In a listing I found online for the book Robertson County, Texas Marriage Records, 1838-1875 it says that the surnames Dias and Dyess are in the index. Does anyone have a copy of this book? I am mainly looking for William Henry Dias/Dyess that married Mary Dossey but would like to see what other names are listed Thanks!

I am adding a link to the Texas Masonic Lodge. I have not requested info from them but apparently one can request a search for genealogical purposes. Don't know if this will help you, but thought I would share. http://www.grandlodgeoftexas.org/content/masonic-record-requ...

Yes Linda, I own a copy of Mr Bakers book and it told me a great deal about my Patrick's in Robertson county. The Judge is also mentioned as an early surveyor but not much about him personally. I really appreciate your looking for me and please keep me posted if you happen to find anything further. I wonder if the Franklin Masonic lodge has any history since it was named after William Wilson Patrick. I have never found reference about Henry Reed being a Mason, but assume that he was since many of the Texans that fought at San Jacinto were. Many thanks for your assistance, I really appreciate it.
He is buried 6 miles east of Calvert on what was his Mexican land grant. Please check for his daughter Mary Jane, who married William Wilson Patrick as well. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer. I would love to find the Judges picture, because I have never seen one if one even exists.

I've never heard of a Calvert newspaper but that doesn't mean there wasn't one at some point. Calvert has never been a large town. Franklin has had a weekly paper from time to time but I don't know of a repository for their archives if they exist. The Hearne Democrat is your best bet for news in Robertson County. Hearne has never been the county seat but it is the largest town by far.

The Bryan library also has a lot of records for Robertson County.

Good luck.

Mary Ann Downing & George W Jones + Jinsey & Jess 1860

Does anyone know what became of Mary Ann Jones and Jinsey Downing, shown together with Mary's family in the 1860 Census of Robertson County, Texas?

A Mary Ann Downing born c. 1813 married a George W Jones in Talladega County, Alabama in 1836. Mary had a sister named Jinsey Downing born c. 1815 (also spelled Jincey, Jincy, sometimes with a G, and sometimes read as Jinny or Jenny).

As you can imagine, tracing George and Mary Jones has been difficult.

The 1850 Census show a Mary and George Jones in Rusk County, Texas with children Charlotte, Catherine, Charity Ann, Felix, Sarah, Milissa, and Daniel. The ages for this couple fit the known info for the Talladega, Alabama couple.

But the 1860 Census really led me the believe this was the right couple. The 1860 Census shows them in Robertson County, Texas, with children Charity, Felix, [looks like Dewy or Denny-- but where's Sarah?], Melissa, Daniel, and Dorinda PLUS Jinsy Downing and her probable son, Jess B Downing. [I am assuming that IF this is the right family, this child was illegitimate.]

The age of 44 (b 1816) and born in Alabama match up with the few known facts about Jinsey Downing. IF this is her, it is the first trace of her I've found outside family records. I had assumed until now that she had died as a child.

It seems George W Jones died in 1863 (but I cannot varify that), and his estate was settled in Robertson County on 15 Oct 1863, with his widow, Mary A Jones, signing the document.

After that date, both ladies disappear. A Charity Ann Jones married Peter Van Cleave in Robertson County. She died in Coryell County, Texas. A Jesse B Downing married Mary Jane Campbell in Coryell County, Texas in 1873, and I am wondering if this could be Jinsey's son.

Lots of IFs. BTW, "my" Mary Downing and Jinsey Downing were the daughters of James Downing and Mary Meharg of South Carolina who went first to Tennessee and then Alabama. Mary Meharg died before 1820, but James Downing is listed on the 1820 Census for St Clair County, Alabama.

Any help in finding out what became of these two ladies would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Anna

DYK? She had a twin sister? You'll have problems finding her as surname "Curley". Search surname "Curby",instead. Minnie Dorrine Curby (10 Mar 1917 - 7 Jun 2009) was born in Victoria and died in Franklin. Her husband was Oliver Reisner Curby (19 Jan 1911 - 30 Oct 1993). Their children: Harold Ray, Barbara Rowena, and Roy M. Oliver and Harold preceeded her in death. Should you desire research of the family, begin 1940 Karnes-Other Places-(128-5)-Image 5 and look for Oliver R. Curby age 29. From there you can reverse directions to Minnie's parents: Burns Marion Cleveland and Nellie Mann. Siblings Harold Ray and Barbara Rowena Curby listed as parents on Texas' Birth Index. Barbara's husband: Lee Scott Hurley. I'm not related!

Courtesy response, I'm not related! Easy answer on Clinton James Hall's parents, James A. Hall and Ada McDonald. Online death certificate viewable/printable https://familysearch.org/ Clinton James Hall (10 Jan 1907 - 7 May 1973) died in Bell but was a resident of Robertson County. S. A. Hall wed Jane Quick 18 Nov 1883. Therefore, Jane was not James A.'s mom. S. A. Hall wed Betty Pope/Polk, 16 Sep 1877 however Sam's wife in 1880 identified as Lydia? James A. Hall died prior to 1920 so it's difficult to determine his mother. James wed Mary Merchant, 20 Nov 1898, and they had Morris Townsend Hall (22 Apr 1900 - 1 Dec 1970). Ada McDonald came next and they had Clinton James and Henry. Ada (nee: McDonald) Hall wed Lee Eaton, 7 Feb 1922. She then wed William W. Smitherman, 14 Jul 1927. To find descendants of Sam Hall/Mary Jane Quick, recommend you begin with death certificates of children. There are several at https://familysearch.org/ Simply logon and setup a "free" user account if you haven't already. From the homepage, click highlighted "Death" then enter Texas in "Death Place" box. Click highlighted "Parents" then enter surnames, ONLY, of father/mother. Click "Search" then open death certificate by clicking on name. Holler back if more assistance required?

Thank you for the lead. The Edwards step-siblings are why I'm interested in this line. Their parents, Harvey Edwards and Callie Evans, are something of a family mystery. They moved out to Texas sometime after their daughter Eygine (?) was born and do not appear in the 1900 census (that I have found). Harvey must have died between 1900-1908, because on the 1910 census Callie has been married to Tom Green for two years. I have tracked down a few of their children hoping I could get some information that way, but no such luck. Now I've come back to trying to track down Callie herself. I know she's somewhere!

You're gonna have fun with this and I'm not even related! Start with findagrave lookup for Jessie Thomas Green, Sr. in Hill of Rest Cemetery (Baytown, Harris County). Lots of good info posted on his bio. Then start tracing his older brother Joseph B. Greene (16 Jan 1868 - 7 Feb 1932)-note surname spelling. Toss in his youngest halfbrother Harvie Thomas Green (18 Jun 1909 - 10 Dec 1954) and that should occupy you for a few hours. Later, lookup his mom Nancy Jeanette West (20 Jan 1848 - 15 Jun 1930). Sorry, haven't learned her maiden yet! OBTW! The Green/Greene, except Joseph B., settled in the Baytown-area. Their Edwards stepsiblings relocated to Grayson County and Oklahoma.

Isaac James Blackmon was my GGGrandfather. He is not buried in Robertson County. The family nmoved to Franklin County near Trent. He died July 4, 1907 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Trent (at least it is unmarked now). His name is engraved on a veteran's monument in the Trent Cemetery. The family later moved back to Robertson County. His wife, Martha Emmaline Honea Blackmon is buried in the Bald Pararie Cemetery and has a headstone naming her as the wife of I.J. Blackmon.

Near Antlers - Darwin Cemetery. That's what I meant (I guess I need to be more precise).

My wife is his Great-grand-daughter, descended from GW thru his daughter Myrtle Lou. I would be interested in anything you might provide me regarding his family and ancestry.

Thanks,
Norm
