how to find info on Hugh Oleson died July 1978 in Amarilla

I am looking for a Hugh Oleson who died in Amarilla in 1978. I not sure if this is the right person. The Hugh I am looking for was born Aug 25 1926 in Adams County Wi. Parents are John and Jennie Oleson. I do not want to buy a death cert. if this is not the right person. There is a Hugh Oleson buried in Liano Cemetery. Any help or direction would be helpful.

Jewel Alene Taylor Partain was born on 30 July 1917, in Leedey, Dewey Co. OK. She died on 19 Dec. 2002, in Amarillo, Potter Co. TX., and is buried in Citizens Cemetery, Clarendon, Donley Co. TX.

I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me with a scanned copy or transcript of her obituary.

I am a Taylor Family genealogist, and Jewel was one of my Taylor kin. I am in hopes that her obituary will allow me to identify her children.

The following quote is from an obituary for Luiella OWENS SAMMONS of Shamrock, Texas.. I am interseted in finding out about her parents,whom I believe were a T. T. OWENS and Nancy SESSUMS. No other information is available. Two of her daughters, Mrs. Violet Proter and Mrs Peggy Carr live/lived in either Potter or Randall county.

The former Miss Luiella OWENS was born November 14, 1884, in Freestone County, and was married to Will SAMMONS in Oklahoma in 1906. They moved to Lela Community in 1909, later returned to Oklahoma for a short time, and came back to Wheeler County in 1915. Mr. Sammons died October 13, 1941, and in recent months, Mrs. SAMMONS had made her home at Golden Spread Nursing Home in Shamrock.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors are: a daughter, Mrs. Violet PORTER of 138 North Goliad, Amarillo; a son C. H. SAMMONS of Twitty; three grandchildren Mrs. Gary BEDNOZ of Twitty, Mrs Peggy CARR of Amarillo, and Mrs Pat ELY of El Campo; four great grandchildren, Conrad and Amille CARR of Amarillo, and
John and Ellen ELY of El Campo. Also surviving are: three sisters, Mrs Anna SIMS of Paducah, Mrs. W. B. HOGG of Dallas, and Mrs Lem WAGGONER of Pampa; and two brothers, T. F.
OWENS of Tishomingo, Okla., and Charles OWENS of Odessa.

wife : Alma Morgan, died in Amarillo in 1977
Ura, brother of Robert, died in 1963 and buried in Amarillo.
Two more brothers, James B and William.
Robert and Alma had a son in Amarillo in the 1930 Census, named John A. Morgan, born avt 1913-14.

There does not seem to be a volunteer for Potter County at the RAOGK site, or at the Potter County GenWeb site. So, I am hoping that some kind soul will perform a search for me.

Oldham, Alice Inez (Taylor) died 18 Jan 1933 in Amarillo.

Her daughter:
Oldham, Juanita died 10 Feb 1933.

I am hoping that there are at least snippets of these two deaths in the local newspaper sometime around those dates.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I do not require hard copies, but if copies the death notices (if found) is easier, I am happy to cover that cost. Otherwise, e-mailed transcriptions are fine.

Bost Family at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo Texas

Who was Ernest C. Bost 1884-May 31, 1978, or Jack Bost b. 1921, or Mary Ruth Bost, b. Dec 30, 1919-d.Feb 14, 1993.

My 3rd great grandmother was Percedia Gemima (Bolick)Bost who was buried at Llano Cemetery on March 19, 1908. She died while visiting a son in Amarillo. Her husband was Leander Sidney Bost. Both were born in Catawba Co. NC.
I cannot figure out how they relate to the Bosts that are buried at the cemetery, and would like to know more about family that moved there, and their story. Thanks.

I would appreciate any help with the Harrell Family living in Amarille, Potter, Texas in 1900 census. Head of the family was Wm. born 1852 in Texas his wife Jennie born Aug 1854 in California. I have traced their son James W to South Dakota and his family.

Their other children were Mary, Dick, Watts and W.E. Harrell.

The census tells me that Wm Harrell parents came from Arkansas.

My grandfather, Read N. WHITE (1899-1971), was born in Mingus, Palo Pinto County, Texas. His parents were Maxwell WHITE (b. ?, d. ?) and Alice HALL (1869-1943). Read had a brother, Doyle. Read ended up in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. He married Nancy Edna KELLUM 19 May, 1920 in Amarillo, and they had several children, including Wayne and Margaret Joyce. Initially, Read's mother Alice (later DAVENPORT) and brot her Doyle lived with him and Edna. Doyle later married Pearl and had a son, Doyle Jr.Later, they moved to El Paso.

Edna KELLUM moved to 300 N. Lincoln St., Amarillo, Potter County, Texas ca. 1916-1917 with her step-family, the SULLIVANS (including George, Nora, Irene, Lucille, Florence and others).

Also, I found a funeral announcement for a Joseph Conway WHITE in my grandmother's things, so I assume he's a relative, but don't know how.

Any help or connections would be greatly appreciated.

Fame Emily WISE, nee PATTY, born in Arkansas about 16 July 1891 (date estimated), daughter of Jeremiah Howard PATTY and Mary Frances PURSELLEY. It is believed she may have passed away about 1982 at Amarillo.
She was married to Elmer John WISE, and may have married a 2nd time to ?? DOVE (after Wise died in 1955). If she remarried after 1955, I need a marriage date & the name of her 2nd husband.

Elmer John WISE, son of Levi WISE & Margaret Jane MOORE, born about 12 August 1882 in Arkansas, married 7 Nov 1909 in Carroll county, Arkansas, died 2 May 1955 in Amarillo. Children of the marriage to Fame PATTY were known to be Eston, Marie, Rubylee, Donald, and Winfred.

Levi WISE, son of Nimrod WISE and Mary Jane GALLOWAY, b. 22 May 1860 Texas, d. 23 Sep 1923 Everett Washington. Married 1st to Margaret Jane Moore (1 child, Elmer John WISE), 2nd to Mollie Trantham (1 child, Goldie WISE).

Any information about siblings, parents, grandparents, other ancestry, and descendants for these people would be very much appreciated.

SANDERS in 1888 in Bosque Co, TX. They were parents
of Ellis, 1890-1924 and Pearl (my Grandmother), 1892-
1969, Waco, TX, Molly died within a month of Pearl's
birth and the children grew up with her parents Christopher
and Artie SANDERS in Bosque Co. My Dad said that
apparently Clinton Samuel LANCASTER was never seen
again. I just found him by way of the Vital Records Office
in Austin which says his death certificate shows him as a
widower cattle rancher. Wonder if he remarried and are
there any LANCASTER cousins out yonder???

Marjorie Mabel Weber, foster child of Horace & Claudia (Dobbs) GAITHER & son Paul G.

Joseph G. WEBER age 92 (Jan 2008) is looking for any info on the Horace and Claudia (DOBBS) GAITHER family of Amarillo, Potter Co, Texas, especially their son Paul G. Gaither. Joseph has been searching for his sister for 80 years. Social Security says that Marjorie is still alive and receiving SS but we do not know where she is. We are so close and urgently need your help.

Horace & Claudia Gaither were likely the foster parents for Joseph's sister Mabel Inez WEBER, born July 7, 1918 near Artesia or Roswell, NM, the daughter of Kenneth and Vera (SEAGRAVES) WEBER. The Gaither's renamed her Marjorie Mabel WEBER and Mrs H. L. Gaither signed a afidavit in 1940 attesting to the fact that she was going by the name Marjorie Mabel WEBER. That affidavit was sent from 822 Ship Street, St Joseph, Michigan. Other than census records in Texas and New Mexico that is the only address we can attach to Marjorie Mabel Weber.

Joseph (aka Virgil) and Marjorie Mabel (aka Mabel Inez) were separated when he was 4 and Mabel was 2 when he was placed by his mother Vera Weber in St Anthony orphanage for boys in Albuquerque, NM in 1920. Kenneth & Vera Weber apparently divorced and he was avoiding the draft. Joseph was reunited with his father in the 1940's but no trace of mother Vera has been found.

"Margie Gaither" is found on the 1930's census with Horace & Claudia Gaither and with Sallie DOBBS the mother-in-law of Horace. The 1920 Belen, Valencia Co, NM census shows Horis (Horace), Claude (Claudia) and sons Paul G. and Elwell D but there is no Margorie/Marjorie/Margie with them who would have been age 2 if she had been born to them.

As far as I know Horace & Claudia had only the two sons. Elwell Dobbs Gaither died 18 Feb 1927 in Potter Co, TX. Paul G. Gaither was born 31 Mar 1903 and died Nov 1972 in Amarillo, Potter Co, TX. He appears to have married near Amarillo Texas to a Pawnee WALKER. She appears to have had a daughter before she married Paul that was 8 years old in 1930 named Marguerite Walker. They lived next to a George H. and Hattie L. WALKER who may have been Pawnee WALKER's brother?

We desperately need to find a living family member of Paul G. Gaither of Amarillo, Texas that might know where Marjorie is. We also do not know where Horace and Claudia died. Did Marjorie stay with the Gaithers the rest of her life? Joseph wants only to see or speak to his long lost sister before he dies. Can you help?

Looking for Nancy Rhea Pogue (Boyd)?

I am looking for my 1st cousin who may have been married to a James (or Jim) H. Boyd in Potter County on Nov 27, 1994: Nancy R. Pogue (born Nov. 20, 1947 in Travis County) married a Jim H. Boyd in Potter county on that date.

I cannot locate any records of either of them since the marriage. I did find a death record on a James Boyd (died May 6, 1995) but according to the genealogy searches his middle name was Edwards (not an "H") so likely is not the right Boyd.

My cousin Nancy has not made contact with any family members since about 1994 (last name Densman at that time living in Hill County), but we found the marriage record of Nancy R. Pogue to Jim H. Boyd and am hoping to find some info in Potter County.

Obit, date of death, Margaret E. Mathews/Matthews

Trying to locate obit and/or date of death for my gr grandmother Margaret Elisabeth (Kehl) Mathews/Matthews who died in 1912 at about 36 years of age. She is buried at the Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Cass Co., IL.
Headstone gives only years of birth and death, no specific dates.
In 1910 census she and husband George M. Mathews and childred Leda (Letta), John, Nellie, and Charles are in Potter county Texas, Justice Precinct 2. On that census the last name is misspelled as Mathiews, and her first name is misspelled as Margurite.
Old photo of my grandmother as a girl has Amarillo, TX written on the back. I'm guessing the photo is from about 1910-1912.
In the 1900 census George & Margaret were in Greene Co., IL.
I do not know the date Margaret died, nor the location. She may have been in Texas at the time of her death. Have not been able to find anything about her death in Illinois so far.
Have one old photo of her grave right after burial. There were no leaves on the trees so I am guessing it was January, February, March, October, November, or December of 1912.
George died March 3, 1914 in Illinois and the little newspaper notice only mentions she died before him.
I'd so much appreciate any info anyone may have on Margaret Mathews/Matthews.

I have her obit, but unformately it didn't give any clues to find her father and grandfather. Any help is appreciated. i am looking for a half sister her first name was tammy and her mothers middle name(also the one she went by) was louise. louise's father was an evangilist or preacher in amarillo in the 60's at least im for sure. louise and tammy also lived on grand st. in amarillo at one time also. i know tammy was born in 1964 but her mother was not married. my father was named bobby joe anglin. louise married a military man sometime after 1964 but by 1969. i have found a tammy ginger smith born in potter co. in 1964 to a frances baldwin and cant seem to find anything further on either anyone with any info on any of this PLEASE HELP!!!

Jim J. Yarbrough, 61, a resident of Potter County for 41 years, died at his home in River Road, seven miles north of Amarillo, at 6:15 o’clock last night.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 o’clock this afternoon from Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. E. B. Fincher, pastor of the Ellwood Park Presbyterian Church of which Mr. Yarbrough was a member.

Mr. Yarbrough was a native of Texas, born in Fannin County, and had been a rancher and farmer all his life.

Survivors are his widow, Della; five sons, Ishmeal, Clancie, J.J., J.P., and Noyal (Note: this is his son, Noel), all of Amarillo; three daughters, Mrs. V. I am doing research on the Ash family that spent some time in the 1930s - 1950s in Potter County - probably Monument area. David Eugene Ash spent time in prison. I found mention online of a newspaper clipping from the Amarillo Globe dated 12 Sep 1949 where David was arrested. It stated that he had a long criminal record and that he had 2 brothers with criminal records and 2 sisters that had been sentenced in Kansas for narcotics charges in 1949. I would like to learn more about this family. Family legend has connected them with several of the famous gangs of the early 30s.

4. Willie or William Morgan
By 1930, the last three sons were single. Could have married later.

I have a poor quality 1940 ED map of the city and the boundary ED descriptions for 1940, but need a 1940 base map. The only map I have in my collection is a 1927 one (used for the Morse One Step website 1930 Amarillo database)...and the city grew quite a bit by 1940.

Alva Harold Liston - WWII papers

I have in possession a few misc. documents sent to "Mrs. Alva Liston" by the War Department in 1945. She was residing at 716 N. Arthur Street, Amarillo, Texas. Her husband was awarded posthumously the purple heart. Harold, as he apparently went by, was a pilot "attached to the Chinese American Composite Wing." Apparently his remains were never recovered. A few members of my Wyat line lived in Amarillo at this time but I don't believe there is a connection. I would be willing to pass them to someone who can prove they are Liston related. Not sure how these ever came to be in the family papers.

A train, Ft Worth-Denver City, derailed on a bridge just outside of Amarillo, Oct 2, 1906. One man was buried 25 ft in quicksand with horses & crates of fruit over him. Another man was killed that I believe was my grandfather, Henry Clark. All the funeral home had was his body was shipped but not where to. My grandfather was buried Oct 4 in Smith Co., Omen or Arp. My mother only said he died but never how. Is there any other information on that accident. Would a Court record of the County paying for the shipping be possible and where would it be found.

Mattie's husband Burlie/Burley Durwood Brown b. 1887 died in Potter Co on Nov. 15, 1971.

Hello, Does anyone have access to Potter County marriage records circe 1938 or happen to spend time researching records at the county courthouse? If so, I would be most appreciative of lookup. I have not found a lookup volunteer through the regular channels, so maybe these records are not really accessible--but thought I would check here. The record I seek is for Pauline May Rockett and Claude Houston, married 15 February 1938 (according to the Family Bible). I was told by an elderly aunt that the marriage took place in Corpus Christi, but two separate searches of those records have turned up nothing. The Rockett family was living in Amarillo at the time, so the next most logical place for the marriage is Potter County. -- Thanks much.
