Dear Cass,
I have so many questions. I am really excited to know some of the Gary info. I did not know very much and am very excited about learning more.
My Griffin's came to La. from I believe Tenn. At least that is where Dr.Newton C. Griffin had on all census and other paperwork. (Sarah Gary his wife has her birth listed as Ala)
N.C.Griffin's parents were:Isaac Wilson Griffin and Elizabeth H.H. They are buried in Dallas Co.,Tx. He had a brother Jacobs Josephus marr Louisa Warren in Dallas Co. and sisters 1) Mary E. b.Tnn. marr John Rowe of and in Dallas Co.; 2) Martha b.unknown, who marr a ____Jones. She died very young leaving 1 child a girl, Alice b. La. 3) Melissa Texana b.Tx. marr Vincent Pace of Dallas Co. and she too died young not long after giving birth to twin sons, named for their fathers fathers, Nicholas Pleasant Pace and Thomas Wilson Pace; 4) Unice b.Tx. marr Newton Golden of Dallas Co. 5) Andrew Jackson Viola marr 3 time #1. John B. Ballard #2. Napoleon Bates #3 James Berry all in Dallas Co. Yes this was a female, what a name! She had one child with N.Bates a girl Jesse Ann Bell Bates in 1876.
I hope this can help determine if your husbands Griffin's are any kin to mine.
As for the Gary's, I have bits and pieces that I have been trying to put together for you. I can see why we had that Rebecca marr Arthur Milton Gary because of the initials. Do you think that both were named Milton for their middle names? Who were the rest of Sarah, Rebecca, and Caroline's siblings? If you know of any. I have nothing on any Evans. They had a sister Caroline that married Alex Story. I would like to learn more and I would love to give you Sarah's family info. From Dr.Griffin and Sarah there are almost 1,000 descendants! I will be out of town all weekend.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Melissa Griffin Jacobs
