Hello I am searching for information on Benjamin Lane born in TN, grew up in KY and moved to Amarillo just before 1900.
Born 1850 and married to Mildred Graham

My notes show Benjamin had a son named Clifford. I just
saw a directory of 1920 Amarillo online - where it lists
a Clifford J. Lane. The directory seemed to describe him
as a clerk at a department store. Also there was an Ice Cream
store which listed a C J Lane as the owner. Might this
be a link?

Anyone have access to census in Amarillo in 1890, or 1900 that
would show Benjamin with Clifford? I have not been able to
locate Benjamin in the 1880 which is online.

Well I found a 1900 Amarillo Census online but it only
listed 1 Lane family. It was not the correct one.
Surely, the CJ Lane that ran the Ice cream shop
would have been there by 1910?

Clifford Johnston Lane is my great-grandfather. Yes, Benjamin Lane was his father. I don't know anything about Clifford Lane working in a department store, but yes the family did start an ice cream company in the early part of the last century. It was in business until the late 60's...not a shop, rather a maker of ice cream that was sold via push carts and in food stores.
