Lloyd Wilson Compton, 79, died at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Winters at 5:05 p.m. Saturday following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Thomas, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger under the direction of Winters Funeral Home. Mr. Compton was born in Caldwell County, June 1, 1899. His parents were Leonard and Clara Lyles Compton. The family came to Runnels County in the early 1900's settling near Ballinger on a farm. He later moved to the Wingate area where he farmed and was a ginner for over 25 years. He married Mary Alyce Davis, October 28, 1920 at Ballinger. He and his wife moved to Winters in 1955. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Winters Woodmen of the World lodge. Survivors include his wife; one son, Vernon Compton of Vernon; five daughters, Mrs. Harley Robinson of Lubbock, Mrs. A. J. Dean of Big Spring, Mrs. J. B. Dunnam of Kerrville, Mrs. Dennis Poe of Winters and Mrs. Jim Roberts of Toronto, Canada; a brother A. Bruce Compton of Conroe; a sister, Mrs. Bernard Batts of Ballinger; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Pallbearers were Bill Mayo, Ernest Smith, Hollis Dean, Jerry Willingham, Dick Holstead, Darrell Compton, Edwin Compton and Winfred Compton.
