GROVER C. DAVIS DIED WEDNESDAY, FUNERAL THURSDAY - Winters Enterprise - November 17, 1972
Grover Cleveland Davis, 87, died in North Runnels Hospital at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday of last week, following an illness of three weeks. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Grantz, pastor and the Rev. J. S. Tierce, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Spill Funeral Home.
Grover Cleveland Davis was born near Cameron in Milam County, February 16, 1885, son of William Sampson and Frances Jane Riddle Davis. He came to Runnels County in 1902 and worked for a year for W. H. Rodgers. In 1903 his parents and brothers and sisters came to Runnels County and settled on a farm two and a half miles east of Winters. He married Ida Maude Renick at Winters, July 20, 1913. They continued living east of Winters until 1948 when they moved to Winters. While farming he also was associated for a number of years with the Runnels County Gin Co., the Kornegay Gin Co. and the Carlisle Gin Co. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife; two sons, LaDell Davis of Winters and Terrell (Bill) Davis of Dallas; one brother, Pete Davis of Winters, two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Forgey of Ballinger and Mrs. Clara McAdams of Winters; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Frank Antilley, J. D. Vinson, Truitt Billups, Vivian Colburn, Sam Jones, Ralph Burns, Bill Mayo and Ernest Smith
