Mary Alice Compton, 87, of Winters, died at 10:25 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 1988, at North Runnels Hospital. Born Mary Alice Davis on March 9, 1901 to Willis Jefferson and Ludie Nichols Davis in Milam County, she moved with her family to the Dale Community, Runnels County in 1910. She married Lloyd W. Compton October 28, 1920 in Ballinger. They moved to Wingate and farmed there for about 25 years returning to Winters in 1951. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Martha Sunday School Class. Her husband preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include one son, Vernon Lloyd Compton of Vernon; five daughters, Clara Alyce Robinson of Lubbock, Ludie Katherine Dean and Lila Marie Dunnam, both of Big Spring, Rhuenell Poe of Winters, and Genie Lou Roberts of Princeton, New Jersey; one brother, Jack Davis of Abilene; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services for Mary Alice Compton were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1988 at the First Baptist Church in Winters with the Rev. Cliff Poe and Dr. Jim Roberts officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, directed by Winters Funeral Home. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
