Iam looking for information on Celia Alice Henderson. All I know is she was married to my ggrandfather, Henry Hugh Henderson. She is my grandfathers stepmother. Henry died in Nolan Co., Tx. In his obit it says she died in Amarillo, Tx., but I dont know what county. So it could be in Potter Co. also. She had 3 sons from her first marriage married to Frank Kuykendall. Then she had 2 more children by Henry. An OBIT would help to strighting out some family roots.

YIUNGER died of a heart attack while on duty in Leon county. He was buried in Canyon, Randall County. I am searching for his place of burial and any surviving family members. LITTLEFIELD - Dale Wesley McGaugh, 89, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Nov.
23, 1999.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in
Littlefield with the Rev. Nathan Mulder, minister of Flomot Baptist
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park.

Mr. McGaugh was born in Chester, Ark. He was a farmer and a welder and
a member of First United Methodist Church in Littlefield.

He married Lavois Fitzgerald and was preceded in death by a son,
Michael Dale McGaugh, in 1967.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Serrurier of Amarillo;
two sisters, Norma Jean Bell of Oxnard, Calif., and Mable Edwards of
Richmond, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to Salvation Army or the First United
Methodist Church in Littlefield.

POW/MIA Korean War, Randall Co. JOBE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Randall
County, Texas as his home of record.

Soldier: LEWIS EARL JOBE
Born: Jan. 23, 1930. Caucasian
Date of loss: July 8, 1953. KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 137 families in Texas that have not been located. There is one family from Randall County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Not related to the Griffin's. The 1880 US Census is on the LDS website, free link.

Francis Marion Griffin born 1875 TN, probably Cocke county, was son of William M Griffin born abt 1845-1847 TN and a Jane born abt 1845 TN.

Francis was 2nd known child of Wm and Jane with older sister named Florence born about 1874, William M abt 1879, Rome George abt 1884, Isaac, 1886 and sister Lockie 1888. Jane's other name may have been Mary but unknown as to her maiden name. She died before 1900 and after appx 1888 when Lockie was born.

William M remarried after June 1900 to a Mollie from Kentucky and had 6 more children in by 1910.

Ancestry.com does not have Cocke county marriages online.

Cocke County is located in East Tennessee, one of the state’s three “Grand Divisions.” Cocke County was formed in 1797 from part of Jefferson County. It is bordered by the following counties: Greene, Hamblen, Jefferson, Sevier, and Haywood Co., NC & Madison Co., NC. Newport is the county seat.

Marriage records start in 1877 for this county on microfilm.

I think Mollie had also been married before as there was Bertha in the Griffin household in 1910 listed as Griffin born about 1898. Mollie's statement to the enumerator was this was her first marriage and was the mother of 6 children with Bertha being the oldest child.

William, Mollie and their children wound up in Carmel, Jackson county OK where they were enumerated through the 1930 census. Francis Marion and Sarah "Sallie" Ann were in Donley county in the 1930 census but had been in Carmel, Jackson county OK prior to this. I would presume William and Mollie died in Jackson county. Ancestry.com has no Oklahoma records to offer.

I was not able to find F M and Sallie in the 1900 census but William Lee Griffin indicated on his WW I Draft registration card that he was born in Collin county in 1896.

"WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY. West Texas A&M University, originally called West Texas State Normal College, was established by the Thirty-first Legislature and opened in Canyon in the fall of 1910. One of the seven state supported teachers' colleges of Texas, it was coeducational and offered one year above and two years below the present college level of courses. Robert B. Cousins, president from 1910 to 1918, was followed in office by Joseph A. Hill. In 1914 the administration building burned, but the college carried on its work in temporary buildings until a new one was completed. In 1919 the first four-year college degrees were granted. The college was admitted to the American Association of Teachers Colleges in 1922, to the Association of Texas Colleges in 1923, and to the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1925. In 1923 it became West Texas State Teachers College. In 1932 it was the first institution of higher learning in West Texas to offer graduate training. In 1932-33 the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society built its museum, Pioneer Hall, on the campus. In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Allen Early gave to the college a building in Amarillo, and the Amarillo Center of the college began to offer adult education classes there. Annual enrollment for the college averaged 1,000, and in 1949 it became West Texas State College.

Enrollment climbed from 1,913 students in 1950 to 4,500 in 1964. The school received authorization from the Texas legislature in 1963 to reorganize and to change its name to West Texas State University, recognizing the school's expanded scope and purpose. Administrative reorganization included the college of arts and sciences with three divisions (humanities, social sciences, and science); the school of business; the school of teacher education; and the graduate school. At this time a marked expansion began on the physical plant, curriculum and program development, enrollment, and faculty, along with an increased emphasis on research. Construction of the Kilgore Research Center's first unit signaled the emergence of the university as a research focal point. The center housed an electronic computer system, laboratories, rooms for low-temperature physics research, and a library, in addition to offices for twenty researchers. Cooperative research agreements were made with several agencies, including the National Science Foundation. In the 1990s the Kilgore Research Center housed the Alternative Energy Institute, which studied alternative energy sources. Of the major buildings on campus, twenty were constructed or greatly modified during the 1950-65 period. Other additions included an applied science building to house the agricultural and industrial education departments, a $350,000 enlargement of the library (which contained 146,108 volumes in 1969), a $700,000 expansion of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, an administration building, and a building for the school of business.

On September 1, 1990, West Texas State University joined the Texas A&M University System, and on September 25, 1992, the board of regents changed the school's name to West Texas A&M University. At that time the student body numbered 6,000, and class size averaged twenty-three students. Undergraduates, who composed 80 percent of the student population, could choose among fifty fields of study, and forty-four graduate programs were offered. The university was the major institution of higher learning in the Panhandleqv region of Texas and also drew students from neighboring states. There were four colleges and one school: Agriculture, Nursing and Natural Sciences; Education and Social Sciences; T. Boone Pickens College of Business; Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities; and the Graduate School. West Texas A&M was on a 135-acre main campus and had access to 294 additional acres for expansion purposes. The college occupied part of the T Anchor Ranch, and the old ranch headquarters has been preserved for historical interest. The university had a 186-acre farm, and its Nance Ranch was 2,400 acres. The school also ran a University Horse Center and a dairy. In all the campus had forty-two buildings. The Old Main Building, constructed in 1910, was renovated in 1988 and was the oldest building on campus. The school conferred twenty degrees and had 208 members of the faculty. It has had nine presidents throughout its history: Robert B. Cousins (1910-18), Joseph A. Hill (1918-48), James P. Cornetteqv (1948-72), Lloyd I. Watkins (1972-77), Max Sherman (1977-82), Gail Shannon (1982-84), Ed D. Roach (1984-90), Barry B. Thompson (1991-94), and Russell C. Long (1994-). In 2000 the university offered fifty-four undergraduate and thirty graduate degree programs. Enrollment in the fall of that year was 6,775, including 5,561 undergraduates, and the faculty numbered about 270.

I'd like to get more information on these and other Griffins in the area. They once lived in Denton County. Charlie and Francis were brothers, both born in Tennessee. I am looking for any info on the Morgan Family. It says they lived in Amarillo, but in Randall County. It seems they worked in Amarillo.
Robert S. Morgan born in 1884. No known Death Date
wife : Alma Morgan, died in Amarillo in 1977
Ura, brother of Robert, died in 1963 and buried in Amarillo.
Two more brothers, James B and William.
Robert and Alma had a son in Amarillo in the 1930 Census, named John A. Morgan, born avt 1913-14.

I am tracing a line of my Morgan Family of Cannon County, TN.
Jackson M. Morgan, died in AR.
John Stephen Morgan, died in TN
Joseph D. Morgan 1900 Red River County, TX 1900
Joseph had four sons. By 1930, all lived in or around Amarillo.

1.Robert S. Morgan, died 1941, wife was Alam. She died in 1977
They had sons, Alvin b. 1910, John R. Morgan, b. 1914
Robert ran a Machinist Repair Shop
2. James B. Morgan. Went by Jim B. Morgan
3. Ura D. Morgan
4. Willie or William Morgan
By 1930, the last three sons were single. Could have married later.
Would like to know anything about this Family or living members. I can connect this Family to my Cannon County Morgans.

Azle O'Neal Harding died Sept 1987, last residence was Amarillo. Trying to find out more information on my brother in law's family and where she is buried. Was married to Willard Jefferson Harding at some point, lived in Ellis County Texas. She had two sons Remer Laverne and Willard Jack Harding. Remer killed in the war (1950) and I believe his brother Jack became a dentist in the Amarillo area. Any hints would help as we are at a brick wall. Thanks, Donna

This is interesting. My great grandparents Joseph Emery and Esther Harrison moved to the Canyon area from Illinois in about 1909. Joseph's mother Susan Emery was buried at Dreamland. They moved to Deming, NM in 1911-12.

What time period are we talking about with Emery Harrison Nunley? I'm wondering if there might be some namesake thing going on here. I have the Emery's and Harrison's pretty well documented during this time and there are no Nunley's. However, sometime in this period they picked up an adopted son named Ted.
