Horse-Thief Captured - Gause, Apr. 5 - T. J. Carleton, deputy sheriff of Milam county, in company with a posse of men, went about 2-miles south of this place at 2 p.m. to arrest on Stark Reynolds for theft of a horse stolen in Tarrant county. On arrival at Reynolds’ stopping place he was surprised by the party, but attempted to escape, with pistol in hand, defying the authorities; but being closely pursued he attempted to shoot, but was shot down by the posse. He was then brought to this place and put in Fedell’s old storehouse. He is suffering intense pain; his wounds, numbering about 20, are not thought dangerous. After he fell, he swore vengeance against the sheriff and posse. His brother, Jasper Reynolds, attempted to take him from the sheriff, but failed in doing so.
