HARLINGEN, TEX. Oct. 3-
Funeral services were held here this week for Mrs. Edward Dishman Madeley, who was not only a Valley pioneer, but was a descendant of the first American child born in Texas.

She was a descendant of Helena Dill Dishman, born September 8, 1804, in the pioneer village of Nacogdoches.

Mrs. Madeley came to the Valley before the railroad, in 1904, and only a few years following her brother, James Dishman, who was the founder of Combes and one of the best known of early pioneers in this section.

The woman was 73 years of age when she died in a Temple hospital following an operation. The body was forwarded here, and services were conducted from the Christian Church, with the Rev. J.W. Hay in charge.

Pallbearers were C.E. Bowman, E.W. Anglin, E.J. Foster, F.G. Jackson, J.C. Elmore, and J.W. Wade.

Survivors include three sons, Neil Madeley, Harlingen city commissioner; Ewing Madeley of College Station, and Edwin Madeley of San Antonio, and her husband.
