Lenora or Nora L. Beeson was born in 1852-1854, the daughter of Abel Beeson and Deloris Unknown. (Abel Beeson was one Austin's Old 300 Families) Nora married Matthew Caldwell Roberts in 1866, Claldwell County, TX. She had at least one brother, Benjamin F. Beeson.
Nora L. Beeson and Mattlew C. Roberts had one daughter, Lula Belle Roberts, born abt 1874. She died young.
Ben F. Beeson was elected Llano County Sheriff two consecutive terms, but resigned before he completed the second term and his brother-in-law, Matthew Caldwell Roberts, was appointed by the Commissioners Court to fulfill the term in 1888. To further complicate matters, the two men were also stepbrothers. Roberts' father, Abraham Roberts had married Beeson's mother, Deloris, shortly after his son's marriage to her daughter.
(Matthew Caldwell Roberts did not run for election when his appointment expired. Ben Ligon was elected the next Llano sheriff.)
There had been a long standing feud between the two (Roberts & Beeson) which ended in a shoot-out in late September of 1890. Roberts was hit first, but as he was going down got of a shot that hit Beeson in the face and head, killing him instantly.
Benjamin F. Beeson is buried in the Llano City Cemetery. Roberts' suffered the rest of his life from his wounds, dying in 1896 and also buried in the Llano City Cemetery.
In 1900 Census, Llano, Nora L. Roberts, a widow is running a boarding house. There is 1910 filing of a deed in San Saba County listing her name and that of her "long deceased husband"
Can anyone tell me more about her?
