also, i would guess the M McDaniel listed as his father was really his mother's name and supports my theory that the father was not part of the picture. however, i have found no information on M. McDaniel, other than a web site listing her name as Missouri M. (Tomlinson) McDaniel. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Mc...;
also, the 1866 census in Lowndes county alabama lists the name Malinda Tomlinson before Robert McDaniel. there is also a listing of a soldier death in her name; i suspect she was a civil war widow. in any event they were not married in 1866 and thomas newton mcdaniel was born in 1867.
