Mrs. Clifton Davis, 74, died at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday of last week in North Runnels Hospital, following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Crooks, pastor and the Rev. Richard Chaffin, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Anna, officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Spill Funeral Home.
She was born Lettie Alma Cottrell February 24, 1901, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. In 1907 the family moved to Taylor County settling in Tuscola. Mrs. Davis attended school in Abilene and graduated from A & I College in Kingsville. She taught school for 23 years. She later moved to Runnels County and was married to Clifton Davis, August 17, 1940 at Winters. Following her marriage she taught school in the Dale Community east of Winters for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Davis died February 28, 1968.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Skinner of Austin and Mrs. Venita Worthington of Fresno, California and a daughter-in-law Mrs. Charlotte Davis of Winters; two sisters, Mrs. Irving Dean of Santa Anna and Mrs. Louis Weston of Fallbrook, California; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ernest Smith, Wilma C. Davis, LaDell Davis, R. Q. Marks, Dennis Poe and Bobby W. Bowen.
