James was hard to find in 1850 but did find him in Mississippi. Maybe you can explain this to me: If someone is listed as owning a headright, what does that mean? I assumed it meant you were first owner of that tract of land, given by the state or county????
If James Lucas Sory is listed in 1839, the same day as his brother and father in law getting 640acres, where do I find what happened to that land? And shouldn't it be called James Sory survey just like John's 640 acres is and was? I cannot find any record of this land anywhere at all. I can find William Haltom's and John Sory's but nothing ever about James Lucas Sory until this Nacogdoches Headright Book I found in the library.
Thank you for replying!
