ewho attended were, Frank Norton and family, Wm. Orr and family, Mrs. D. A. Strain, the Misses Styron, Miss Nannie Shipley, Miss Blanche Harvey, Miss Lou Sparks, the Messrs. Dale, John Kimbrough, Jim Adrian, Charley Styron, Miss Laura Martin, the Messrs. Brannett, Carios Myers, Jimmy Johnston and others. They all say they wish there was another Geoff Armstrong to get married."
