I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Real County , Texas as his home of record.

Soldier: TEDDY CLIFTON MARSH
Born: June 11, 1932. Caucasian
Date of loss: November 28, 1950. KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 137 families in Texas that have not been located. There is one family from Real County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

My grandmother was the granddaughter of Mary Polly Potter Jennings. I have photos of Mary P. and her husband, Jesse W. Jennings. I just moved to San Angelo recently and accidently found alot of info on A.J. Potter (fighting parson) in the archives here at A.S.U. His wife is buried here also as are some of his children. Fairmount Cemetery, located on Ave.N, here in San Angelo, Texas. His sons and daughter are buried here in the surrounding areas also. I would like to have a copy of your family tree and will be sharing mine with you, but will warn you, it is extensive. I have been doing genealogy for 25 years or more. Do you know anything about the Sharp family? Mary P. Potter's granddaughter is a Sharp.

We are told that Mary Jane remarried several times, one to a John Smith and the other the David Matthews.

Any information on Evander Needham Marsh and his family

Evander left East Texas Polk County before the 1880 census. He lived and farmed in Leaky, Real Co, TX for 20 years before returning to Polk County TX. He is said to have started another family in Leaky after his wife, Elizabeth Mills Marsh died between 1878 and 1880.

I too have the book Wagon's Ho! A History Of Real County.What a great resource! My ancestor is William Franklin Tatum, son of Aaron Jasper Tatum and Dora Alice Edwards.He was born in 1885.He is listed on page 681 as the third child born to Aaron and Dora.
My problem is this, I have no written documentation of his wife, even though he has 2 sons listed in the paragraph.I have heard thru family stories that her name was Alla Moore, but have been unable to find anything .Does someone know who has the notes and information used to write this part? I have sadly learned that Evelyn Tatum has passed away and have no idea who to ask now.

I am married to James Edward Naylor, descendent of Eliza Jane CHOWNING, from her son Benjamin Naylor. I cannot find any information on her ancestors. I am searching for information on a Mr. Snow McINTOSH who apparently lived in the Leakey area of Real County in the early to mid 20th Century. He would have been the son of Joseph Erwin McINTOSH (b. 18 Nov 1830)and Mary Jane SNOW (b. 1835) who came to Uvelde County from Clarendon County, SC shortly after they married on 19 Dec 1855. In addition to Snow McINTOSH, Joseph Erwin and Mary Jane were parents of William McINTOSH, Lelia McINTOSH, Sallie McINTOSH, and Annie McINTOSH.

Joseph Erwin McINTOSH was the son of William McINTOSH (1764-1843) and his third wife Elizabeth HARRINGTON of Clarendon County, SC. Any information on the descendants of Joseph Erwin McINTOSH in Texas or elsewhere greatly appreciated.

His father, Thomas Walter Woodward and his mother, Roxie Ann Withers (maiden name) lived in Barksdale at the time of his birth. There was an older brother, Albert, born on August 23, 1903, but I don't know where. Roxie died after my father was born (I don't know where or when) and my grandfather and the two boys moved to California. I have no living relatives that I know of and am trying everything to gather some information.

Southdown Country

My gg grandfather left behind a memoir which I am
in the process of editing with the intent to publish.
It relates an interesting story of his experiences on
two different trail drives, one in 1871 and the other
in 1878.

He spoke of time he spent working on ranches,
particularly the NOX by Rio Frio and the Woodward and
Oge in Frio County. He refers to this area as being
the "Southdown." He also speaks of his headquarters
as being at Rio Frio, which for some reason he says
was in "Spring County." The NOX and Rio Frio are
located in REAL COUNTY, which, as best I can
determine, was part of Bandera County in the 1870's.

I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on the
term Southdown, and let me know why he would have
referred to Rio Frio being in Spring County.

One theory is that he meant Spring Country, if
there is such a term. Or, pardon my ignorance of the
Spanish language, perhaps Spring is some English
variation of Bandera or Real.

I welcome any thoughts or input on any of the above.

Jameson he may have been doctor and drowned crossing creek to help deliver a baby. not sure of the year 1875 as John was about about ten we are told. John's mother then married J. M. I discovered there have been more than a few Vance's in TX but wanted to know why the town of Bullhead had been changed to "Vance". We are looking for the grave of HENRY KITE, a confederate veteran who was elderly, ill and last seen by his family in the fall of 1909 leaving Milam co. We know there were familys linked to him living in REAL cO. at that time.
