I am on a wild goose chase searching for my Grandfathers parents. His name was Fred V Cooper and his fathers name was George F Cooper. Now this is where the problems start for me. I think his mothers name was Maggie or Margaret and I have reason to believe that her maiden name was Moore but I am not for sure. I don't know very much about the Cooper side of my family so if anyone could help in any way that would be great. My name is Freddy Shivers thanks

Hi,
I would love to see the back of the photo. I have a great interest in the genealogy of Moore County, as I am the coordinator of the USGenWeb Moore County site. I really would like to see much more information added to the site and the names of the people in the photograph will help me accomplish building genealogies for that class.

Thanks in advance,

Katy Hestand
Moore county Coordinator

I am looking for descendants of John H. and brother Willis H. Harris who died in Moore county in 1973 and 1994 resepectively. Both were sons of Abel K. and Allie Crowson Harris.

Abel K. Harris was born in 1858 in Perry Co., Alabama, the son of Robert Oliver Harris and Talitha Caroline Richardson. The Abel Harris family lived in Texas and later Oklahoma by 1920.

I am trying to trace the origins of this Harris family which originated in South Carolina in the early 1800's and lived in Perry County, Alabama before the Civil War.

Any person having knowledge of the Harris family in Moore county is requested to respond to the query.

I have a picture of the graduating class of Dumas High School - 1948 that was in my father's things. It is posted at http://trees.ancestry.com/f2/file15/objects/8/9/6/f896cea1-1... and attached (if it works) if anyone wants to see it. I have the back of the card scanned in - it is covered in signatures if anybody would like to see it. I also have what may be a prom court and a group shot of a choir but I am not sure if they belong to Dumas or not.

My father was Prentice D. Jefferies and he was raised and always claimed Paris as his hometown. It was a suprise to me to find this picture and his diploma - I'd love to hear from anyone that might know how he ended up there.

Arthur A. Willis Jr. born Jan 17, 1930 in Blizzard of1930

arturo_bj@hotmail.com, Parents Rachel and Arthur Adrian Willis
Dr. Registered birth first in "walk in book' in Stinnet, Hutchinson Co, Belle plains, later a line was drawn thru entry and notaiton, see moore Co., Trip to Dumas and check of walk in book said I was born in Stinnett. Tx. So Moore Co says I was born in county seat of Hutchinson Co. I have that birth certificate.

Belle Plains was I think located where a natural gas pumping station is located and the remains of settlement are fenced in and deserted. My dad was stripping oil wells there and we came to California about a year later. If this helps great. History of BP follows

Belle Plain was east of Dumas in eastern Moore County. The site was settled in 1927, when certain of the lawless element, who had been driven out of Borger by the Texas Rangers, fled Hutchinson County and set up shop just across the county line. The development consisted mostly of crude, hastily built shacks and quickly became a booming, bawdy settlement that specialized in bootleg beer and whiskey, gambling dens, and brothels.

Almost as quickly as it had grown, the town shrank, as its temporary residents moved away to escape the law again. By 1929 only the school, a store, and a filling station remained. The post office was closed and mail routed to Stinnett in 1930. Many buildings were either torn down or allowed to fall apart, while others were moved to Altman (now Sunray). By the time prohibition was repealed in 1933
I'm related to one of his brothers, Samual Lewis Moore. I have heard stories about Andrew Jackson Moore, but can't find anything on the man. He is listed as a brother, and you have the same information as me. I wish I had the name of his ship, that would help. His other brother was Colonel Walter Moore of the 2nd Fla. Infantry during the war between the states. He has lots of history.

Gary

Linda,

Don't get too excited too soon! I have not yet documented that the maiden name of Elizabeth was MOORE and I have not yet documented that she was an Indian or even the wife of Richard THOMPSON.

I received an email from Ken who says he lives in Lawrence County and that he has never found anything that proves either the Moore name or the Indian theory. So, it is still an uphill battle to find the truth but I will work on it.

Hopefully, there are others who are actually searching for documentation and not just taking the word of those who have not really done any research and that they will share with us.

Ann

The Brown's adopted my grandfather in 1915 from the children's home in Ft Worth. I think that Mr Brown may have died Oct 1 1937. I can't verify that he is the same person without ordering the actual death certificate. Children's name's were Cornelia Florence b 1890, Alfred b 1898 and Albert O b 1895.
