FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. J. P. KNIGHT HELD HERE MONDAY - Funeral services for Mrs. James P. (Jim) Knight, 84, were held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Elliott, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in the Ballinger Cemetery, under the direction of Spill Funeral Home. Mrs. Knight died at the Morris Nursing Home in Roscoe Saturday morning following an illness of several months. She had been living at the home for the past four months.
Born Lela Caroline Nichols at Ad Hall Community in Milam County, November 4, 1877, daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. W. T. Nichols. She was married to James P. Knight in December of 1893. The family moved to Runnels County in 1902, settling on a farm near Ballinger. In 1916 they moved to a farm east of Winters where they lived until Mr. Knight's retirement in 1944, when they moved to Winters. She was a member of the First Methodist Church here. Mr. Knight had been living at the Morris Nursing Home in Roscoe for the past four years.
Survivors include her husband, five sons, Clifford of Fort Worth, Noel of Lubbock, W. T. of Tahoka, Raymond of Tempe, Arizona, and Gerald Knight of Amarillo; one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Marks of Winters, 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, a twin Mrs. Ludie Davis and Mrs. Manchie Davis, both of Winters. Grandsons were casket bearers.
